Let's kick off a brand new season with a question... What truck do you own right now? (or trucks if you have more than one!!)
2019 trailboss and love it
2016 double cab z71.. you should look white automotive and the autosync unit. I prefer the roll cover.
GMC Sierra All Terrain. I have a Bacflip Rollex cover on it works great
'08 F150 bought brand new in cash...4.6 L, auto, crew cab, A/C, cloth, carpet delete...it's been the best all around truck I've ever owned...
2020 Toyota Tacoma Off-Road
I was convinced I wanted the second cover and kept trying to stash away extra money for one. After awhile I simply purchased the a model like the first one you installed in the video. It has been great. Never an issue, only leaks slightly in a high pressure car wash, never leaks in rainy situations at all. When I want full use of my bed it just comes off in like 5 minutes. One day I did an unplanned furniture purchase. Took off the cover behind the furniture store, put the two piece sectional inside, threw the folded cover in the back, and strapped everything down. So simple, flexible and easy. I would totally do the first option again and again knowing I never leave any valuables in the bed anyway.
How has it held up, also is the material thicker than it appears
@@travisa1326 Mine has held up very well in my opinion. In my neck of the woods we see High 90's in the summer and sometimes below freezing in the winter. It is starting to look a tad dull but I am sure a good cleaning and some treatment would make it shiny again. It is still leak free which amazes me. For the cost it looks like it will last over two years maybe closer to four. At that point if it got too weathered I would buy another one.
What model was it? Thanks!
@@SQTierHog It was a Tyger brand ordered through Amazon.
I was sold on a hard trifold until I saw how easy the soft one is to take on and off without any tools
I purchased the retractable cover for my F250. Having used it for a few years now, I’ve decided I’m going with option 2 (hard/fold) for my incoming pickup. The retractable version ended up being impractical, heavier, and took up too much bed space. Option 2 makes the most sense, especially with the ability to fold it all the way up while driving. Great review btw, you helped me firm up the decision.
This video is worth so much more than a thumbs up and subscribe.
I agree with you 2ND bed cover is the better choice, thanks for sharing this 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I have the 2nd cover on my Chevy Colorado. Use it constantly and it works like a charm. I can choose not to latch the last section or mid and last for bulky loads. Since you need access to the release cords once the tailgate is locked it's secure and out of sight gives peace of mind. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for this video!! I really needed to actually see how they really work !!! Thank you thank you!!!
Thanks for this review. It has made my decision a lot easier for which one I want installed on my truck. Definitely going with the 2nd option. I love how sleek it looks and still allows me to have bed rails installed. 😊
If not the best how to one of the best how to videos I have viewed on CZcams. Also an unbiased evaluation of the products . I ended up with an SFX since I do not want a full time cover. Saved me money and installation time getting a product I can take off when not required which is my situation most of the time. I am a supporting subscriber of Truck Central.
I have that Gator tri fold. It is awesome!
The $250 Gator trifold soft cover has been on my 2017 F250 for 3 years. It's been a great product and value
I've had varies covers for different trucks. I had a snap on cover for my Dodge Ram. That one was nice because it was easily removable. But in the winter months you had to take it off or on, I had to put it in the sun so it would stretch to snap it back on.
My 2nd cover was a roll top cover I had on my 2011 Silverado. It also was easy to take on and off (open and close). But I had issues with it leaking.
My 3rd cover I love the best, I bought a Diamond Back cover for my 2016 Silverado and this thing is tough. It's the most expensive but no leaks, and it's indestructible. It comes in 3 pieces, and it's held on with 4 clamps. There is video's out there that this cover is nearly impossible to break into. The HD Edition can hold up to 2500 lbs on top and you can still open your tailgate.
Great video guys. I've ordered from Real Truck before, and they are amazing.
Excellent video guys! You’ve helped me pick option #2 for my first truck.
Thanks very much, that was good information. It's nice to see how the install goes and your impressions.
