For me, Patti is the greatest of all. She has something (speaking only for myself) that Whitney never had which was the emotion and passion in singing on stage. Whitney was powerful but I never felt that passion and beacon being set off in her music on stage. Patti wins for me!

This might be my favorite Patti Labelle performance. She's showing depth with those low notes in the beginning. She started low then her voice skyrocketed from the middle til the end. Impressive!
it was release on patti's live album in 1992 in which she dedicated wind beneath my wings to her sister jackie! ( who can forget bout her walking away from the mic yelling out for her sister jackie, "can't nobody love me like you do jackie!")

as much as I respect the talent of your Beyonces and Rihannas and Fantasias....they could all take notes from this legendary entertainer. Patti has always had a fortitude and will, that is just hard to come by. I saw her for the 2nd time, many, many yrs ago on her "The Spirit's In It" tour...she came to DC for two nights, but that Friday night, 96.3 WHUR, which had been promoting her appearance at Constitution Hall, announced on their station, early that day, that it was doubtful that she'd make the first show because she had a strep throat...well, I had had strep throat before and it took longer than a damn day to get over..and two days after I had it, I got the flu..
but that night, about 6 pm, it was announced that she would make the 8pm show. So, we went...me, my Mom, her stepmother, her half sister and two family friends. And that show is the one that made it to a CD.."Live in Washington DC"....we were there, about a dozen rows back.....you can search the album on CZcams. And to listen to her you would never think, her throat was "broke". So, she's from that era of performers (many of whom are gone), that were not going to get left behind. If they could stand up on two feet, and hold the microphone in one hand, there was no way you were going to pull them off that stage. Thats just who she is...

@phillyTne it was released on this very concert in 1987 on VHS and Laser Disc but not CD, and then later a new version was recorded dedicated to her sister Jackie on her Album Patti Labelle Live! in 1992.
Hey Rick! Years have passed and I have had my own copy of the "Over The Rainbow" tour for some years now. I had the live version of the "Live" cd since it came out. Actually, that's what put me on the hunt for this version. Best to you!

This version is from 1984/85. At the time, her two older sisters Vivian (1975) and Barbara (1982) had passed. Jackie, her kid sis, was still living at the time. She would die roughly five years later.
