Never once have I related to Garnt so much that this, my family also runs a restaurant and I used to critique my dad all the time on his cooking and now this is reflected on when I go to restaurants.
can you even cook anything or are you like Garnt? I mean, with his food takes he shouldn't really criticize anything
Huh
Worked at a family owned, modern Italian joint in DC for some time a few years back. Got to know the Chef pretty well during that time and I’ve gotta say, that shit is NOT for the faint of heart. I saw this guy slowly lose his passion for cooking, I remember just days before I left that he kept saying he was going to switch careers to something more, “manager, back of the house” type of thing. Kept telling me how many birthdays, holidays, friendships/relationships he lost because he worked in that industry. It was so shitty because he was in his mid to late thirties, dude was never married too and I still remember all the other older managers saying, “he’s too old,” “it’s too late for him to make that change,” just everyday it seemed they were ragging on him behind his back.
Ahhh… anyway, this shit was random and. I don’t know why I posted it. Just a thing that came to my mind. I guess all in all, the restaurant industry can take everything from you man… shit.
Aww, I'm sure that Guy's in a more Comfortable Position now!
how sad
“they don’t want to cook, they want to work” bruh welcome to the real world
ngl that might not have been the best way to word that lol, especially when you consider that in many situations, such as the immigrants making their culture's food that meilyne trashed on, that's literally the only job that they can feasibly get in their situation.
when I was a waiter sometimes people would order meals that I knew the cooks didnt make well.
(different cooks make dishes different so each has thier worst)
I would tell them my concern and would ask what they wanted from the dish and recommend one based on that. Or I would recommened my personal favorites, if they still wanted it I would put it in for them. I always had people be relatively positive about this and sometimes It would give someone a new favorite.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined 😂😂😂
Imagine Garnt puts two pieces of bread on his mom’s face….
I'm not Thai and This is from Google Translate but, "คุณคืออะไร!?!"
@@TheDoctorFromArknights “คุณ” is the honorific/polite form for “you”. In this context, I would use “มึง”….
@@sh3n3ng if only I knew how to type that symbol....
I applaud Garnt for acting out for the consumer great work ethic as well
Garnt really is Gorden Ramsey
Where’s the Lamb sauce?!
Garden Ramsay
It's actually Gordon Ramsé
Hope You ain't the guy that got that as a Tattoo on Twitter
Sure if he fell a lot and started hating pizza crusts and kebabs for whatever reason.
Ser Grant is unique let's just sau that.
kind of cool that Garnt could talk to his mom about her cooking like that
My wife has a rule that if you're in a restaurant that sells ethnic food and none of the customers are of that ethnicity then you are in the wrong restaurant
I think the really depends where you are at. You have to think about demographics in that area. My town has very few Asians. I think going to restaurants has different tiers. I wouldn’t compare a find dining restaurant to a casual restaurant. Not because of the quality but because of the type of food. If it was a place like New York I would agree with you.
true
My family does that since I was a kid.
You should tell your wife she's kinda dumb then (though she might dislike that). The customer base of a commerce is moreso linked to the demographics of the area than it is to the actual content of shop.
@@dzello Ignoring your opinion, isn't it kinda fucked to be like, "yo I think your wife is dumb as hell" LMAO
just say something about how you disagree with her, not straight up insult her
True there is lot of cooks, chefs, owners etc out there who have lost theyre passion or never have it in the first place.
I worked as an cook for a while but learned that i am much happier elsewhere so i simply moved on...
My mom will specifically ask waiters what their opinion of some of the meals are and many times she has been told "Don't get that, get this instead" lol
Edit: since this is getting a lot of attention I wanted to add that my mom was a waitress for awhile and knew just the right things to ask because of it. She also would leave very big tips because she felt a kinship with all restaurant staff :)
Anthony Bourdain said the same thing. Making the customer happy is more in line with the waiter's self-interest than helping the kitchen push subpar dishes.
Me and my family have ALWAYS done that in India.
My father sometimes makes friends with the chef, and if we visit again, the chef recommends good shit.
@Shep VanDelay sounds like she was a bad waitress
@@howdy4504 We can definitely see why she is an ex
Some meals are on the menu because that's what the Chef knows to make realy goood. Some are on the menu because customers expect them to be available.
This video has made me realize that I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at a resturant, now that I think about it.
I can only remember one very bad time
Taste is subjective.
I didn't know the Garnt had a degree in food critique. 😮
Everyone with a phone is a critique 😂
And yet he likes grease more than the meat its on, hates pizza crusts so he eats pizza inverted and thinks kebab which every single human being enjoys as is, cannot be enjoyed without being drunk
Not a fan sitting through this but I understand the critiques but a really good cook is there own biggest critic.
There's a huge difference when you follow a step by step tutorial on CZcams and actually learning flavor profile working together doesn't mean you have to go to culinary school to understand it; the beauty of cooking is extremely experimental so you're limited by your own imagination.
And with running a Business it's much more than the product you're creating and selling
I can make bomb ass tacos all I want but if I don't know how to market myself, figure my suppliers, and understand clients taste I'd be sure to fail.
I had open heart surgery... and i agree with Connor
You know I’d be concerned if my surgeon was a little too excited to open my heart 🤨
Funny Garnt talks in the end about olive oil being like a thing for michelin star chefs. In Spain we produce A LOT of olive oil and we use it to cook pretty much everything. We call it liquid gold. We don’t only use it for cooking, we add it to toasted bread, cheese etc. We just love it and they say it’s pretty healthy. Shame on people that only use it for salads 😂
Same in Italy (obviously) use it for everything. Litterally everything.
best ever food review show is actually good
yes, it is the best ever food review show
yes, it is the best ever food review show
he's a really sweet dude.
5:09 lol i love connors line
When they were talking about how the chief would ask if you liked the meal I was confused. I’ve never had that experience, except at some habachi places, but I do sometimes get the waiter to ask. That always makes me happy when they ask
