- Firstly I meant to say 120cm not 120mm sorry it's 120cm in width...
This is a door canopy bought on eBay for £19 including postage..this is how I fitted it - Jak na to + styl
Firstly I meant to say 120cm not 120mm in the Video sorry it's 120cm in width...
Came with no instructions, no foil tape. Bolts were mystery - even after several YTvids. YOU explained that & other details. Best video I found. Thorough & good pedagogy. You could be a teacher. Thanks.
Thanks..when I make my "How To" videos I film them in real time, has I do the job, I try and say the things I am doing in simple tearms..in a way I see them..they are not slick or proffesional ..but I think thats the best way to make them.. I so glad it helped you..
Brilliant video - just bought one of these canopies and this is really helpful learning how to fit it properly. I didn’t even know anything about the special fixing screws so this really helped me get my head around that and the template idea is so helpful as I have a 2m canopy to fit so your method will make it much easier and will get it up perfectly fitted. Thank ever so much.
Very helpful video. The wooden template with drilled holes is an excellent idea which made the installation sooo much easier and fail proof!
Sellotaping the spirit level, also an excellent idea which helped a helluva lot!
Also, I like the explanation of how those expansion bolts worked.
Thank you for sharing your ideas.
Great video!!
Brilliant
Just bought one of these and the instructions don’t show how to put it up, your video was extremely helpful..thanks for posting it
I'm glad you found it of some use..
Excellent. You work the same way I do.
I have onset dementian so saving ideas like this is very helpful to me.
I've got a 3 metre one of these to put up, 3 separate sections, and that template idea will massively help.
Template idea brilliant, just fitted ours, took an hour from opening the box. Easy. Thanks
+Nigel Staffiere brilliant glad it helped you
Hi just saw your video....and I must say it is by far the best and easiest way to put it up. Top man!! Stay safe
Thanks..
Thank you for tips, putting mine up in the morning.
Hi Andy, thanks so much for your instructions. I followed step by step and was able to complete the job successfully. I bought our single door canopy for $60, Melbourne, Australia, postage included. Looks good. Thanks again, Chris.

thats a great idea...thank you for sharing the video
Roman Paul Hi, thanks for watching i hope you find it useful
You saved my sanity and my son from killing me. We have a 10 foot awning (4 brackets, 3 panels). It came with lame instructions and none for securing it to siding.
We put it together first, then tried to mark the holes by holding it up and marking the siding. It was horribly awkward and one end fell off despite my caulking the panels to each brace. We laughed a lot.
But seriously, the panels aren't secure and easily come unseated. So we'll take your advice from another video and use caulk in the bracket channels to secure each panel.
Our panels were cheap and came in 2 sections that were spliced together with a plastic bracket. Don't get those! The corrugated panels should all be one piece.
I'm ditching the cheap panels and buying corrugated sheets from the hardware store.
I've never used those anchors so thanks for showing how you installed them.
Very good video!
Brilliant lol..
You sir are the man!! Thanks
great video- thanks -I'm about to put a canopy up myself.
Great Stuff let me know how you get on..thanks
Thanks for this video. I have just bought one and this will help me to make a good job of fitting it. They say that the instructions that come with it are not up to much. CHEERS!!
Nice one..glad it will help you
@@BitsPieces Yes! I got it installed today, thanks. However, the kit did not include the 4 plastic bolt covers. Can you tell me what size covers that you used on yours. The bolts were the same size as yours 10mm.
Cheers!!
@@thomasharper1751 Hi, they came with it..I'm not sure if you can buy them separately..try pianting the bolt heads with some black paint and a little artist's type brush if you get stuck..
@@BitsPieces Thanks... was looking on Ebay and found them there. Only problem is, what size to get. Will have to buy some, and just chance my luck. Bit of a bummer not including them with the canopy. Good idea, painting them. Will do that if I'am stuck. Thanks a lot for your help. Cheers!!
@@thomasharper1751 I think if they say they are for 10mm bold heads I think you should be ok.
You did well. I can not screw into the holes and did not grip into the wall. How can I fix it?
