- Which is the best hot dog ever? That is what we will find out today with this taste test and between all the mayor hot dogs and wieners brands in the market. Nothing screams backyard summer grilling like a good old fashioned hot dog. Well, we decided to put some of the top names in hot dogs to the ultimate taste test and decide which was our favorite. Ron grilled up 7 of the top names in hot dogs on the Big Green Egg. They each had surprisingly different flavors but only one could reign supreme as the King of the Dogs! Which one came out on top? You’ll just have to watch the video and find out for yourself!

Nathan's for the win.
Oscar Mayer does make a beef wiener
@@FOGOcharcoal *eats hot dogs raw regularly
I've been a meat dept manager for over 20 years and I can say that ALL hot dogs are cooked, unless otherwise stated. I've never seen a raw hot dog. What he should have said is you should cook thoroughly to kill any potential contaminants.
You are 100% correct Brake. My bad...
Usually Listeria
I figured the guy was wrong I sorta knew all hotdogs are cooked.
if they weren't cooked they would come back to life during shipping.
Is Brake your real name?
In the 80's we ate hotdogs straight from the fridge or freezer. I know it sounds gross but my siblings, cousins, neighbors and myself all lived. We also all survived drinking from the hose.😂
drinking from the hose never tasted good.
Same! And no seat belts, riding 4 ppl in the front seat of pickup trucks, and standing up riding in the truck beds, and cribs and playpen with bars far enough apart to fit a tiny head thru, painted with lead paint!
Me too
Yup, run in dripping wet from the sprinkler or kiddy pool.grab one and some grape coolaid and run back out to run in the sprinkler
Sure, probably rode a bike with no helmet too....LOL
The best are a small regional brand called Zwiegals from Western New York. Natural skin casing, all beef with no fillers. Top notch.
Agree! I lived in Syracuse for nearly 5 years, and Zweigle's hot dogs were the absolute best for me, too. I received so many compliments on the hotdogs during cookouts and everyone wanted to know what brand they were so they could buy them too.
Thank you!
There was a hot dog place Colonie Center in Albany in th 70's.
It was STUNNING.
I have tried find thname of that hot dog place never did.
@TOPMOSTPOP That's interesting. I lived in Latham in the 90's. Troy had a couple classic places.
Is Nathan's Famous still top tier..?
Nothing can beat a natural casing hotdog 😊!
Sabretts w/casings. ABSOFNLOOTELY
Vienna hotdogs 🌭
Agree
Natural casing hot dogs/sausages are the ONLY way to go. Got to be beef. Having chili cheese dogs for dinner!
@@littleolme4521 I've chili dogs. I periodically make and freeze my own hot dog chili.
No Chicago or Michigan hot dogs? Unforgivable! Nothing like a Vienna or a good Koegel's!
Koegel's is the best. In fact, I lived in Michigan, but moved to another state, and couldn't get Koegle's. Every time I went home to visit, I'd stock up. Pretty soon, everyone I knew would ask me to bring them a few packs too. Best damned hot dog I've ever eaten. Compared to Kogel's, Nathan's is like eating your tongue.
Koegel's pickled bologna is amazing as well.
Ok, I just moved to Michigan 2yrs ago and have never tried those. I will have to get some this week.
Thank you cause that's the only reason why I even clicked on this one... it's koegel or I'm good ahh I already ate before I showed up...
Kent county food's, (Gand Rapids Mi) dog's/sausages sold under GFS and other brand's are as good as Koegel, it's all about that snap. They also make store brand's like Der Wienerschnitzel in Cali.
If you boil try this, put dog/sausage/brats in cold water. Bring to a rolling boil, turn off at let sit 6 mins. Plumps and enhances them.
My mom was in the hospital once and my dad was in charge of 4 kids and meals. He decided to make us eggs and sausage for breakfast but didn't even know he used hot dogs for the sausage! Lol we loved it! ☺️👍
Ha!!! That is a great story!!!
That's a good one for the struggle. Also got a lot of beanie weenies or macaroni cheese mix loved it is as much as any eight-year-old could love something!
I still eat hot dogs cut up and fried with eggs, got it from my Dad also.
Tear up pieces of bread and toast in a skillet, fry hot dogs pieces in same skillet with the bread, butter, pour in beaten eggs and make just like you would soft scrambled eggs, add a little cheese if you like and throw it under a broiler for a couple minutes.
