Triborg is a pretty clever idea in more ways than one. Saves a lot of space in the roster (you have basically four characters in one spot), covers a lot of playing styles and makes canonical sense some divergent leadership in the Lin Kuei (Frost, most likely?...) would program an "all styles" cyborg. I'm still surprised he didn't make it into MK11, wouldn't be a big leap if he showed up in 12.
Triborg is absolutely one of my favourite things any fighting game has ever done, I love the idea. I remember while the all the dlc was being announced and released during the course of MKX's life, people wanted *A* cyborg. People figuring we'd only get one and trying to guess whether it'd be Sektor, Cyrax or Smoke. Using the variations system to give all three in one, plus a bonus Cyber Sub Zero? Absolutely genius. I really really hope we see Triborg again in MK 12. I could gush about how much I love him forever. Netherrealm found a way to let everyone get what they want. No one was disappointed, it was just great to not see a big sentiment of "Not the cyborg I wanted, boooooooo!" Everyone got their cyborg.
Actually Cyrax can do a lot of damage if he doesn't use bombs at any point in his combos. Cyber Sub-Zero is so fun to watch and I still think he has potential.
@@pi3man252 I know how you feel. Mk11 feels slowl and clunky. Plus the new changes to the variation system bad it harder to learn the match up and harder for new players to learn the game
And all of them were so broken on day 1 (specially Cyrax and Cyber Sub Zero) they both have aggressive damage, brutal 50/50 set-ups, mix-ups and infinites (gladly they got nerf).
As a Cyrax player, yh they were a little broken, cyber sub did 11 hits 56% damage with 3 drones Sektor and smoke were reaching 60% damage with 3 bars and Cyrax could do 40-50% effortlessly 🤣🤣
Smoke is my favorite...because he's Smoke. I loved him in MK9 and seeing him again made me feel like dogs do after seeing their owner get back home. However, while watching this video Cyber Sub-zero looked super interesting, and I have to admit he's probably my least touched character in all of MKX simply because I forget he exists 99% of the time.
Smoke in mkx just doesn't feel like smoke. Sure, he's got all the specials, but it's that "triborg" play style and not smokes. Imo your comparison of Mk9 smoke is a terrible example, they're basically two entirely different characters.
I used to be a Triborg Main (Mainly Smoke) but the fact that they are quite literally 4 different character cuz they play absolutely nothing like each other which I liked about them, but idk Smoke was just my style, mostly cuz of his X-Ray animation

It just feels that with Smoke, you are never, ever TRULY out of the game. The potential for a ridiculous comeback is omnipresent. I actually switched my main from Hunter Predator to Smoke after having only played around with him for a couple days. And found he was just plain superior to not only Hunter (and Hish-Qu-Tan) Pred, but basically almost every other character as well. If only for the simple fact that Smoke can carry YOU. Having a shit day and your execution just isn't there? Okay, Smoke has plenty of options that require none of the difficult/intricate techniques from MKXL. Is your true Main suffering in a particular match-up? Switch to Smoke, and it almost always levels the playing field. He's very much Vanilla SF4 Sagat-esque in that fashion (albeit FAR less broken and OP), so that's probably why I gelled with Smoke so quickly. He can convert off of some ridiculous trades for good (to sometimes great) damage, and his corner game has got to be Top 3 in the game. I'd highly recommend checking Smoke out to anyone reading this (if you're looking for basically ANYTHING...be it an overall main switch, a solid secondary option, a character that CAN be beginner-friendly, but is also deep as Hell...I could go on and on).
Y'know something that always ticked me off? He's called Triborg. "Tri" meaning 3, as in three characters. Cyrax, Sektor and Smoke. But Sub-Zero is also an option. So it shouldn't be Triborg. Maybe Quadruborg?
Well considering subzero is a character among himself within the game I think we can consider the subzero variation non-canon and nothing more than a playable Easter egg
Ngl the idea of triborg initially put me off the character but eventually I warmed up to it. I will say I still prefer them to be separate but this isn't bad. As for variation I prefer Cyrax, when he came out on mk3 I was really intrigued and am so glad I chose him first. Easily one of my fave mk characters
He's also diverse ethnically if you look at the origins given to each of his constituent characters. As Cyrax, he's Motswana (a people from the African country of Botswana). As Sektor, he's unspecified but still the son of the Lin Kuei Grandmaster. As Smoke (Tomas Vrbada), he's from Prague. As Sub-Zero, he's half-Caucasian (mother's side), part Chinese and part Outworld Cryomancer (and Sindel says in an intro that Cryomancers originated in Edenia before she banished them). How much heritage is that to explore?
even though this video is 2 years old, I just started playing MK 1 again, the last MK i played was Deadly alliance, its so refreshing to here some body so passionate about a game they love and express it

As a human Hydro used ice powers and water...so a mixture of sub-zero and Rain (only he isn't factually as strong as Rain). In the original backstory he was mortally wounded by Scorpion after he came back as a Spectre...Scorpion was looking for Bi Han but found Hydro first. So Hydro was in cryo and later was used to make the VERY FIRST cyber ninja. and in the original backstory not Netherealm's alternate there were ONLY FOUR cyber ninjas, not loads; Cyrax, Hydro, Sektor and Smoke. i accept Cyber Frost as canon because that story arch makes complete sense with her character...she probably WOULD come back as a cyborg to try and be more powerful. The point is me and my group of friends never understood why cyber sub zero was a thing when Hydro is LITERALLY the same...or at least almost the same. when he became a cyborg Hydro could use a beam of ice...the only thing Hydro did different from cyber SZ that i can think of is use water and combine it with electrical currents to fry his foe (like one fatality he had in a MK mugen was put water into their body and then send electricity in) oh and to add insult to injury they DIDN'T turn smoke into a cyborg...which ruined his legacy

TriBorg Smoke was my fav Variation it gave me chills seeing all the Borgs mashed up into one being blew my mind when I seen he had a secret Variant as Cyber SubZero he’s one of the Sickest DLC Kharacters

Triborg is literally one of the coolest additions NRS has given us. Basically MK's Ultron. I hope he returns later on both playable and in story
