Bought one just because ive never owned a 25 and right out of the box it worked flawlessly as it was designed with zero problems. Guess mine was made on a wednesday aye? lol Ammo is a bit pricey but so far worked every time. Modified for 160 bucks, its not a bad gun. Everyone makes choices. Enjoy y all

Perhaps this gun needs to have the packing grease cleaned out before shooting. Also, could some of the failures to go back into battery be the way the gun was being held?

Made on a Friday evening or Monday morning you say? My theory is that some intoxicated employee stumbled in on a SATURDAY NIGHT, just to make the pistol SPECIAL for you! 😁
All jokes aside, when I got my own HP25A Saturday Night Special, the FFL specifically told me to expect a substantial break-in period. When I brought it home and worked the slide, I had to agree that it seemed to hesitate when going back into battery. I took the firearm apart and saw that the slide rails were dry as a bone and a bit gritty. I cleaned them, added a generous amount of oil, put the pistol back together, and worked the slide a hundred times or so. The grittiness and slide hesitation disappeared.
Due to the price and availability of .25 auto I admittedly haven't put a ton of rounds through it yet. But in everything I have fired, I have not had a single malfunction. Interestingly, the one and only issue I did have was ammo related exactly like yours. It LOOKED like the primer was struck hard enough, but the round didn't fire. No, the HP25A definitely isn't a masterpiece of gunsmithing, but it's sure fun to shoot, especially after doing the safety modifications as I have. I also bought some 3D printed magazine followers from a guy that give me a last shot hold open. Yes, .25 auto is expensive, but I actually find myself being more careful and less wasteful with my shots as a result. And if I were FORCED to choose between a .22 and .25 pistol for defense, the .25 gets the win for being centerfire (though that dud primer does raise my eyebrow a bit...) To each their own though!

@127AFS Thanks for your comment: "I cleaned them (the slide rails), added a generous amount of oil, put the pistol back together, and worked the slide a hundred times." I did a good cleaning and applied a generous amount of oil, but maybe working the slide like that would help. However, the slide catches on the hammer at the bottom of the firing pin rear plate and it's wearing that part of the hammer. I think it's more of a clearance issue and that the hammer is not locking down low enough. Have you experienced anything like that? And if so, what did you do to fix it? I noticed it after cleaning and reassembly while checking the slide and round feed operation. It happens when the slide is moving slow because I'm holding it. The slide seems to go into battery OK when released from fully pulled back, but this wear is worrisome. I bought the HP25A used from a pawn shop and have only fired it twice in a decade, but I have no idea how many rounds have been shot. Thanks

I found out it needs to be polished up before its first range trip. Take it apart and use polishing compound and a dremel. Works fine now. Hobby gun!

I've got the 22 version, and it shoots whatever I put in it ! Other than the multiple safeties, I've had good use out of it. Also , the magazines are very reasonable. I'm sure they have went up some, but they used to be $11.50 each plus like $3.00 shipping. That was my first pocket size tool, and was my "Dog walking protection " until I could afford something better.

They're made in California 😂. Probably why it has 32 safeties on it ! L.O.L.!

CA has a bunch of stupid safety laws but this gun company which is another Saturday Night Special company btw has "over did the safety" issue and took it to another level.
Should of just stuck with...Mag disconnect, up/down safety, firing pin block safety and the basic. Lol

I have two Phoenix Arms HP-22s and they both run flawlessly through a couple thousand rounds. I bought the HP-25 and I too have had issues with it. I've only put 50 rounds through it so far so that may be the issue.

You have to run these guns in with at least a 100-200rd break in, it might even be closer to 500rds. before things smooth out. It's also not a good idea to jump right in w/out removing the stock oil and grease, it's likely that the factory will over lube it for inventory storage, and racking the slide a bunch can help wear down the tight spots like slide-to-frame fit, etc. It's also a good thing to remember that these types of guns are better suited as a 6-10ft. "leave me the f'k alone" gun. 🤠

I put a few dozen rounds through mine. Brand new. Had every kind of problem there is. Misfeed, misfire, stovepipe, no ejection, no battery. I cleaned it and oiled it and put it in the safe. That was about a year ago.

I have no desire for a .25 handgun.
With that said, I do own the .22 version and it is a nice gun and is very dependable.
Rather than going down to a .25 cal. handgun, I chose to get the LCP Max, which is lighter, shoots .380 ammo and holds 12 rounds. This is all in a handgun that is roughly the same size as the Phoenix .HP-25

The silver ones of those remind me of a mini automag pistol and are quite nice looking. If the slide is Zinc alloy it'll have the potential cracking problem that many other cheap pistols have had and the only way around this seems to be to massively over engineer the slides as High Point do.Not a Saturdays Night 🌃 Special but a Friday Night/Monday Morning Special!

This "going into battery" thing seems to be the main issue I'm having with my HP25A. I've had it for about a decade and never used it except for test firing twice. The slide has returned, feeding the next round after being fired, but after cleaning and "racking" to check reassembly, the slide catches on the hammer at the bottom of the firing pin rear plate and it's wearing that part of the hammer. This happens if the slide is moving slower than normal because I'm holding it while checking its movement. This video was posted almost a year ago. You have modified the Safety and posted how to do it. Have you done anything about the "going into battery" thing? Or has it worked itself out? I only noticed it after cleaning yesterday. I bought mine used from a pawn shop, so I have no idea how many rounds have been through it.

To be honest, we have not really shot it too much after we made the video. We will take it back out and see if we can get it to run a little better.

Wow, those safety's are a turn off. Otherwise I would probably buy it. I still might buy it just because of the price, but it seems so troublesome to shoot.
