    Mark Gatiss does a great job portraying Sir John Gielgud. Very similar :)

      You're right! What an iconic role - to portray the greatest Shakespearian actor in the history! Hope he wins an Olivier this year!

    This isn't really one of the better scenes. But the play is so magnificent, if you've not seen it get yourself there.

    Again. Another fabulous clip. You know you're watching the ultimate pros when things are this funny, beautiful, clear, well positioned, timed impeccably using just normal unoffensive language. Because It's hard to find writers and actors who can set off fireworks using just clean well written script without the need to throw in vulgarity or coarse language. Loved it. Thank you for sharing this clip. It was a piece of art. (And we all recognize the beautiful lighting, costume, make up camera work and chemistry too. Well done)

      I agree with all the above. A work of Art. Fortunately we had the play ..ultimately filmed.. then streamed to Australia.

    Will there be an NT recording of The Picture of Dorian Gray? Probably too early to ask and I’m assuming if there is one it won’t release until next year, but thought I’d ask anyway

      I don’t think the NT is involved in that production?

    Was Sam Mendes commissioned to write Lehman Trilogy?

    I'm guessing this is supposed to be Elizabeth Taylor.

      It's the National Theatre- just be glad Liz wasn't portrayed by Idris Elba. You know- diversity is their delusion!

    Elizabeth Taylor didn't have this undefined southern accent. She was born British. Why is it that Brits would think that some vague drawl equals an authentic Hollywood Americanized British accent? You'd think the actress playing Taylor would at least mimic her diction, say, in Cleopatra?

    • @lynndenault4212
      @lynndenault4212 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Bad accent for ET

    • @patylombard6991
      @patylombard6991 Před 2 měsíci

      Exactly! Elizabeth Taylor's voice was so identifiable; nothing here is even vaguely reminiscent. Good grief. Truly awful!

    Yes, I believe she is meant to be Elizabeth Taylor - a pale facsimile, in this scene. Where is her charm, and her larger than life exuberance?

    Rather underwhelming trailer. But then the theatre never comes alive in two dimensions.

    • @mattw8374

      "Theatre never comes alive in two dimensions " I presume your statement refers to the medium(filmed compared with live theatre) as opposed to the acting. Nevertheless a debatable conjecture, and I would argue, too complex too be so definitive.