It's basically a hot dog frittata.
A simple version is to just add eggs to the fried hot dog pieces in a small skillet and flip for over med eggs, makes a good sandwich on toast.
@@johnsheetz6639 Do you remember Ghetto Spaghetti? Simply spaghetti with chopped hot dogs and any tomato sauce. Back in the 70s
it was Armour Hot Dogs which for a snack you could eat them raw. But at the state institutions I grew up in and the rare weekend visit home
this is what was given to us from time to time. To gild the lily we of course put Parmesan cheese on top.
He knew.... and he also knew you kids would love his fained ignorance...
I always go back to the Ball Park beef. They never disappoint.
Did you say NEVER or ALWAYS?
😂😂😂😂 dood
Hoffman hotdogs are the superior hot dog from NY state. Oh thanks for the like man. Your video popped up on my feed and I enjoyed it just sucks you had so many NY state made brands and Hoffman got left out. We personal sell Hoffman dogs when we do food events because we enjoy a dog with more pork in the blend.
Hi Brice, welcome aboard! We used what they sell on the shelves down here in S Florida. I would have to check but I think that we used them in our part II hot dog video.
"Is there such thing as a bad hotdog?" Yeah, a Bar S hotdog.
I totally agree! We buy them for the kids to roast (burn) over the campfire and the adults enjoy quality hotdogs cooked on the grill.
Amen. They don't even brown/grill/cook like other hot dogs. And the taste.. yikes... water and some kind of other weirdness..
@@jasonmiller6371 why would you do that to your kids don't they deserve better🤔
@@anthonylucero6458 Yeah, you're probably right, they usually just burn them black over the campfire, but I will be a better Dad and at least buy them Oscar Meyer in the future! Thanks for setting me straight!😆😆
Bar S is nasty. Someone brought them once and I would never use them again.
Yes, hot dogs are definitely cooked. I know because I operated the smokehouse for Cudahy Foods in Atlanta, GA back in the '70's. The cooking process for our average-sized hot dogs was for an hour and fifty minutes.
The first 20 minutes of the process, the dogs were cooked at 120 degrees. Then, they were automized with liquid smoke at room temperature for 20 minutes. After the dogs were darkened and flavored with the smoke, they cooked for 20 minutes at 140 degrees. The next 20 minutes, they were cooked at 160 degrees. And the next 20 minutes, they cooked at 180 degrees.
At that point, they were checked with thermometers by Moi and a government inspector to see if they had reached 160 degrees on the inside of the hot dog. If so, they were rinsed for 10 minutes, weighed, combined on three tree racks, and stored in the blast freezer.
Hot dogs bin vedy vedy good to me. 🙂
Yes sir, you are absolutely correct, my bad. The info I was given was misconstrued. Sorry about that. The last line of your comment made me laugh!
@@FOGOcharcoal Thanks, FOGO! Loved the contest! I just wished we had your top two contenders here in the Southeast. They'll probably be here soon, now that you're spreadin' the word. 🙂
If hot dogs weren’t cooked I would have died 35 years ago
Yep, all of those brands come fully cooked.
They are baloney shaped like hotdogs
Sabrett's are pretty good but Sahlen's will always be the best - especially well done with the natural casing. Can't be beat.
Never heard of that company. Curious, which part of the country is that? I’m in the Cincinnati area. They think Queen City sausage is good out here. Hard pass unless you’re into salty dogs and sausages. Every time I have had them that’s all I can taste.
Sahlen's are from Buffalo, NY. We used to have to bring some down with us but now they sell them at Harris Teeter and I hear other places as well. You can't beat a Sahlen's on the grill - well done!@@robertfridley280
@@robertfridley280Sahlen’s is Western NY/Buffalo NY
Sabrett's also has natural casings, they're just harder to find.
@@tubebubereboot6873 Sabrett's are hard to find in my area, but worth the search. I got turned onto them by a street vendor who was originally from New York and only sold Sabrett's.
I had fun watching. I love eating hotdogs with friends and family. Everyone has fun and talks about good times.
Most hotdogs say "fully cooked" right on the packaging. Even if they dont, I've yet to encounter a packaged hotdog that hasn't been pre cooked.
Thanks Charles, we appreciate the input!
