    I’ve had my 335d just over a year. It’s running a modest stage 1 (370/700nm) with a XHP gearbox stage 2 map. The car still takes me by surprise with how quick it is. You do get used to it, which is always the way. 3rd snd 5th are great gears. Dropping from 8th to 5th when doing 60 is nuts! What an engine!

    Now a 335D Xdrive with a stage 1 remap would be a weapon! It just lacks in the noise department sadly... but I’d definitely leave the badges on so people know not to even try 😂

      @DownShiftThrottle  Před 5 lety +6

      Yeap agreed. Stage 1 remap would be great. As I mentioned this is stock but still pushing out 330hp. I found it very responsive and effortless to drive as a daily which is nice. It's sounds pretty good tbf for diesel too.

      Had my 2016 335d stage 1 remapped about a year since so now 400bhp and 770Nm torque. I can honestly say that's been the best few hundred quid I've ever spent! Mostly now in Sport+ mode on straight roads. The straight line acceleration increase even from 50mph+ is blistering.

    I’ve been running a F30 335d for nearly 5 years now. I’m really struggling to think of a car I would replace it with. The performance and economy are both incredible. In January this year I bought my wife a M140i shadow edition. Both stock cars. We have never bothered to find out which is faster as the M140i is clearly more responsive. Off the line the xdrive 335d does surprise a lot of other drivers. It’s great switching between the two.

    Ive recently bought a 335D x Drive. And can say without a doubt it is a fantastic car. I know it lacks in the sound department, but it is a great all rounder. Getting a remap next week and have been told to expect around 360hp & 700Nm of torque.... Don't forget this is a diesel.

      That's poor for a stage 1 remap should be looking at around 390/400bhp and 750/800nm of torque. My E90 335d has 386bhp and 826lbs of torque

      You can go over 400bhp but the gearbox is rated at ¹700Nm. So a map to 370ish bhp takes you to the top end of the gearbox tolerance. Going past the 700Nm leaves you open to potential issues.

Get it to stage two and it’s a serious quick bit of kit, especially off the line. You have an 8 speed paddle shift gearbox at your disposal which in sport + mode you should use when the revs hit 3k max! That way you stay in the power band per say and don't bog down until you hit way over 10pmph

    If you factor performance and running cost, the 35d wins because the b58 will only be marginally quicker but for how much more you have to spend fueling up your car all the time, its not worth the performance gain over the much cheaper to run diesel. If you want to factor fun and and overall driving experience then the b58 cars win because you cant beat the sound of a 6 cyl petrol engine revving up like how an engine should. Very hard decision to choose between the two tbh. If you barely do any miles a year perhaps the b58 car makes more sense otherwise you should probably get a 35d. I'm personally stuck between getting a 235i, 335d or 640d but can't make my mind up.

I initially thought that the higher torque will out do the bhp, sadly 35d engine runs out of steam at the higher revs.However xdrive does give you the confidence to plant your foot down in rain or shine, it seams like Bmw have listened to their customers, and are thinking of both rwd and xdrive options on the new M3, can't wait to try it out.

      Once you hit around 4,000 RPM the Diesel you can feel the engine cutting off, you just wish the engine had more RPM to keep going, and that’s what the M140I has. Which is why in this race, the diesel was better initially due to all the torque and bhp coming early on, but with the M140I it required a bit more of a push to get the same peak performance. That being said, petrol engines usually have a lot less torque than the an M140I so I have seen stock 335D’s breeze past golf R’s etc.
