    Disney‱Pixar proudly presents the hilarious story of how two mismatched monsters met and became lifelong friends in a movie screaming with laughter and oozing with heart. Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he's dreamed of becoming a Scarer-and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike's plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, "Sulley" (John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair's out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University's elite Scare Program. With their dreams temporarily dashed, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

    To be honest think the message in this movie is the most grounded ever for a disney/Pixar film. A good reason why they came out with this sequel around this time, is when kids who saw the first one were now starting college/uni. (I'm one of these kids) our generation was brainwashed pretty hard into thinking everything would go our way in life, when in reality we may not be good enough to be a doctor or lawyer or what we want. Real life hit on our self esteem hard. This is a really good movie for those people who don't quite make it, but stay positive and keep an open mind. There's never a set path in life. Love it so much

      Same. When this film came out, I'd just dropped out of uni a year earlier and was depressed and feeling like a failure. Even though the rest of the film wasn't amazing, the end message makes up for it. It was exactly what I needed at that time. After that I went into retail for a few years, worked my way up and went back to uni in my late 20s. Now I'm about to graduate next year at 30 and I'm so glad this film was around to tell me that same message you just said. Just because stuff doesn't work out the way you expect, that's not necessarily a bad thing. College/Uni isn't for everyone despite what they drill into your head at school. The set path isn't for everyone. Some people will go that way but others will do things differently. Neither way is better so don't stress if you feel like things are going bad

    A little subtle tribute to the first movie.
    Note how when Sulley fails the scare test by the Dean, it's because his roar would have made the little girl cry instead of scream. Which would have given the monster world away.
    This is in fact a reference to how when Sulley mistakenly roared at Boo during the simulation and she cried out of fear instead of screamed.

    Fun fact: Mary Gibbs/Boo's monster in "Inc." is Randyll(a very serpentlike monster). When Dean Hardscrabble begins giving the directions for how to scare a boy to Sully, the Dean mentions a child who is afraid of snakes having a monster roar would not cause him scream, but make him cry. When Sully roars in "Monsters Inc.", he makes Boo cry. Thought that was a neat call forward.
    I really love the message of this movie. It can be considered in two ways. One, someone never gets to live their dream. Thats alright, they can find something that makes them happy. Mike isn't scary physically, but he's smart enough to figure out how to scare fully grown adults with misdirection and slow terror. Another way to see it is Mike having a disability of some kind. He just doesn't....HAVE what makes someone scary, no matter how hard he tries.And finding a way to live with that and still do something you love is a pretty great message as well.

And it wouldn't have been the same without the overall message which is such an important one (funnily, I used to want to be a Pixar animator but that didn't work out - other dreams replaced it and I've never been happier :) They did a great job illustrating that!) Anyway this reaction was priceless, and I agree with the previous comment that more people ought to react to this one. :D

    @SpencerFinley Pƙed 2 lety +8

    I like that Mike's "roars" are more like wails or screams, they have an eeriness to them rather than being startling like a roar. It would definitely scare someone who believes in ghosts or cryptids, he just needs the right kind of setting! Like if they made a portable scream canister, something to take into a dark wooded area where some teens are camping, he could definitely get some screams as a "heard, not seen" kind of monster! :)

    I think everyone can see their own message in this movie, i love this so much because it helped me with my autism. For me the message it's that we often have dreams and aspirations but sometimes they're simply not possible and thats okay. For example I always wanted to have my own car and be able to drive one day but I can't, I have lots of tics and dissociation and it's overwhelming in general. At first I was sad and I blamed my neurodivergent brain for that and this made me fell in a very dark place. Now I see that it's not the end of the world if I can't make everything, yes it's sad, yes it's frustrating but for example I can still enjoy car rides where someone else is driving. I think it's an important message for disabled people like me to know that sometimes we can't do what we dreamed about and that's okay, there's other way that will make us equally happy. The theme of disability it's talked both in this movie and toy story 4 but in the last one the final message is "you can do whatever you want if you put your mind into it" and I think it's not true, we are often told to be positive and to see the bright side and sometimes it's just hard but thats okay. We don't need to push ourselves to fit people standards, I also love that Mike didn't finished school but still found a job that satisfy him. It's another important message for disabled and also abled people that just can't complete their studies. With that being said I loved this movie and If you're curious about the "after" Disney+ released a mini series for when the company changed from screams to laughs. Sorry for the long message, animation is a special interest of mine. Have a great day!!

My personal association with the film is that it taught me is that you don’t have to do everything successfully to be happy in life, you can find your passions without being super successful and as someone with lots of mental problems like anxiety and depression it really helped me realize that me leaving Highschool early out of anxiety and trauma wasn’t a failure in my eyes anymore, it’s okay to not do everything the same way that other people do things.

    School really doesn't come naturally to anybody. Someone who 'didn't need to study' was either hyperfocussed in class (80% of your memory comes from your first contact with the information), has gone through the information in the past and already knows it, or studies daily and makes no special exceptions for exam prep. And then of course you get those people who claim they don't study despite studying the hardest out of everyone, because they would rather have people think that they are lazy geniuses than that they aren't the best even when they are trying their hardest. That's why I really like that Sully gets a C- despite being talked up so much- this is the reality of the rivalry between the alleged prodigy and the good student. Worship like Sully experiences is always based on a false front while the true excellers go ignored. It's not really about Sully being good, it's about Mike representing a student with a disability.

      I agree with your assessment of how school doesn't come to anyone naturally. I didn't really study at home, but during class I memorized all the material as it was being presented, so I didn't need to refresh it later. I would glance at reviews briefly before a test to refresh my mind but never studied for more than 20 min. But I feel like you feel more accomplished if you struggle with something and overcome it instead of it being relatively easy for you. You feel like your work paid off.

    Been going through a lot of your animated film reactions and enjoying them a lot! You bring a lot of nice insight into things, which is I think on the rarer side as far as reaction channels go.
    As far as predictions for Pixar sequels go, it's worth pointing out that Pixar recently kind of mandated that sequels are going to be less of a focus for the company going forward, as constant reliance on existing IPs has been a major point of criticism in the years leading up to Toy Story 4.
    That's not to say there won't ever be sequels again, but it's definitely been less frequent, as the last 3 pixar movies have been new IPs, and the next one, Turning Red, is also original. The only "sequel" currently in the works is Lightyear, which isn't actually about the Andy's toy Buzz Lightyear, but about the in-universe "live action" sci-fi movie upon which the toy is based in Andy's reality. Kind of an unexpected way to use the IP while also offering something kind of original at the same time.

    Well firstly the squid game was both a good and bad series. These are the emotions that it will most likely make you feel and possibly affect you in a bad and sad way!! 1. It is very violent and bloody. 2. It is very sad and can be very depressing. 3. It is about the human condition. And lastly it is about hope. Anything else I leave for other people to say in the comments ok. I hope you will be OK after seeing this series!! đŸ€žđŸ™