To be a "hot dog" the link must be smoked over hardwood, hence the pre-cooking.
good cuz i used to eat them raw as a kid
Yes, hotdogs are cooked before packaging. At least the misinformation didn't go the other way.
Correct!
Since you could identify many of the hotdogs by how they fit into the bun, to be less influenced, try a piece of hotdog from each, cut to the same size in the middle of the bun.
...Or a blindfold
@@lizard944 He cooked them, so he could guess the brands by their size and grill marks. The test should have been done with a blindfold and a two inch piece of dog with no bun.
@@SidneyChism Agree 100% He should've had someone else prepare the product and had no involvement in that. Also have them do the labeling and accounting which she failed the first time she said, "I think it was this one." Don't people realize how serious some of us take our hotdogs?..LOL
Yeah, why even include the bun in the first place at that point?
Snap-O-Razzo hotdogs are the best but a bit expensive with shipping, but I highly recommend them. A nice treat every once in a while. As for supermarket dogs, Natural Casing Sabrett's are hard to beat. Nathan's Bigger than the Bun is a very close second.
Hey Ron !! great job bro ! Kudos from Flagler Beach ! DC
My man Dave!!! I hope all is well my friend!
Koegels hot dogs from Flint Mi , Vienna hot dogs from Chicago and Hoffey’s from Vegas are best I’ve ever tasted .
With Koegels the No 1 choice
From Flint Michigan, and the BEST!!!
(Don't worry, they've ALWAYS had a separate water supply from that of the infamous Flint Water debacle)
Their entire product line is outstanding.
Koegel's is the best.
I live in Florida but every year I fly home and bring back at least $100 worth of koegels anybody who has ever had one says they're the best the viennas are we called Snap dogs there is a koegels truck that travels up and down i75 and comes close to where we live every year but the prices are about double what you can get in the store like Meijer's my friend from Chicago always said his favorite was Vienna but now that he had koegel he said they're better
Grew up 25 miles west of Flint. Nothing better than a Koegel Vienna!
Koegels Vienna are my favorite as well.
Having grown up in Buffalo, NY we always said we had one of the best Hot Dogs in the land. Thanks for confirming this Go Sahlen's
They are so good!
Sahlens natural casing weiners are the best hot dogs on Earth. None of the others can compare!
Leave Buffalo come to Rochester and get a Zweigles pop open. They make your crapy dogs look like sticks.
@@wendull811 I love them BOTH!
Vienna forever

Este video crece y crece porque es muy bueno. Gracias FOGO por tanto amor 💘
You are welcome and thank you for always watching!
Most hot dogs ARE fully cooked, and completely edible straight from the package.
This was a great test. Made me VERY hungry!!!
If I can find them, I will have to try Sabrett's, your "winner".
I personally love all hot dogs, too, some just more than others.
NATHAN'S is far and away my favorite,
do not care much for Sahlen's, although I have easy access to them from Gordon"s.
Here in Michigan,
Dearborn brand,
Koegel's brand,
and
Winter's brand
are 3 of most people's top-runners. There are many other prominent sausage makers here in MI.
Nathan's wasn't purveyed around here much before 2000, but has attained my "most craved hot dog" status - Lol
Thanks for the tasting test, Sabrett's it is!! Next on the list
I agree about Nathan's. When I was younger I remember my first Chicago Dog. I immediately tasted the difference. My personal favorite hands down.
I don't know if you can get Sabrets in AZ do you?
I'm with you, Bob. Nathan's 1/4 pound hotdogs are my favorite.
Sabretts are amazing.
Wait, so are you saying you don't have Nathans nearby? They're sold all over south east Michigan.
Would be a kicker to include those Costco All Beef Dogs in there. They have a deep beefy flavor that is hard to match although the Nathans WITH all natural casings are darn good too. Our go to dog are the Hebrew National mainly because they are always on our local stores shelves. We prefer dogs with the natural casings but they seem to be a rare item in most stores although the Hoffy Hollywood Original Beef Frankfurters all natural casings are usually available.
I like your testing method...
Thank you for mentioning Costco's "Kirkland Beef Franks" they are THE BOMB. And the dinner ones are the jumbo franks they sell in their food court.
Oh, I know, they are delicious!
Without a doubt, my favorite dog. They hav great flavor and a nice snap.