Can someone tell me where I can find that video of the water bottle they are talking about?
I work at a fast food place and I'm in the middle of finding a different job, I'm thankful that I got this job since I had just moved to the area and literally no where was hiring, plus my boss and the employees are nice so that's a plus but food and beverage industry is NOT my thing in fact I hate it. I do my best but sometimes there's that one customer who is hard to brush off, you' run into rude people no matter where you go but I think I've seen people get angry over the littlest things and have the weirdest nitpicks or change their minds about something at the last minute and try to convince you that your wrong and they didn't say this thing five second ago.
I think the most annoying thing that happened at my work was that this woman got angry that we had to start charging extra for certain things, so she casually dropped a racial slur, went home and called up a bunch of her family members to review bomb us to drop us to a two star. (I'm just surprised that she admitted to this, also the extra charge was a whole 0.96 cents XD )
So yeah running a restaurant is definitely not for the weak, I have a lot of respect for anyone with the patience to do it and continue to be passionate enough to stay in that profession.
Oh my God, wanting the meal you pay for to be worth the price?! How dare, can't believe some people live such disgustingly excessive lives./s
They're so privileged, my goodness.
By breathing?/genq/s/huh/stfu?
I fthe one meal im looking forward to the most of the entire day, a meal that I pay for - ends up being crap - that would ruin my day and excitement for eating out.
and im not picky
I thought the title was Gordon Ramsay critiqued grant's parents restaurant
these clips are gold
Garnt: I have high standards
Also garnt: all bread taste the same
The actual clip starts at 9:50
"How are you going to serve food at your restaurant that is worse than what you cook at home!" Garnt says. But its pretty well known that a good chef barely cooks for himself, especially if they dont have kids. So a bad chef DEFINITELY doesn't cook better at home than at work. They'll eat a burnt toast and call it a day.
Part of the reason why I stayed in the food industry is to make the food GREAT, and to recommend food with a passion. I LOVE cooking and baking. I went into baking competitions a couple of times when I Was younger and I have a true love for this craft and they're right. You really need passionate people to work these places, even fast food places, otherwise it just sucks. Whens the last time you got exceptional service at mcdonalds?
I’m waiting for a cooking special
Idk, I'd have a really hard time accepting a review from someone who doesn't like pizza. Like pizza is universal
The surgeon comment was so stupid, and unpassionate one who doesn't care to go the extra mile or fix mistakes can sometimes just lead you to being dead.
As a Haikyuu fan, I wonder which character it was supposed to be.
Sometimes I find it funny how the bois will talk about how others nit picks what they say/ do.
But then they themselves will rant about other fields and how they do it wrong or it's shit. Because they have some experience. lol
Yeah was just thinking that, guess we're all blindsided at times
@@carlosromero-sn9nm Blind spot for sure. It can seem the guys can complain or even attack things they don't fully understand or enjoy.
Over time, I felt it has been an increasing amount of pushing views on other subjects by saying strong words like "hate" "Stupid" "F this" and etc. Also, telling the audiences how we effect them without acknowledging much of their own side. Like this video or how they use to bring up subjects on America but then complain about xenophobia in Japan. There's some entitlement I notice.
@@BDunback welcome to the world of podcast, where most of the time the people in there dont know what they are talking about but pretend they do.
thrash taste is like if you turn twitter and reddit into a podcast. just a group of people that love to get their opinion be known but downvote or block anyone that dont agree or correct them or "jk bro, we are talking thrash, this is thrash taste afterall"
Well them talking about it it’s probably because they got bothered by the opinion, that being said they can’t do anything about it other than talk about it. Same situation if you’re a restaurant owner, if someone said something about your restaurant and it bothered you, you’d probably wanna address it in some way. Yet you can’t do anything about it.
simply put there’s no winners in this case
Pov: anybody ever
True, I hate going to a restaurant anywhere and it’s not good food.
P.S. the best ever food review show is the best food /travel CZcams channel.
I expected garnt to get his ass whooped when he criticised his mums meal
"I would rather have a botched surgery than have a bad meal-Connor cdawgva"
I use my takeaway to launder my drug money
I don't care if it tastes shit
I question the logic of this
this chit-chat makes me hungry
To his point about restaurant food. If you follow a good recipe on CZcams it is likely to be as good as or better than a restaurant because it is a good recipe. I go to restaurants who cook food that i am either too lazy to cook, can't get the ingredients/don't have the equipment to cook. Or i simple don't know how to cook. But I like to cook and eating at a restaurant is hardly better than what I can cook at home.
can anyone give meilyne's channel name
Meilyne is the personification of Central from Shokugeki no Souma haha
Absolutely agree with her. More restaurants and servers need to be called out
Damn. It's fun reading comments
To everyone that say the complaints are privileged, think also someone who doesn't have a lot of money; they saved up to go to a place and the food turned out shit. Pretty fucking awful if you ask me, and that is more of an impact then for someone who can afford it on a consistent basis.
So true.
I can't eat out often and when I do and it tastes bad I'm pissed.
Eating at a restaurant is something special for me.
From my experience, the more fancy/expensive restaurants actually have worse food because rich people just don’t give a shit and want to brag about how nice their meal looks and how expensive it is more than they care about the flavor.
This reminds me of a smart tip when your ordering at a restaurant and you don't know what to get: ask for the most _popular_ items on the menu and choose from those.
A waiters recommendation may make them think your asking what THEY like which YOU may not like. But if you get one of the most _popular_ items, people must like it bc they keep ordering it.
gotta try that, thks mate, appreciate’ it
Some menu’s have a little star or something by an item that’s popular as well.
The trouble with that is, if you have a unique taste, then the popular items may not be for you. Lol
@@Neekazan unique wording for trash taste

