But how could something as simple as a clown manage to get such strong opinions from people? In today’s episode we explore the long, dark, drunk, and complicated history of the clown. And I knew this story would be dark, but ooo boy, this was even darker than I expected.

I remember being a little kid and watching the tooth episode of Red and Stimpy. My depiction of the Tooth Fairy has always been that version, even now.
my grandma was a professional clown, she had two clown characters Zoe and Pearl. she actually went to clown college and would perform at children’s hospitals. she was honestly the reason clowns don’t scare me at all, she was such a light and just wanted to make people happy.

Aw so sweet!!!!! I actually cannot stand clowns and am deathly afraid of them because I saw a clown catch on fire at Ring ling bros when I was a young kid. After that I cut up my clown doll that I got from the show 😂
Well I think she might’ve worked with my “mom” as clown names and makeup are generally trademarks that aren’t duplicated but 🤷🏼♀️
That sounds accurate. I have a huge fear of clowns. It could be a decoration and I'm still afraid of it. On the flip side if I know the person when they are not in their clown costume and I see them I'm okay. I just have to no the true face behind the makeup🤷🏿♀

Has anyone ever suggested the “troubled teen” industry as a topic for dark history? I saw a few survivors speak about the experience on tik tok and would love to hear Bailey talk about it.
I had no idea the troubled teen industry existed until I was locked in a car and drove 3 hours into the Utah desert in 2017. It definitely needs to be talked about more

The docu that Paris Hilton did about it was really gripping and insightful, it's terrible but I think it is important to raise awareness about it
In my town in 2016 clowns were running around with knifes and would sometimes chase people... it was actually a really scary time

Yeah at that time I had an ex who forced me to get into mma just because of the clown epidemic and that was also how I learnt I can hide weapons on my body, all thanks to him keeping myself safe is as easy as eating

My dad was a clown! He did kids' parties and any community functions and we loved watching him get dressed. It's why I love clowns and love watching them. I've done clown classes as well because I loved clowning. One of the things I learned that makes a clown funny is that they try so hard to be as normal as those around them but fail every time. I also learned that the red nose is the smallest mask in the world. Clowns Without Borders also does some brilliant work in crisis areas to bring laughter and joy to those who have been displaced and are experiencing hardship. Clowns are not the scary horror-show characters theyve been made out to be in recent decades.

Fun fact : There is a school for clowns. My dad was a firefighter and wanted to be a clown for burned victims, so he went to clown school. I still think its werid to this day but it made him and the others happy. IDK
Years ago I took a clown class through the community classes.... it was very interesting as we learned about the history of clowns... samples...Red Skeleton... Lucille Ball... only to name a couple...best class ever 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

My town had a clown panic in 2016. Freshman year of high school and it was all people could talk about. Couple of people almost ran into a couple clowns in the road. They almost put a curfew out cause of it.😂

My uncle went to clown college. Rest his soul . He was in the circus and everything. I think he did the acrobatics as well.
I remember when they clown craze of 2016 happened, I dressed up as a clown the same year and my mom told me, “If you go out there like that you’re going to get shot.”

One of my favorite memories was my mama's obsession with clowns. Porcelain, ceramic, and doll clowns. She had one creepy clown with sharp teeth, an axe, and was smiling with blood. She kept it in a drawer, but I loved it.
I went to a clowning school, they're underrated honestly. I also learnt puppetry there, a lot of the things they taught are helping me as a teacher 🤷♀️😂

So Learnt and learned are two different spellings of the past tense of the verb “learn,” which means “gain knowledge or skill” or “come to be able to do something.” The spelling tends to vary based on whether you use US or UK English: In UK English, “learnt” is standard. I would love for you to do video on Saartjie Bartman for your dark history. She was a Khoikhoi woman from South Africa in the 19 century. She had a horrible life, she was literally exhibited because of her body. Her remains were only buried in 2002.

Watching this at night with a phobia. How fun.
In 2016 I got a phone call that they were locking my daughters elementary school down because a man dressed as a clown holding a machete was seen in the neighborhood right across The street from the school. The police were called and they looked everywhere for the man but could not find him. The police/school did not want children walking home so they told everyone you have to come pick your kid up. The school stayed open until 7 PM so that parents that were stuck at work could get their kids. I thought it was A big joke, like some kid was saying this to get out of a test. But the next day, one of my friends who lived in that neighborhood showed me a picture of the clown man right outside her house. I live in Houston Texas and apparently multiple clowns were seeing all around Houston that week