I said the EXACT same thing👍👍👍👍
I love Costco hot dogs!
Crazy, ran across the channel and saw Fogo.... that's my go to charcoal, love it !! I stuck around for your hotdog challenge. Im glad I did.. very interesting. Yeah, this is awesome and it's all about Glizzy's😊.
Question?
I was rooting for the Sabrettes from the get go. I love a sabrettt hot dog in Natural casing - not skinless. boiled in water just like the dirty water hot dog carts in New York. The pop when you bite into them. They have such a beautiful flavor to them. Occasionally my wife buys whatever is on sale but they are either sabrette , Nathan’s , boars head or Hebrew national -that’s it.
Hey Vic, make sure to check out next weeks video, we actually boiled some dogs.
As kid growing up in nyc in the 80s I loved sabrett
100% agreed!! Sabrett dirty water dogs off the hot dog cart are the best!! I moved out of NJ in 2009, and now live in NC. The only thing I miss about NJ are the beaches and the Sabrett dirty water dogs! Oh, and the hand tossed pizzas!!
It's the Hotdogs carts in New York City that turn me on to Sabretts
The Nathan's hot dog stand in NewYork city was too slow and expensive so I never had one
I tried Sahlen’s for the first time about six months ago. Best hot dog I have ever had. I have not bought any other brand since. I am a Sahlen’s apologist now.
Sahlens natural casing weiners are the best hot dogs on Earth. None of the others can compare!
Zweigles hands down best on the planet still made like when founded in 1880 ... Sahlens is not even a close 2nd.
Try the deli ham it is the best
Awesome to see Ron doing his thing!!!!!!!
Well thank you so much. Who is this?
I love the test, Actually, there are 5 ways to cook a hot dog. I put them in this order: 1) grill 2) fried 3) boiled 4) microwave 5) air fried. The last 2 being questionable because of the unknown ranking. I liked the survey. I had ball park, but I'm a Nathan' s guy. I'm willing to do my own taste test and give my results. Until next time, chow down!
I like your order!
Love this. You not changing your mind makes me feel more confident about the final rankings. Great job
Honestly, I was pretty surprised. It built my belief that I was right the first time too
@@FOGOcharcoal say hello to Roseanne Barr for me. How long you been married? 🌭
I grew up on boiled Sabrett's from the pushcarts around New York. They are usually the natural casing dogs, they have a great snap. Same with Nathan's natural casing. I don't care for skinless hot dogs. Another great local dog is Thumann's. You find them a lot at the Jersey shore, usually grilled or deep fried.
Yes sir, dirty water dogs are the bomb. I've had the deep fried Jersey dogs too....
Yes dirty water dog, with sauerkraut…..oh and mustard…..no onions….I took my husband to New York, showed him my childhood home, gave him traditional lunch. Hot dod and an orange soda
Thanks for the tip!
I live in upstate NY and we have Hoffmanns from Syracuse! the snappy grillers white spicy dogs and the skinless weiners are the best around up here!
I forgot about Thumans great hot dog and another tasty dog is Bests.
I'm from the Buffalo area, Sahlen's used to be amazing back when they were a regional brand. Their quality has taken a massive nosedive since they've expanded.
Thanks for the info!
Sabrett`s has always been at the top of my list also....I usually consume a couple a week. Thanks for sharing !
Nathan's are many people favorites. I like all all beef dogs.
Those are tasty for sure!
I did the same test 15yrs ago. Sabrett came in first place, and still is today!
i love this. i worked in concessions in an arena over 20 years ago. We had a deal with a supplier out of Quebec but it did not stop Wiener makers from all across Canada and the upper US states sending us cases to sample . I can say that I have tried more brands of wieners than anyone i know over a 7 year period working there .
The three you picked are very good. My all-time favorite is Best Provision out of Newark, NJ, but they're hard to get elsewhere.
Wow, I came for this comment! I now live far away from Essex county, and tried to order a case, to no avail... I think Dickie Dee's uses Best Provisions

Felicidades Ron tu video ya es millonario. Muchas Bendiciones 😘 🙏 🙌
The late Howard Johnson’s Restaurant chain had an exclusive hotdog called a Frankfurt and/or Frankfurter. It was featured as being grilled in butter, and then placed into a fabulous formed grilled in butter bun! I have been unsuccessful in ascertaining the actual recipe for this iconic American hotdog. I consider this a true loss.