Thx for posting, gave me confidence to do it myself. You didnt mention you had a cup of tea around to help think things through ! :-) . Maybe add how it fared through the winter ? I want one to stop me getting dripped on as I unlock the front door, so maybe I'll find one with a lip on the front edge to direct water off to the side.
And biscuits 😆
Nice work Andy. Looks good
Thanks Brendan
Best template ever…
Thanks
Brilliant solution! I'm going to use it to install mine!
Hi,thanks for watching
I used your idea of the drilling jig board and the mounting holes came out perfect as well as the rest of the installation! Thanks!
Brilliant
Thank you for sharing this video! I didn’t know how to use that installation screw until I saw this! I thought they gave the wrong screws!
Hi glad the video helped you out..thanks for watching
Spot on video 👍
Very helpful 👌
good work
good job mate
Big Gaz thanks Fella
Belting tips on the installation pal. After reading the comments. I will also be gluing the parts together for extra rigidly. Storm damage prevention. Good idea using the wooden jig. Perfect drill holes. Bet you were well chuffed after installation.
Dig-it Dan nice one ..glad the video was of some use for you
Outstanding
Thankyou , for that. I am now just unsure how the princpal of the bolt works as it currenty stands the 10mm bolt just loosely slides in and out of the hole i drilled, therefore I am unure why the need to hammer in .
Also since the bolt doesnt stick in the 10mm wise hole i am unsure how ot would tighten
That's because, eventhough you have used the right drill size you have probably pulled it in and out to many times has you drilled and made the hole too big. Try putting a little bit of tape around the bolt fixing, to make it a little tighter when you put it in the drilled hole. And then tighten the bolts to fix the canopy to the wall..look at the video again, I do explain how the bolts work
I switched out the dynabolts for galvanized screws and plugs, have had them rust and blow out the bricks before
cool vid mate well done
Thanks for watching
Great work !
What did you use to seal the gap between the wall and the canopy ?
I Used a window/door frame sealer available from many stores cheaply
good idea
Good job. A bargain too
nice video mate. cheers👍
Daniel Burke Hi, thanks for watching
Thanks. I was looking to find what size drill bit to use for the anchor bolts. The instructions that came with my pack didn't have it.
Same + how deep do you drill holes ?
Did you find out?
@@lomein9320Did you find out?
Nice job
Thanks
Hi, how long does the drill hole need to be for the bolts to go through, also is it 10 mm drill bit i uses ?
The drill holes need to be a little longer then the fixing bolt plugs
Please advise how wide and deep the drill hole needs to be for the bolts to go in thanks
The drill bit I used was 10mm
Wondering are these awnings, cheaply made, wondering how long rhe woild last in the outdoor elements
+Donald Fouce i have mine up since making this video and apart from cleaning it, its still like new
I read your responses and found that you used a 10 mm bit for the hole. I'm assuming that the bracket screws should be snug with putting them in the hole in order for it to expand properly. Am I correct? In addition, what if you are attaching to a mobile home?
Yea, but the bolts do expand in the drilled holes, if you find they are a little slack, you can use masking tape on them, to make a temporary snug fit, the tape will break once you start to tighten them up... regarding your other question, that's one thing you would have to work out for yourself, the bolts with these canopies are long, so I would presume they would be too long for your mobile home walls and would come through the thin walls. I would probably recommend not having one of these attached to your mobile home.
Do you have strong rainstorms where you live? I am considering buying one of these but I live in Florida, worried about durability.
Robert Kreidell Hi..here in the UK we have all sorts of weather ..it can get very windy where I live ..so far my canopy as lasted .. you will have to make your own mind up if they will be suitable for your use
Nicely done, I've just got one and will be putting it up tomorrow, now where's that bit of wood.......
LoL..search for your wood?
What size drill bit did you use to make the holes? Excellent video btw
The drill size bit I used for this particular canopy was 10mm....of course, some may come with different bolt sizes.
