I will not be surprised if they are not going to be able to salary dump him in a trade, they will buy him out to clear some cap space. He will be gone next year along with Lafferty, Cole, Bleuger and maybe Myers.... and if Hronek doesn't ask for ridiculous amount of a raise (which he does not deserve considering his poor playoff performance and latter half of the season... it will either be arbitration or a trade for him).... Don't underestimate the management group, who pulled some rabbits out of their hat last off-season. I suspect there will be a few more smart additions, including someone to play with Petey that can actually... tap a puck into an empty net, or set Petey up some tap ins himself. I ultimately think that the Canucks need to be careful about over-paying their depth guys that had huge seasons. If they can get hometown discounts on some of them, they should keep them, but they can't take on huge contracts on the guys they had this season that played above expectations. Tocchet and team can likely shine up some other rough-around-the-edge players as well, right? Don't overpay and we might have a great season next year as well.

    Why didn't Vancouver play the first 2 periods like the last 8 minutes? Probably because the Oilers weren't sitting back with a 3 goal lead. After it was 3-2, I don't know if Vancouver got another shot while trying to save their season. Vancouver was outplayed 6 of the 7 games even with McDavid battling injury. Skinner fell apart this series and that's why it went 7 games.
    Although if Demko were healthy, who knows.

    • @joelface
      @joelface Před měsícem

      Keep in mind that the Canucks style and the Oiler's style kind of exaggerated that effect. The Canucks often hang around it games with fewer shots and have late comebacks, etc. They can do it, regularly, and did it all year. BUT... I do think that you're right, especially in game 6 and 7 that the Oilers found another gear while the Canucks just couldn't match it. A lot of the blame is on the Canucks themselves for not making the right adjustments to enter the zone, not making sure they hit the net when the chances were there... etc. But my takeaway from the series in general was that the Oilers were able to draw on their playoff experience and depth to overwhelm the shut-down style the Canucks were attempting to win with.

    From the beginning, I’d said I’d be happy if they make the playoffs, which they did as pundits all agreed that they would be a team fighting for a wildcard spot. Well, they did more than that during the regular season and came first in their division. In fact, they were at the top of the league for a few weeks so making the first round not because it crawled tooth and nail to win a playoff wildcard spot is already a bonus for me, never mind reaching the second round losing in seven games to one of the pre season favorites to win the cup. (Remember how 23 out of 24 ESPN guys picked the Oilers to walk all over the Canucks?) Yes, expectations from plenty of people changed during their totally unexpected successful season. But not for me. Anything past any round is just another added bonus for me.
    Pettersson is a head-scratcher. I totally disagree with people who are said he didn't show up but yes, you'd hope that he can be a difference maker. I don't know if Oilers fans said the same about McDavid in this series - held to no shots in a couple of games and few points in the series. We will see how he and the Oilers do against Dallas as the physicality of this series will take a toll on them and Dallas has a longer rest. Back to Pettersson though, I think this series is good for him because things seem to go his way ever since his broke into the league. Remember his sly smile when he scored in his first game. Even the team didn't do well, his play has not been one to be criticized - until now. We shall see what he has learned from this playoff experience, hoping of course he will be a much better player that he already is like Hughes has done when he was manhandled by Vegas in the bubble playoff series and was visibly upset and frustrated.

    Great season, far exceeded expectations. Demko was not the reason we didn't go further, this teams inability to get shots on net, score goals and a horrendous powerplay is the reason we lost this series. Canucks held a lead for like 2 mins this entire series. If it weren't for shaky Edmonton goaltending the first few games, we would have been lucky in win 1-2 games. Love this team, love the season they had but let's be real here, they did not play well in the post season and struggled to put a full 60 minute effort together. The comebacks were amazing to watch, but this team was winning by the skin of their teeth too often. Can't wait until the last 5 mins to push back every game - going to bite you eventually.

      It's possible that we were somewhat playing to protect our backup goalie rather than taking the kinds of offensive chances we might have had the nerve to take with a vezina-nominated goalie between the pipes. Yes, Silovs was making some crazy ten-bell saves, and was NOT why they lost... but I do think the Canucks may have had a better shot with him in net.. and since we ultimately lost game 7 by 1 goal... it's crazy to think it couldn't have made the difference.

    • @bigamigo4863
      @bigamigo4863 Před měsícem

      @@joelface No, they had confidence in Silovs. That would mean that they weren't playing to win, they were playing not to lose. That also doesn't explain the awful powerplay either, not having your starting goalie wouldn't cause your shots to go down by 30-40% from the reg. season -let's not forget Demko was injured during the reg. season too - shots and goals didn't fall off - in fact they went up. not an excuse. Strange use of your time, as an Oil fan, to watch a local Vancouver radio show interviewing a former Canuck player, after your team is moving on to the Conference finals. Grow up and look ahead to the next series instead of being a lousy winner.

    So when Connor Brown...a guy that went over 60 GAMES WITHOUT A GOAL misses....it was a brilliant save by Shilovs?
    But when a guy like Mikheyev does not score, Skinner is just lucky?....Oh Boy John, how do you do it?

      the difference is Brown actually made Silovs make a save, Mikheyev didn't even put the puck on net for Skinner to have to make a save. Didn't you watch the game?