The gator FX looks like the best of the 3. You can fold it all the way and you don’t sacrifice any space, great in depth review of the 3 options!!!!
@@oscarpacheco6838 any issues with the rubber on the sides weather cracking over time or folding it?
This ws a great video on a full description of the covers pros/cons. I like his honest opinion and not just selling the most expensive cover.
Thanks for the details. I had a low end soft cover that lasted about 4yrs until it blew off while driving high speed on a highway...yea, that happened. Fortunately, no one or thing was hurt. Now finding the "better" products on the market today are making it challenging to be satisfied due to a lack of them being 'simple'. Also, finding deck rail systems from the truck manufacturer are playing into the install and functionality of these current covers. May just stay with a cheap cover again. Easy install, full use of the stock deck rail, and easy to remove when needing the full bed....
Good comparisons! I like that you cover install/uninstall times. Don’t have a truck yet but still shopping and looking at various cover/rack options (and how much they weigh).
The cheapest one is perfect for the quick cover needed for here and there
The middle one is a backflip knock off. Nice cover. Those are the only ones I use.
An exact copy.
A well put together video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.👍
Excellent review. I actually bought the second and it was fantastic but after about 7 years the material between the metal sheeting started to get water logged to the point that it was extremely heavy to use. Framing also started to loosen up making it tougher to align to close. I do admit it was fantastic up to that point. Worked great for my fifth wheel and was easy to use and secure.
Great reviews with all information that clearly to understand. Thank you
Excellent idea for a video. I’ve been wanting a Locking tonOh cover or at a minimum a theft deterrent for stuff in the back if I have to stop en route to a customer.
But I like the GatorFX one best. The #2 It’s a great compromise of loss of bed area and a hard shell cover.
I've had a couple Truxedo soft roll up covers, never had any issues. I like the roll up kind because you always have easy access to the whole bed.
I'd pick the Gator ETX over the the tri fold model. It's at about the same price point. The thing I like about that one is it doesn't cover the stake pockets. I want to add bed rails to mine. The other 2 are made by the same company as BAK and Truxedo. If you watch videos for those, you'll see all of the rails and hardware are exactly the same.
Extang makes a lot of these behind the scenes.
Nice to see Gator products - USA made. Thanks for posting! #JTRSPARTACUS
Excellently done video! Explained each one thoroughly!
Love the video. I am looking for a bed cover, I would probably go with the first on.
Great review man. I can appreciate the time and effort it took to film this all day
Thank you for you views on these tonneau covers. I'v been wrecking my brain on which one to get and with your help I have chosen the FX model. I think that will be my best option for daily use. i wish you had an active discount code lol.
Great video man. Very informative and helped me decide which cover is best for me. Thanks
Just pick up a Diamondback SE. If you want to put a quad or something heavy on top of it, get the HD. You'll never want another cover.
Yeah nothing else compares to the Diamondback, 1600lb capacity
@@quadguy1470
Renegade supports 2,000 lbs with integrated track system.
Nicely done. I too prefer the 2nd tonneau cover b/c of price and ease of installation. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🙂
Excellent video, thank you!
I appreciate seeing all the different types. Thanks.
Great review!! Thank you
I purchased the fx Gator tri fold hard cover and I like it on my truck I don't have to pack the cab with groceries and tools 👍
I love my roll n lock. I keep tools back there at costed twice the bed cover so it’s nice having the security
Hey bro great video extremely helpful 👍🏻👊🏻
Awesome review brother. Thank you👌🏾🙏🏾👊🏾
For me it would have to be the 2nd one also because I have a toolbox in my 8ft bed so I need to have access to that plus it already limits what kind of cover I could put on.
Thank you for the great information ❤❤ I will go with the second tonneau cover !
I love my tri fold soft cover. It’s definitely worth the money and very affordable. I’ll probably the the hard folding for my next truck
Is your tri-fold water tight?