W. T. Grant dept. Store lunch counter had the same type of dog. The dogs were roller grilled and the buns were buttered then. toasted.
And they split the dog before grilling it. Ah sweet memories.
My grandpa and grandma used to call Howard Johnson's, "ho Jo's" ....
Does anybody still call it that???

I knew that the Sabrett's would be your #1 pick. I've only had them one time, back in 1981. They were the best hotdog I have ever had. If I knew where to get them here, that would be the dog I pick.
Maybe they will ship them?
Not sure where you live, but if you have a lowes foods they have them, I am in N.C.
If you have a friend who belongs to Restaurant Depot you could get them there.

I'm glad I watched this, because I had always thought that the "BEST Hot Dog Ever," would have been a personal preference thing. Now I know that I should take ol Ron's advice.
LOL, just one mans opinion. I am right though. LOLOL Thanks for tuning in!
I tried a brand for the first time this week....Kayen or Kayem....and by far I love these. They're not salty. They don't taste like preservatives. There's no aftertaste. The casing gives that perfect crunch. I love them. A package was only $3 and I'm going back to buy many for the freezer. Anyone else try them?
I have not but I will certainly look for them
I've consumed at least 8 raw hotdogs a week for 40 years, and
I'm still kicking. I absolutely love Hebrew National, and purchase them by the case from Costco.
What do you mean by Hotdogs??? I knew a Girl who loved hotdogs her favorite was "Boars HEAD". We had some good time's. I use too toast her bun's.
Hebrew national the first all beef hotdog
There's no such thing as a "raw hot dog" unless you're working on the production line at the hot dog factory and you get one before it goes through the cooker. Anything you find packed in the store is fully cooked and is labeled that way.
Great Video..! Thanks for opening my eyes..! 👍
NOW… Try this same test with a few kids doing the taste test. Wonder how different the results will be. Cheers
Ahhh, now that just may bring a whole different set of results!
Kids prefer cheap hot dogs to all beef. Sabrett would lose to the likes of Armour or Bar S
What was missing from your taste test were Vienna brand all beef hot dogs and Hoffy brand beef hot dogs.
I had a hot dog at a friends house a month ago, it was an Oscar Mayer Angus beef hot dog, it was surprisingly good.
Nathan's skinless and natural casing hot dogs taste different from each other.
Sabrett, Vienna, Hoffy's, Nathan's and Boar's head all offer a natural casing hot dog version of their product.
czcams.com/video/eJcvfCzkJRc/video.html
Yeah I have a feeling the one in this video that he said tasted like bologna was the Oscar Meyer. He said they were all beef but Oscar Meyer wieners are made with pork, chicken and beef. The supposed all beef is labeled beef franks. The Angus beef are fairly good. The reality is most hot dogs are made from all sorts of cuts. From head, feet, liver, fatty tissue, snout, lips, eyes, brain and so on.
Hoffy brand dogs are fillers and flavor. OM is ok but for my money, sorta bland. Just an opinion. By the way anymore. It’s a mad cow thing. They had to stop that in 1996-97. All brains are used as scape meats for make ups and soaps.
Great demonstration. I'm from Buffalo, ny, and I can say sahlens is a great one. Keep up the great job. Now I got to go hot dogs are ready
Hot dog rankings are always a hot topic between my friends and I…excellent video Ron!
Right on Andrew! It is funny how there are so many different favorites among people!
Me to, what’s you think about Vienna beef
A friend had to go to hot dog school before he could become a Boy Scout leader. He told me to always remember that grain expands when you cook it and meat shrinks. So hot dogs that plump when you cook them are grain. I can buy grain at the feed store much cheaper than in a package of hot dogs.
ballparks expand ...
The Sabrett in the casing is the classic "Dirty Water Dog" of NYC. Has a good snap and firm texture even after sitting in the steamer awhile, and I think they use more garlic in the seasoning that gives them that distinctive taste.
I was a meat department manager back before Kroger screwed up the industry and I got to tell you. The Sabrett’s are the highest quality dog in the market. Can’t beat them. Hebrew National is a close second if you like a little more spice. Just my opinion.
Sahlens/Wardynski...buffalo favorites..Your charcoal is also a favorite
Good choices!
