      They are honestly great cars. I have 67 reg one in mineral grey. No heated seats or reverse camera but it has got parking sensors and standard cruise control (not the "Adaptive" cruise control).
      Was supposed to be around £20k and at the time I bought it I paid £18,300 including a 3 year warranty. 67 reg with 59,000 miles on it bought in December 2022, decent price to be fair, it was the only one advertised in the entire country that I found at that price for the age and mileage. Since then I've fitted the larger pro-nav 8.8 inch screen which I fitted and coded myself using Bimmercode, to replace the original 6.6 inch non-touchscreen which looks awful.
      For a big 3 litre diesel saloon it honestly goes like sh*t off a shovel when you want it to. I've left an AMG A45 for dead at a set of lights just before a large roundabout in Brighton even in the damp. I was away from the lights, onto the roundabout and at my exit before the A45 had even got fully onto the roundabout. When you want to relax and cruise around however it acts just like a normal comfortable cruiser, and I get easily 35-39mph without even trying and driving it like it should be driven a lot of the time. I've heard people state they can get 40-50mpg in these but I've never seen 50mpg. Best I got was about 45-46mpg on a long run on the M20 which was about 60-70 miles at 70mph with cruise control on.
      These things honestly give performance cars a serious run for their money. It pulls quicker than an M140i and M3 but slowly the 140i and the M3 will claw back the advantage and come past, the 335D is one of if not the quickest car off the line.

      @@kevmcd8603 I looked at the Golf R, although I prefer bigger cars.
      The only thing I can't stand is what I'd describe as a tacky interior, the Golf R has almost like picnic style chequered stitching on some of the cloth seat variants which just looks tacky. The steering wheel to me also looks and feels "low rent" as does the interior. For a car which costs £25,000-£35,000 it simply isn't good enough to me. I drove a Golf GTI rental from Zipcar on a few occasions and the interior just wasn't good enough for the price, when you compare it to other German brands.
      The performance is incredible, I saw a Golf R Fly past me a few years back when I had a Focus ST. I have the saloon version of the 335D and for me it's the perfect balance of space, comfort, efficiency and performance, rapid performance but isn't overly harsh, bouncy or uncomfortable, decent efficiency too with up to 50mpg from a 3 litre engine is quite impressive. I drive in a spirited manner most of the time and I can still achieve between 35 and 39mpg 99% of the time.

    I have one of these, 67 plate 335D X Drive. The original pads were BMW OEM and I felt they were quite spongey... I replaced front and rear discs and pads and opted for EBC Yellowstuff. My word they don't half squeak a lot and the braking feels a bit better but I still think the brakes are not brilliant in this car. The first few cm of travel in the brake pedal does nothing and even the initial bite after is only "medium" or "Average" at best. You really have to mash your foot down hard to get proper heavy braking.
    Before anyone says "Get the brake fluid changed" I service my car well (probably too much). It had an oil change 2 months after ownership, in April 2023 it had a full service done, May 2023 the discs and pads were all changed as above and in August 2023 it had a major service (every 2 years or 24,000 miles), the brake fluid has been changed and it's made no difference.
    If a big brake kit wasn't £3,000+ I'd be opting for that. But for 3k I could literally retrofit heated seats, reverse camera and change the Michelin runflats to standard Michelin PS4's on all four corners and still have 1k change left.

    • @hamesto6992
      @hamesto6992 Před 8 měsíci +3

      Really recommend switching to non-runflats at some point. I just switched last week to regular tyres and it's made a huge difference to comfort - really soaks up all the small bumps and undulations!

      I had the same issue on my 435d, to stop the spongey feeling and more travel
      Just install a steel brake line! Dont know why people dont mention this but this will transform your brakes.
      Just try it out (costs around 100euros) and you will stop looking for 3k kits

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 Před 3 měsíci

      @@hamesto6992 I would do but the problem I find is that a lot of the roads I drive on are utterly appalling.
      The other issue I have is that often I'm miles from home, so if I did get a puncture sitting at the roadside faffing about with a puncture repair kit is a lot more hassle than just continuing to drive but slowly.
      I once left the house for work at 6AM, noticed I had a flat rear runflat tyre. I drove to work on it (6 miles), back home again also 6 miles, then to work again the next day AND from work about 5 miles to the tyre garage to have replacements fitted.
      What standard tyre would get you 23 miles with little to no air in it? I've had standard tyres before and had punctures and every time had to stop within a mile because it's totally deflated.
      The other issue I have is that I can't afford to just simply lay out £1k in one go for decent summer tyres, and the front and rears seem to wear at different levels so need replacing at different times. If I replaced the RFT's for summer tyres when the fronts were worn I'd still have perhaps 4-5mm of tread left on the rear RFTs.

      Prior to 2015 the timing chains had design flaws with the plastic guide rails, and were prone to coming off or snapping.
      Since then apparently BMW claim they are "fit for the life of the car" which I don't buy along with a lot of people. My 335D is a 67 reg and has done 79,800 miles and I plan to start saving up for a replacement timing chain, because I imagine my warranty will claim it's a "Wear and tear" item and won't cover it. The total cost varies but the lowest quote I had was £1,860 and the highest I've seen was £2,600, unfortunately as the timing chain is only accessible by removing the entire engine it's a lot of labour hours hence the high price.
      I've seen on plenty of BMW forums people with older 335d's than mine stating they're over 100k miles and still going strong, saw one person state he was at 140k still on the original chain on a 15 plate 335d. I plan to get mine changed no later than 100-110k mark. If it snaps you're in big trouble and you can easily spend 5,000+ on repairing the engine.

    At 6:00 he is talking rubbish, you will not gain ANY power without injecting more fuel in a diesel and by injecting more fuel you WILL change the emissions. The secret is to stop just before you get loads of smoke as that show unused fuel in the combustion process. The excess fuel burns off in the exhaust maniold and turbo and blocks the DPF and CAT up much faster. When you do a regeneration it causes havoc as the car is already injecting more fule, so when the ECU does this during a forced regen it just pumps diesel down the exhaust and a lot of it ends up in the engine oil causing premature failure.
    There is more to tuning a car than copying files on to it or getting ripped off with one of those £10 voltage multipliers that sells as a tuning box for £500. If you inject MORE FUEL you will get LESS MPG ! Can't wait to see if it's been crashed!