I have the gator soft folding (I think it’s the same one in the video) and it seems to be pretty water tight. I went on a 5 hour road trip and it was pouring rain the entire way and my luggage was dry when I opened the tailgate. There’s probably a couple spots where a little water could get in but it stays dry for the most part

I really enjoy my hard top trifold on my 5.5ft f150. Definitely the most convenient for my needs and with a locking tailgate, it's plenty secure.
Excellent comparison. Well done!
I agree the mid grade is the one i would pick also. I have a f150 with the 61/2 foot bed and looking for a cover. It came with one of those plastic bed inserts so not sure how this will seal with that installed. Great video and lots of good info.
Liked your review, thanks!!
Thank you for your hard work! Loved the video and I agree on your choice. I have a 2017 Titan I have to cover because I tow my RV and need protection from the elements and the greedy common public!
Thank you! this was very helpful
2nd one the best for sure
thanks for the info because i am not sure at all which one to get because there's so many choices and options.
Thanks for the info.
Great looking truck!
Awesome video.. where'd you get those carbon fiber letters?
The hard folding covers are the best in my opinion. If you have a locking tailgate they are very secure. Easy to open close and offer the most available bed space.
Awesome video! My favorite one is the second one
I have a 2022 Frontier Pro- X. I liked the second cover. Thank you for the information.
I agree the 2nd cover.
Ive had the first option for about 3 years now, its held up really well and doesnt leak at all. Its by Tyger but functions the exact same as the one you showed. Lightweight, cheap and easy to use. You cant go wrong with any of the three, just depends on your budget,
Is it pretty solid at highway speeds in terms of flapping in the wind? I never even thought of getting one of these but the ease of taking it completely on and off can be a huge benefit.
I really appreciate the review of all 3 covers. This will definitely help me make a decision on which type I should purchase. I love the last one because of low profile and ease of its retraction/folding. But the 2nd I like just as you stated because of getting full access of space of the truck bed as opposed to the last one where you lose a foot. Thanks again!!!
Thank you! Great video!
I'm a fan of the looks price and ease of use of the soft tri fold.
I had the 1st style a Tyger vinyl cover and the last but mine was a roll & lock. I liked both but the roll and lock was much cooler and better. The mid grade in the video looked very practical 👍
I have the Gator soft cover on my Tundra and it’s a good value for light usage.
Thank you sir, great video.
I love the second bed cover..
will it fit my 2021 ram crew cab?
I had the middle one. It was great but the stabilizer bars to hold it in full open position get sticky. I had to use pliers to loosen them up on occasion
Excellent Video. Thanks for the information and reviews
That was a very well made video. Thank you.
This video was great. Thank you helped to make a purchasing decision
Great video. Thanks. Very informative
😎🇺🇸 Hey Nick great review👍 I have the 3rd option that rolls not that basic model but mine is not water proof it will leak. I like the one you installed on your truck, have a great day ✌️
Thanks for the video... I´m in for getting a bed cover and I had seen the Gator models on Truck Central´s website... I thought I wanted the trifold but after your review now I know I want the trifold! I mostly want it to keep the leaves out of my bed and the occasional grocery run with my wife... (yes, if given the space she will fill a pickup at Costco). Great video!!! Oh, and I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with 62k miles and 2 light character scratches.
Very informative. Good thing I saw this, I'm in the process of purchasing a bed cover .for my real truck ( no 4 door grocery getter ) one cover I was looking at also was the diamond plated bed covers .it's more top of the line .has 2 fold. Side fold have you looked at those ? And a problem I'm having is my spare tire . I have 3 inch lift kit. Wider tires . Looked at tire mounts for inside truck beds but no way to lock the tire to rack other then using a chain, padlock thus defeating the purpose of a tire rack in my truck bed I can just chain it in the bed. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your video. I have a question about the Gator MX retractable. When your driving, can you hear it when you go over bumbs? Does it rattle?