Watching this, I want to be invited over for lunch immediately. “Dogs” are so good grilled! Best on a stick over an open camp fire in my opinion. Some of the best dogs I’ve had were the wrinkled kind. Not sure why. I brown mine briefly in a pan then toss into boiling water. I get that char skin but the boiling helps to reduce too much richness especially if going condiment free.
Fun vid! Some brands I haven’t heard of too. Happy summer hot dogging everyone! ☀️
Have you tried "overcooking" them on a weenie walker? Once they are wrinkled they are delicious!
You boil your hot dogs? You've been living on a camp site a little too long. You don't boil hot dogs, you grill them.
If you ever find yourself in Coral Springs, Fl, you are invited!
The last time I bought Hebrew National I thought I had dropped one and lost it between the kitchen and the BBQ. Nope they downsized the package from 7 to 6.I haven't bought them since. It's called 'SHRINKFLATION'.

Zweigles Hotdogs pop open style all I got to say.
Sahlens makes a damn good hotdog so no surprise it’s 2nd. I’m a little surprised they did so well skinless because they are truly known for that wonderful charred casing

Right on!
I see them all over New York City. Vendors sell them in Central Park. At least they did in 2017 when last I visited.
That’s pretty cool my grandparents used to own a Sabrette truck back in New York before moving to Arizona to open Italian restaurants. It’s too bad you can’t get Sabrette in stores here in AZ.
When it comes to processed meats like hot dogs, "best" becomes very arbitrary and subjective, depending on your criteria and your own personal taste. I've had cheap hot dogs made from chicken and pork for so long that when I get an "all-beef" hot dog, it doesn't taste right to me. Hot dogs also depend on the condiments and toppings you put on them. A chili cheese dog is going to taste different from a Chicago dog, no matter which hot dog brand you use.
As I've gotten older, I've found that I prefer a sausage over a hot dog, with mayo, sweet relish and tomato.
I'm with you 90% until you touted Mayo lol
If he thinks all hot dogs aren't cook, that's like saying, cook your bologna before you make a sandwich.
I do love fried bologna.
Right!?! I used to think the red ones had to be gross cuz they cheaper but my friend told me about em and I actually like them better than a lot of other ones
I love Polska Kielbasa 😍
Mayo shame on you
I discover that my favorite is the Dietz and Watson dogs in a natural casing. The seasoning, and the addictive casing snap won me over.
another TINY brand that 99.99% of America has never heard of.
All of the Delaware Valley/ Tri State area knows about Dietz & Watson. Very good dogs
Love those dogs too, i can find them at a few stores here in NC
Good video, I just went out and bought some Sabrett Hot Dogs and another brand calle Applegate. Have never tried either one so I will let you know. Also, Costco Kirkland brand hot dogs...yummy!!!
Hope you enjoy! Oh yeah, those Costco dogs!!!
The Kirklands are very good.
Eckrich. Used to grab 3 from the freezer, put em in my back pocket and play until dark. Heaven on earth.
Snacks on the go!
Great video Ron! Sabrett's has always been my favorite especially when I have some of their "Onions in Sauce" to top them with. Have to say that I recently put some Nathan's 1/4 pound dogs on my egg and thought they were a bit better.
I wouldn't say no to either. I made another video with NY vs Chicago. Sabrett with onion sauce, kraut and spicy mustard....yum!!!
I'm 53 and the best I've ever ate are the Hebrew National ...they're so good I eat kraut and mustard on them with mashed potatoes and corn on the side...anyway you make them they're delicious...I usually put a small amount of water in a skillet and heat them up that way ....the microwave doesn't do any frank justice...
Where do you get Hebrew national from?
@@davidvalens3337 Walmart carries them
@@davidvalens3337 get the jumbo size Hebrew Nationals….4 to a pack…they seem to have even better flavor than the smaller HN’s…
Here on the west coast it’s Casper’s hot dogs. “The dog that snaps back.” In Northern California you can buy them at Costco.
Good Job, I did a similar taste test at a family BBQ party of 15 adults. I had Ball Park Angus, but I didn't use buns (too filling). Mine included Boars Head but I didn't have Sahlen's. Sabrett was #1 until we got to the "Nathans". If it wasn't for the Nathans "Sabrett" would have been #1
I love it!
