    Currently have a 2014 4th Gen Ram 1500 SLT and love it. Right now the financing is done and the truck is mine. Its done 260,000 kms (161,000+ miles) and I still love it. Just installed a 4" BDS lift it and stuff. Got some new Vland LED headlights and some 5th gen style rear lights coming in for it. I have a 10" Android head unit installed that gives me wireless Apple Car play and excellent navigation. With what I've done and what I use my truck for, I'm not feeling that makes trading it in for a 5th Gen a practical decision yet. Although, every time I see a 5th Gen driving around, I feel like I want to.
    Trading in for a 5th Gen would mean that I would be tied to another 5 year financing deal and it also wouldn't give me the confidence in going off road; unless I get the Rebel trim, which I plan to do.
    With my current truck, its out of warranty, I have a 4" lift and decent mods, that make it sort of perfect right now where I can actually start enjoying it a bit more.

    I have the 2020 Limited with 3:92 and I cannot be happier. To me this truck has the most comfortable seats of all the vehicles I’ve had period. I am 5’11.
    I traded it for my 2015 sport with the alpine system and although the alpine sounded very good, I feel the Harman Kardon is more refined, softer bass and way higher heights, although I wish the subwoofer had independent level adjustment.
    If I could make a change I will put the subwoofer under the seat and not behind the seat like the 5th gen current location.

    • @MrJustinWheeler
      @MrJustinWheeler Před rokem +1

    I am thinking you can avoid ergo knee problems in the 5th gen if you can find one with a folding front bench seat like my 2020 5th gen Laramie 1500 but this option is very uncommon. You lose the cordless phone charger and super deep storage, but don't rub your knee, good for dogs, easy to move into the passenger seat, easy to get to the driver's seat from the passenger side door, folds down to a perfect height arm rest, great for dating/parking, and multiple storage compartments.

      @@TruckCentral As a 3rd front middle seat, the fold front bench is a bit lacking. A small to normal sized adult could fit in a pinch but would need to duck splay their feet. It has no recline adjustment. And since there is no middle air bag, one shouldn't use it regularly as a seat for a child. A child would be much safer buckled in a rear seat plus child seat as needed.

      @TheNewenglandboys Před rokem +1

      @@MrJustinWheeler From what I gather, the tow hooks are only standard equipment on the upper models and that seems odd to me. It seems like whoever decided that is clueless when it comes to why people own trucks. Most people that buy the limited models aren't taking it through the woods down tote roads hunting and driving through mudd or unplowed snow down those tote roads where the chance of getting stuck or needing to pull someone out of those situations are great. The most expensive models with all the bells and whistles are perfect for someone spending countless hours making a living on the road with their trucks. But as for me, i'd trade out that sunroof for a set of tow hooks in a heartbeat. I don't make a living with my truck but I still use my truck as a truck so I don’t need to spend that extra $20 grand but still need to hook up a tow chain. Ahh but like anything else it depends on the individual. The short of it is, trucks should just plain have tow hooks even if it doesn't have a sun roof lol

    The fueling issue is a somewhat common problem. The dealers fix it by replacing the tank itself. It has something to do with not venting properly. Also, my 2020 BigHorn with the regular 8.4 non Alpine radio, also sucks.

  • @CyberCarnivore

    I bought a 2022 Ram Classic a few months back. It still comes with the Alpine but it's an upgrade from the one I had in my 2013 Laramie. It now has Nav and Apple Carplay/Android Auto built-in so that was a huge bonus. Also this one came lifted with 35's on it, another improvement over my old truck though it's something any model can have. All in all, I lost leather seats and a sunroof, but they improved the 8" Alpine OS. After watching this video I'm glad now I didn't buy a Rebel. Aesthetically, I think the 4th gen looks better and the cloth seats are surprisingly more comfortable than the leather ones which, are no longer an option in the 4th gen classic.