Thanks 👍🏾
did you seal the edges of the polycarbonate sheets with tape or silicone before you put it together, cheers
HI, personally, I did not seal it.But, can not see why it would be problem if you did.
Thank you...can you tell me how wide the door is... How did you know what size canopy to order
Hi.. Just measure the width of your door gap from the outside and then add around 15 cm (8-10inches) depending on how big you want it to cover.
Thank you so much. I tried to install mine today but got stuck with the screw to the wall part. Can’t figure out how to use that kind of screw. I finally gave up. Tomorrow, I’ll get back on it and hoping I don’t need my husband’s help. 😅
Good luck to me.
Good luck 👍
Thanks for the vid cheers mate
Troy Reynolds Thanks I'm glad you found it helpful
Bits & Pieces just had ours delivered today a double canopy so fingers crossed it will go up like yours
Troy Reynolds I think the principle will be pretty much the same
It will be very help full if you have add the drill bit size you use to make the holes
No point, some canopies will come with different size bolts..but for this model the drill size was 10..thanks
i just install ome today 190cm wide very tiring lol, its also for the dog
How did this handle uk stormy weather. I am debating getting one but not sure how strong they are?
Mines still up and strong 3 years later..
Can also use masking tape instead of wood. I've always used this method for hanging picture frames.
If it works for you, then yes
What kind of bolts are those?
Do you know if I can trim the side of the canopy to better fit my door frame?
Syed Ahmed I do not think yiu can..but you can get smaller sizes so that might be better
Did you put any kind of sealer between the canopy and the brick wall.
I did, because there was a small gap
What is the size of the drill bit yo use? How deep do you drill holes?
On this canopy the drill size was 10 and the length of the drill holes will obviously just be a bit deeper than the bolt holder
Can you combine more than one kit to make a bigger awning?
I do not see why not..but you can buy bigger sizes anyway.
will those bolts work on plywood and would this canopy work on aluminum siding?
antlou123 if you mean you are fixing the canopy to a wall made of ply wood then no they will not do the job properly as the bolts are made for brick or concrete use or a solid structure you would have to use alternative fixing
antlou123
What kind of mounting hardware for vinyl siding?
Would you know what size the bolts are? I’ve ordered one of eBay but none of the fixings were included.
Hi, sorry I can not remember , I fitted this a few years back.. Contact where you purchased it from and asking them..The bolt head size was 10mm and I would say the length was around 100mm
Would it be the same principle if I purchased a 6 foot or 8 foot one ?
Yea..just might be a bit more difficult if you are doing it on your own because of the larger size..like holding it in place.
If you can't attach them, you can use them as hang gliders.
How does it hold up with the weight on snow on it?
Fine..mines been up for years now..I mean it every summer
What are they like in a wind?
Mine and my sisters have been up now for years without any problems
Does the door open as it should ??? you didn't show that part
Of course..
Hi do you need plugs in holes
No, the bold do that as they expand
Got a Link to where this is on eBay?...Do they sell a tinted plexi-glass version?...That clear one must look a bit grubby very quickly and probably scratches every time you clean the top side of it too.
MJ H no link sorry just search ebay ..not sure about other versions as not looked ..thanks
nice jod
Thanks
Where can you get It
This was bought on Ebay..thanks
i was a bit scared for a second that he might try drilling into the lintel
How do you know all this stuff lol
Wysiwygnuttyjo51 I just make it up as I go along Jo 😆
Whatever you are doing, it's working 👍👍👍
Goodness gracious!! I have a hard time understanding what he says!!!
Look for a similar video you can understand ..thanks
do not bother, i bought one 150cm width. first real storm we had the panel blew out. i put it back, next time we had a storm it blew out again. waste of money.
dugsey yes you get what you pay for..if you home gets lots of storms and winds and is open to the elements then you would probably be best building a strong wood canopy
Why didn't u just use the cardboard for template 😆
You use it next time then..job done .
How much cost?
This was £19 from ebay
Pl send mail ID or contact no
I’m hoping that bowl of nasty water isnt for your pup
Good idea but I'm sorry to say your house need a good scrub.
