You might be able to use a square bit in a pinch for those, unless FastenMaster had custom bits designed which would be a serious red flag for their products

The star pattern looks suceptible to stripping. I think pre-drilling for the hex head would increase the aesthetic.

The star head is actually less susceptible to stripping than a regular phillips