Hot dogs are always precooked, you eat them right out of the package, been doing it ever since I was a kid and I'm 65. This man just went way down on the credibility list. Moms have been handing children and toddlers weenies straight out of the package to shut them up since the beginning of hot dog time. I can't believe you said that they are not pretty cooked.
The info I was given was incorrect. It should have been that although MOST are precooked, the FDA recommends fully cooking them again before consuming them.
Recently, I've seen a lot of hot dogs and bacon listed as "uncured." I'm wondering if that's what he meant and if that is a problem bacteria-wise.
right im 55 my brothers are always running around with a hot dog right out of the package
They are precooked. BIL worked in a 'factory' that made various sausages and hotdogs. Hot dogs start out blue and they know the hotdogs are cooked when they turn red. Kind of like the tape on surgical kits that has the black strips when the kits reach the right temp when sterilized.
Chillax. Food is not as high quality now, gramps. It's best to cook all the way through just in case
Hot dogs having been one of my favorite foods since childhood, this is the video I did not know I needed.
LOL, I am just glad we could fill that spot...
I can tell you which 1 is the best. It's the 1 you grew up eating, it's the 1 you had from your childhood memories. For me it's just a plane jane Oscar Myer, boiled served with mustard and ketchup. Ate a bunch of them when my grandparents took me and my cousins up to their cabin in the summer. I still boil them to this day, brings me back to a happy time in my life.
I would have to agree with you but I grew up eating Hebrew National and they didn't even rank here. BUT...I do believe that they have changed them over the years.
I live in So Cal & while I'm not familiar with a couple of those brands my go-to 'grocery store' dogs are the Jumbo Nathans either with mustard & grilled onions or as a chili dog. Sometimes I buy the Dietz & Watson white ones...they may be called Brätwurst. I grill them then put them on a good deli roll, add German mustard and grilled onions....just the way I enjoyed them from carts on the streets of Salzburg. Anything from a German butcher is going to be pretty tasty. Wish there was one near me. 🌭
I love the dirt cheap chicken&pork dogs. Although they’re salty and need 10 minutes of boiling first. Then finish them on the grill and get them nice and dark. Then I put two of them on the bun at once. Been doing it like this for 40 years.
Last week I made tri color slaw and packed it onto Nathan's dogs with spicy brown mustard on brioche buns. Super delicious!
I live in the west & have never seen Sabrett's brand. I'm going on the internet & order several packages ASAP! Sounds yummy. I also really love Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard‼️
Hope you enjoy
My wife and I both grew up eating uncooked hot dogs since the 70's and we never got sick lol. I've eaten uncooked bacon, fresh ground sausage, beef, fish......etc, and never had food poisoning.
Oh sure, you probably drank water from the hose and rode a bike with no helmet too! LOL, I hear ya, just relaying what the manufacturers advise.
You should try Black Bear beef franks. They’re a bit bigger and different than the bigger brand hotdogs and they snap when you bite into them. They’re all bundled together in the packaging like they’re from a deli and connected at the ends. Good stuff. Out of the ones on your list, I think I like Sabrett the best, then Hebrew National and then Nathan’s, but there’s also a couple on here I’ve never tried.
That snap is because they have a natural casing. Nathan’s also makes hot dogs like that although these he has in this video are not. I prefer the natural casing also.
Boars head , Hebrew national, sorbets, and Nathan’s for me. Boars head with the skins, or snappers as we called them are great on a really good chili dog.
Just saw your video!...
Awesome! Iam having hotdogs today! Thank you!
Have fun!
Sabrettt with the natural casing has always been my favorite.
Can't go wrong
Captain, I hope this was a tasty test ….. I never had a Sabretts, (or seen them at a local grocery store) but I’ll keep my eyes open. For what it’s worth, I’m always pleasantly surprised at the yumminess of Costco’s beef hot dog ….. in any event, I hope it was a tasty treat!!
I won't lie Ron, I rarely leave Costco without a hot dog!
@@FOGOcharcoal that’s the way it should be!
I am lucky enough to have a Costco with an outdoor service. I lost my Costco meal in my second divorce!!!!
You definitely need to try a Sabrett's hot dog. I grew up eating them and love them.
Agreed very much so wholeheartedly I mentioned that we should give the Costco hot dog in honorable mention here because it's 100% beef and delicious.... 🌭🌭🌭🌭
Any love for Koegels (skinless or vienna) out there? I had never tried them but ordered a bunch from Amazon. Very good.