  • @jamesthomas9153
    @jamesthomas9153 Před rokem

    I have owned both 4th & 5th gen trucks but at lower trim levels. Both are 2wd quad cabs with the 5.7. The 4th gen was a 2012 ST Express. No infotainment system, just a radio with cd player. No cameras at all with front bench seat. Also had a six speed transmission with a column shift. The new one is a 2022 Bighorn with 8.4 screen, center console.
    I don’t have many of the features that you mentioned but they are things that I really don’t want. My new truck also has the 33 gallon tank and the 3.92 rear end. My two main things I really notice about the daily driving experience are the comfort of the seat. I really like the new one much more and it holds me firmly in place better. The other is the performance. With the taller axel ratio and the two more gears, it really is much quicker and gets better gas mileage as well.
    Only thing I really like about the 4th over the 5th gen in the quad cab is the under seat storage in the rear. There isn’t a bin underneath in the new one and I was forced to make one.
    But I really love them both.

    I had a 4th gen, 2012, for 4 yrs and now own a 5th gen. Both are 2wd quad cabs with 5.7 hemi. The 2012 had a 6 speed vs. the 8 speed in the new one. Both are great but, in contrast to you, I find the 5th gen to be more comfortable.
    The one negative about the 5th gen vs the 4th gen is the rear under seat storage. The 4th has a nice built in area to hold stuff but the 5th hasn't. I had to fabricate one myself out of wood and then my wife apolstered it.

    I had a 2012 4th gem Ram Laramie package, was a great truck, had only a few issues. I spent around $1,700 chasing around the EVAP problem causing a engine light (sensor), also I had it go into limp mode on me at around 50K miles, was only a $25 sensor. My 2021 5th gen Laramie Longhorn so far only has 32k miles, no issues yet. I have the Etorque option on mine. I notice I get around 20 mpg at highway speeds (around 62mph) and 15mpg in town (small town Iowa) not city. You can get 21mpg or more in you go 55mph, I cant. This is with a AFE Momentum cold air intake and a 91 octane Diablo tune. All in all, the 5th gen to me wins in: ride quality, torque(with Etorque), fuel mileage. Reliability is kind of a toss up with both trucks been low miles, 4th gen had 75k at trade in and only 32k on the 5th gen. Sound systems are very comparable, volume level 20 is the max you will go in either truck, only difference I really hear is that the 5th gen has better bass (uses two subwoofers instead of one). The 4th gen (Laramie) had a gross weight of around 6800lbs and the 5th gen (Laramie/Longhorn) is over 7100lbs. The 4th gen is older so its wins are going to be fewer but include: a higher ride height and maybe the most important one, looks. It's just hard to beat that classic body style. I wouldn't have the new body style if the interior didn't blow me away.

I also had both the exhaust issues with my 2 Rams (4th Gen bolts broke, 5th Gen just had both manifolds replaced). They dynamic headlights are heads and shoulders above the 4th gen headlights. My one major complaint for the 5th Gen was going to the smaller tire size. And lastly... in my state, if you leave the vehicle unattended while pumping fuel and the attendant see you doing this, they will shut the pump off. It's the law. I had a '14 Longhorn....really loved it, but got sick of sinking thousands into the air suspension. There is some things that seem a bit cheaper on my 22. The door panels in particular. I liked the layout of the door pockets better on the 4th gen and it felt sturdier as well. Also the sound system as mentioned. The sub was moved to behind the rear seats instead of under, which is nice for storage but not good for sound quality (too close to the back sheet metal and you can tell). Also, on the 4th gen longhorn the saddle bag pockets on the back of the front seats had flaps with a magnet under the belt buckle but on the new one it just looks like a flap but is just open above that like most seat pockets. Also, I had ram boxes with the longer bed which you cannot get on the 5th gen.

My 2011 F-150 Platinum leather driver seat finish wore out very fast, cracking and peeling (traded in for my new RAM, and glad I did for various other reasons). My 2020 RAM 5th gen Laramie leather seats appear much more durable with no discernable wear with low mileage so far. Umm... you do realize that there are signs that say not to leave your truck unattended while fueling... ur not supposed to lock in the trigger and walk in the store.
    My ex boss did that once... and the pump didn't trigger when it got full. About 50 gallons of Gas ended up going down the street into the Storm drain. Now, imagine what one semi lit cig butt could have done in that instance. He suggested for the station to call the fire department... ate the cost of the extra 50 gallons of gas and went on his way... guess there was no fire, since nothing was on the news. No clue if the gas station ignored the problem... probably did.
