    Love the flip up filter attachment. I wish someone had told me to buy big 82mm filters back in the day. I have a bunch that fit my lens, but the oversized filters can be stacked in lots of interesting ways with out vignetting. :)

    Can you do a comparison with normal lenses and these anamorphic ones?
    I wonder if you can see differences in non flaring situations.
    I am looking for an anamorphic lens to make pictures with. I'm wondering if it will give the image some extra character, as with vintage lenses.

    Hey Mathieu! Nice video. Just a couple of questions... Will that diopter work with the 35 and the 50 (am not talking about the filter size)? What is it effect on the depth of field? I guess it narrows it right? And... What's the maximum focusing distance when the diopter is on? I guess you cannot reach infinity fovus. Thank you!

    • @MathieuStern
      @MathieuStern  Před 3 lety +1

      All the diopter will work on any lens, it will make you focus closer than the limit of your lens, a +2 diopter will let you focus around 20 cm from your subject, a +4 diopter will let you focus around 10 cm, and a +10 ... almost 2 or 3 cm , for macro only.
      the kit i Linked in the description has a +1 +2 +4 +10 diopters, so it will be more than enough

    I wish Sirui manage to include some kind of oval diaphragm in future iterations to have a nice oval bokeh.
    Theres a hack made by TFerradans for that but i don;t want to mess with opening the lens and all that.

    What's the FOV on a Sony A7iii in full frame mode? I thought you had to zoom in a bit to get rid of vignetting from Brandon's video?

    • @sandb1867
      @sandb1867 Před 3 lety

      Assuming both the Sirui 50mm and the 24mm have the same image circle and thus both requiring at least 1.3x digital zoom in 4K video mode, then I estimate a HFOV for the 24mm of 60 degrees. This just a rough calculation so take it with a grain of salt.

    With this wide focal length and such a small squeeze factor (1.33x) there is almost no "anamorphic look" besides some flares. Such a shame. It would be 1000 times more cinematic if they made it 2x. The price is cheap for anamorphic, but I really can't tell the difference or get the "film" vibes from this.

    • @martorth
      @martorth Před 3 lety

      @@martinda7446 why full frame quality? Can you explain?

    • @martinda7446
      @martinda7446 Před 3 lety

      @@martorth It is why anamorphic was made - so instead of letterboxing, you stretch vertically to use the whole film or sensor and use optics/software to correct (stretch horizontally) on display.

    • @StringerBell
      @StringerBell Před 3 lety +1

      @@martinda7446 I talk about the squeeze factor, which has nothing to do with the frame sensor. It's the stretch factor. Learn more about anamorphic. There are different stretch factors. 2x is the classic in cinema and that's the "anamorphic look signature". When you go wider like here (24mm) the stretch factor is almost non-existent and hence the effect is so subtle, that beats the hassle of using the anamorphic in the first place (have to shoot manual, have to stretch it in the post) to have little to no effect (besides the flares)