I like the second one because you can use the full bed
Awesome video/info thank you
Hi, can you let me know where to get those clamps for the deck rail system? Thanks
I bought a new garage door for my small shop in my back yard. Weird size 20x18, got a new opener for it installed too, grand total 2100 bucks. 2 years ago now. Let that sink in
Great review. Thx.
you should check out fas-top, they make a great tonneau and have the option of having a soft-top topper that will stow away for a tonneau to cover it and can also be removed if you dont want it to take up the bed space. Best tonneau i've used, great for camping, hunting, fishing. etc.
Gator makes excellent covers. I've had a couple. Even the least expensive is American made and high quality for a reasonable price.
One thing I'd like to point out, is, for the hard folding cover, because it can only be opened from the inside it doesn't need it's own lock. The lock on the tailgate protects the latch, and therefore if your gate is locked so is your cover. It is plenty secure.
Sounds like your idea of plenty safe matches my idea of plenty safe. That works for me.
Good review bro! 2nd one will be the one for me as well.
What ir they make one of those soft top cover in that cut proof material of backpacks?
Great video. Thanks.
Is the second tonneau cover easy to take all the way off so like if I wanted to put my quad in the back?
Thanks for all the work you did to put this together..!!
I generally, only carry loose items, or maybe some weekend gear for camping or boating, so just being Out of Sight is good enough.. BUT if a boat or jet-ski is in tow... some people might get curious.
But as you sort of touched on, I carry motorcycles rather often. and they are pretty close to 7 feet long by the time you include the tires and wheels. So I NEED the full 6' 4" of length, even with the tail-gate down. So all of the space used to stow the fold-up and roll-up makes it next to impossible to get a street bike loaded. But the basic one, I can take off and lay it beside the bike(s) during transit. And I would not want to travel with the back window blocked, so I can not see the bikes. (I drive Semi's, buses, and lots of other vehicles, so I am very capable with mirrors. But I like to be sure that bikes are riding stable...
So your information is Very Helpful. Thanks again.
Bought me one today off your video. That’s great video
Great review. Thanks.
Great video nice job very informative.
I had the cheap gator trifold on my Ram and it was great, goes on and off in a couple minutes once you get good at it. Recently I bought a really cheap Tyger soft roll up cover for my Tacoma and it's way better built, easy to install, and never has to be taken off. I'm never spending $500-$1000+ on a bed cover, I'll stick with soft rollups from now on.
Got it. Before spending $1500 for a bed cover I would rather buy a cap.
Best video I’ve seen. Everything you said was directly related to the product and to the content of the video. You didn’t talk just because you could or to hear yourself talk. Very professionally done, Thanks!!
On the soft top Sfx when tailgate closed can the first fold still be opened?
I have putco bed rails already. Would this or any other tonneau cover work along with bed rails? The hand holds as you called them are where the bed rails go into and they are bolted from the inside of the bed by removing 4 of the plugs
Great video! You really helped make my decision. I'm downsizing from a Tundra to a Tacoma. I was really considering the retractable cover, however you really hit home the room I would lose if I did that. I'm already losing a sizable space from downsizing to a smaller truck. I will definitely be going with a tri-fold hard shell cover. Good job on your video and I'll be looking at the rest of your videos because of the good job you did on this one!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching! *Here is the follow-up video:* czcams.com/video/heiddsOH6og/video.html
Any recommendations on different price levels of covers for a 5'7 bed with RamBox and Mutifunction tailgate? I would really want to see that video!
Not sure about the rambox, but you can swap out the brackets in the bed and be able to install any cover with the multi-function tailgate. rightonbracket.com/product/ram-truck-bed-brackets/
What about tie down access for each model? Rails cover top tie downs? And inside tie downs especially with the roll up most expensive? And during install, if u have a bed liner insert(not spray on), does the Liner hinder install?
Thanks bro for make the video. I just brought a 2020 Silverado and looking for ways to customize it. I am looking for protection for the front. I already have a nick,
Thank you for this review
Nice info, thanks.
