- This video shows the Active Park Assist technology in the 2013 SL550. New for 2013 is the ability to 'un-park' the car. This is a Mercedes-Benz exclusive feature and currently exclusive only to the SL550.
Stop by our Premier Mercedes-Benz showroom in Silver Spring, MD to experience the next chapter of the SL-class today!
Some of you are completely missing the point of this excercise in technology. Ultimately, this demonstration will lead to thinks like fully automated driving. Auto pilot if you will. The ability to drive from New York to LA without ever having to anything other than fill the car with gas and sleep the entire journey. Doesn't matter who makes the car...it's all about who figures out the sensoring on all our highways. This parking demo is very cool!
It would have been funny if there was a person off camera with a remote controlling the car that the camera showed lol. I know this was not the case as I have that car and use park assist regularly, but that would have been a funny a bit to see the remote guy scrambling to hide. Nice job.
This is a $ 100,000 car and we didn't want to risk damage by using a space that was too tight. We merely wanted to demo the technology to our viewers and hence left enough room to prevent any operator errors. The car is otherwise able to park in a space that is only 5 feet longer than itself.
Can you help me with the front grill. My got damaged ?
Yes, you can! This feature is currently available on all SL, GL, ML, CLS cars and will be offered on the E-class starting next summer.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! Finally, someone who gets what this tech is all about and where it is headed. Mercedes-Benz along with many other companies (Google comes to mind) are working on a host of self-driving technologies that will shape how we view transportation in the future.
Ist doch ein nettes Feature, wenn das mit dem Spurwarnassistenten zusammenarbeitet sicher ein gutes System! Fettes Like nach Stuttgart!
That spot was friken huge
The Mercedes-Benz Active Park Assist can park in a spot that is 5 feet longer than the car. Of course, these are new cars and we wanted to leave enough room to reduce operator error. :) Thanks for watching!
MB...I love tech and I see where it SHOULD be going. I just bought this car. I'm picking it up next week. I had an '03 but this one seems like it will be so much better with AMG qualities without having to spend AMG dollars....and I got it in Pearl Beige with the P1 pkg...can hardly wait! I probably won't ever use the park assist as I am generally never going to park that car near any other car.
how did it hold up? i have an 04 buick lesabre as a daily driver and i've been looking at sl550s from 2011-2013 bc im in love with both of those body styles. Any major issues apart from regular benz maintenance?
This feature is available in both our ML and GL suv's.
congratulation Mercedes team. you are awesome. thank you for sharing this video with us.
I think this car is the best in the world. I would lik to ask even I asked to mercedez dealer before. ok. can I bring the 2013 sl350 Mercedes to us. as you know there is not in market that model.
but I really would like to buy it by EDP Mercedes program. Could you please let us know how ways we can bring it to here. thanks.
beautiful.
Totally awesome
Thanks I wondered how it worked.
550? im pretty sure the 2013 model is either SL350 or SL500. excluding the 63 and 65 AMG models. am i wrong?
oh i see :) in the UK we get the SL350, SL500, SL63 AND SL65. Don't know why we get 500 and you get 550 though...?
lovable
...and at a much tighter space.
Good eyes! Yes, it is an SLK.
Can i get this on SL63 AMG ? Because im planning to buy it next month.
just WOW!!!!!!!
its magic
This system only controls the steering wheel while the driver controls the gear shift, the gas and the brake pedals. So it is slow because of the driver, not the system. I have a Range Rover Evoque which does the same thing and I can tell you, it can park much faster than most drivers can.
I agree.. a car being that small, and the parking spot to big, it shouldn't be any difficult to park, with backup sensors would be enough. If ts an SUV, then a camera and sensors will be usefull.
You are partly correct. In the US, the SL goes by SL550, 63, and 65. There are no V6 versions of this car available in the US market. Hence, no SL350.
Great Demo. Who's controlling the throttle and braking?
But does the driver shift the car when prompted?
550 is the same, mbusa wanted to use the nameplate during the time when it was a 5.5 v8, as this appeals to people as more powerful and more exclusive. Same engines just different names.
What's the silver one in front of the SL550? Is it an SLK?
Question: can the car pull into a very tight spot?
This is Police!!, put your hands up where I can see them Homie!
$117K...I s'pose I could have haggled a little more but I do have a couple of the xtra goodies on board. Plus I have a unique one of only two or three in the USA, color combo.
clearly you are unable to understand my real point. when did I say that a compact ford was the same as this mercedes? thank you...
it is stressful to park, if i am sure it will make no mistakes, then i will go for it
I'm actually planning to buy an SL550. The "in" feature is fine but the "out" function is pure gimmick, as it would've been much less time consuming to reverse first, then turn right & exit the space. If you can't do that you shouldn't be allowed to drive such a powerful car.
POLICIA PUT YOUR HANDS UP AMIGO! hahahaaha jk... i had to do it
could have just pulled in without ever putting it in reverse
+Andreas von T.
Yup, the parking space is very spacious.
Should tried on a tighter space, eg, 18 inches front and rear then see how will it perform.
+Andreas von T. You have to put it in reverse then it will do the parking for you. This guy is wrong when he says put it in park!
Actually, the driver could have put it in reverse first and gotten out of the space a lot quicker.
Active Park assist should be in bigger cars... Pick-up SUV SUX and 4x4
I thought it was a explorer
I would be able to park Cadillac Escalade there, just by my own :p
All self parking features are useless and time consuming just like any other uneeded technology in new cars but its just fun to have
the shame of all system a car can have
1. a 25K ford focus does the same thing
2. if you cant park in that much space, then you should not be driving...
no way i let the car do the parking itself even though i know it can do it :)))
So advice, get a steady cam...that was annoying to watch.
all the time the car is taking to get out of the parking spot is all the more time another car coming out of a blind corner can slam right into you.
man the paring area is too vast I can park with less than this area !!
this facility does not worth !!!
useless feature, if you can't park in that wide spot by yourself you shouldn't be driving. I respect the technology though.
THE FRONT LOOOOOKS UGLY
That's slow as shit