Armour used to make a decent dog but I have not seen them in a while.
Love to see a review of regional hot dogs! Starting with the Norfolk Dog, or Snap Dog, formerly made by Hormel, now made by Southern Packing Company in nearby Chesapeake, VA. Cheers everybody!
We have actually considered doing that but I think it would literally take all year long because there are SO many regional dogs.
I just bought Sabrett which I grilled. It is said to be #1 on goggle. I'll have to try Sahlens next. Hot dogs now a days just don't taste like they use to. Great show.
I could not agree more Joy. They definitely do taste different these days
@@FOGOcharcoal I thought it was just me. Thanks
Western NY dogs are usually the best if you AX me - Sahlens, Buffalo Hoffmans, Syracuse Zweigels, Rochester. I thought Sahlen's and Sabrett's are very similar - Sahlen's a bit saltier... gimme your take on Zweigles pork hots... this is a king ingredient to the Nick Tahoe's Garbage Plate.
Mmmm Garbage plate.... finally someone who speaks my language
I'm in 100% agreement, and would add Wardynski and Glasier. Growing up in buffalo with family all over NYS, I've become quite the tube steak snob.
@@brettc.4799 My father in law use to eat Glaziers. I have yet to try one due to the red dye they use. But I hear they are amazing.
@@wendull811 having relatives in mallone, I grew up on glaziers, and it truly is a hot dog worth the hype. The food coloring is only used on the casing before being stuffed, and after being washed, it's more like a stained casing. The interior portion is exactly the color you'd expect, with a snap unrivaled by ANY other dog!
@@brettc.4799 My father in law grew up near mallone. I want to say cherabusko. (Spelled it wrong I'm sure) That is how I found out about them. His family still lives up that way.
Really good and colorful segment. I would like for you to do one on natural casing hot dogs. IMHO they kick ass versus regular hot dogs. Sabrett, Nathans, Boars head, etc. are all good and are far superior than their manufactured (and subsequently stripped) casing hot dogs. They actually split on the grill and have a snap when you bite into them.
Agree. Cant do it unless they have natural casing. Best I can find are the Boars Head and the Fork in the Road at Whole Foods
I’m from NY and you are correct Kevin. Other brands mostly from flyover territories are like and taste like baloney.
Of course he was where tropical trees are in the background so that’s probably why the tester guy was surprised.
@@lescobrandon3047 Likewise, am from NY too. Born in Brooklyn, grew up in Queens and now live in Nassau county. Some of the best hot dogs in the nation are right where we live
@@kevin7151 - Me too, kinda! Born in Manhattan, raised in Brooklyn and live since 1946 in Nassau County.
from the web:
“What origin does the word hot dog come from?
The term “hot dog” was coined in 1901 in New York City at the Polo Grounds, home field at various times for both the New York Yankees and the Giants. On a chilly April day, concessionaire Harry Stevens (the company he founded is still in business) was losing money trying to sell ice cream and cold soda.

When I was a kid, we ate Kahn's franks. Can't get those where I live now, so I usually go the the Hebes. I will have to try Sabrett next time.
I think that you will like them
I stopped right after you named all the hotdogs and didnt even have "Koegles"! Made in Michigan and sought after all arohnd the country!
Oh, I never heard of them before this video but I certainly have now. I even ordered some and I agree, they are tasty!
Great video! Are there stores that sell Sabrett and Sahlens or did you have to buy them online? Thx!
We have stores here that sell them but I have since found out that they're not available everywhere.
I'm not too picky with my hotdogs.
They usually end up smothered in chili, cheese, sour cream, jalapeño, & diced onion.
I guess I never met a "bad" hotdog.
I'm with you, even a bad dog is still pretty damn good
😂😂😂😂
That's because you've never had a koegel....! It's that or nothing! Michigan represent! I guarantee you will hands down prefer it but you might like the cheap dogs?
@@adamsecord5954
I don't prefer "cheap" dogs.
Just never saw much difference between, for example;
Ballpark franks, Nathan's,
Oscar Mayer weiners, or
Hebrew International.
SOUR Cream?
Member's Mark 1/4 pound Beef franks are great...I really like those grilled, and they're huge when they plump up!