Get Gordon Ramsey as guest for trash taste
Didn't realize the part of Garnt's family restaurant was only the last 2 minutes. Hmm... maybe Garnt's mom was serving New York pizza with hotdogs on the crust, and Garnt went ballistic. -LOL
Sometimes you have to eat bad for to appreciate good food. Like watching bad movies, anime or reading books or manga. You experience the bad to appreciate the good.
I would hate going to eat with either of them.
Need sonny with the boys now

Yeah, I recall reading about a restaurant in Japan that only serves canned food, so I think you'll be alright.
Yeah if the food isn’t enjoyable then why go I have a mom who can cook when I’m to lazy to
Note to self: Ban Garnt and Meilyne from restraunt that I will never open.
I got a free extra steak because without me complaining the chef made me another because she said she didn't feel like she made it well
I would absolutely subscribe the minute maylene makes her channel
BEFRS is awesome
IT'S FUCKING RAW
Random thought but speaking as a fellow single child who also criticized mum's cooking and thereby incentivized her into being a 5 star chef, I can't help but think there's something about being a single child that gives you the spoiled/liberating attitude of being able to tell your mom her cooking isn't top notch lol

I don't get what the hot take is? Is it just that they critique food?

Replace review with youtube comment and they would be on the CZcamsrs side not the commenter. Just shows cognitive distance.
Wowoowowowow
They’ve never worked at a restaurant
Good, the restaurant industry is fucking awful
“Once you accept you are being judged by people who have less knowledge than yourself, then what’s it worth?” Marco Pierre White
Everyone thinks they know about food. Unless you are able to critique food on a technical level while at the same understanding and knowing how to perform it yourself, you are just a poser throwing their opinion in the wind. 99% of the time, a food review is just someone who has an inherit bias fueling their "review" based on their preconceived notions what is good and how it should be.
I take any review as serious as the person who says they are allergic to gluten but orders a cheesecake to end their meal.
Unfortunately with today's age, social media has been a tool that has been abused and people review places simply out of pettiness or the want to feel they "know" better.
Prophet Muhammad said that if you dont like a food or if it taste bad, put it aside and dont insult it..just want to share that..
yeah next time my wife insult my food i will recite this.
note : my wife is 27 but acted like 6yo.
@@alexamderhamiltom5238 must be hard huh but thats the point of life..to prove ones worth through ordeal and tribulation..be patience with it you can do it..
Imma keep it real with you. I think the idea of if the food is bad it ruins my day is such a first world problem. Like if you go to any second or third world country having a "bad" meal is usually the least of anyone's worries. Like we are so lucky as that a bad meal is like the worst thing that could happen.
Bruh if I was kinda poor and I spent my hard-earned money on an expensive restaurant for a special occasion just to get a shit meal, I'd be pissed af
@@Tomluke5823 I'm saying we are lucky to be living in a first world country where that is the most we can complain about.
As someone on a thirld world country you are dead wrong, even poor people get mad if their food is bad, i mean you probably can't it 3 times per day, so a lot fo poor people skip dinner, so theor lunch must be good, if it taste bad they just get dissapointed, because this is when you can eat and is just awful.
Can’t really get behind this podcast take. Not a fan of Yelp reviewers thinking they know anything about food when they couldn’t cook an egg correctly. Such elitists.
You don't have to know about the food to tell if it taste bad.
@@BabyfaceMilan true, but acting pretentious about your critiques on who should cook food is whole nuther thing. There comes a point between constructive criticism and acting like you can do better.

I mean if you can cook you can complain. I won't say it to the cook's face but if food is shit or worse than others, I will make a comment to my friends.
The point was I'm paying you because I can't do it so it should be good or I can cook a shit meal myself
