  • Please read: After a year Bratislavsky sermiarsky spolok brings you a new video. This time we tried to cover something which is rather rare to be seen on YT - Krumphau (Crooked cut) and Schielhau (Squinting Hew) with its "stucken". Hope you enjoy it! Comments welcome!

    I like that these guys "really" get the concept of taking the other persons base/initiative away by putting their body/weight in the right place. Too many people not doing that.

      @@thomastucker7317 oh you don't know Anton. What they do in this training is restricted fighting, where they limit the amount of actions. Footwork and timing is free, hit intent is real (to the head). Some call it aliveness drills. But of course you have to take care not to hit in the wrong place. Anton is definitely not a choreography guy. But what I can imagine is that some parts are maybe 10% or 20% faster than filmed.

    @maeljin hi. we practice both of the possibilities, I`m not sure if it is mentioned somewhere explicitely, but for example if you read Danzig, in his krump zu fleche stuck he doesn`t mention stepping at all. Ofc that does not mean we shouldn`t do it. I would say that it depends on intention, distance and tempo

    I'm a practitioner of KdF from Australia, and I must say that I love your videos. The group I'm with, the Glenn Lachlan College of Arms, do our own research and interpretation, and we've made a similar interpretation of the martial art. It's good to know that somewhere out there, on the other side of the world, someone else is thinking the same things as us. :D

    Another notable thing about the video is the control used. Fast attacks but light contact, done very nicely. Fast doesn't have to mean a lot of impact. It's nice to see people drill at high speed with steel but in a way that is safe and controlled, but without huge artifacts creeping into the techniques used. Well done.

      Read Ringeck / Von Danzig. What they practice is pretty much "by the book," but they practice it in a very fluid and alive manner which is impressive to watch.

    • @CajunCoder
      @CajunCoder Před 9 lety

      Well, that is something that irks me as well. That, and the fluidity of their movements at times; on occasion, they appear to rush a sequence of movements a bit artificially. But, I try to reserve judgement -- they seem to be trying to apply the core principles of the art in (at least what they perceive) a realistic manner. That mentality is more important in the long run than any minor discrepancies in technique.

    • @CajunCoder
      @CajunCoder Před 9 lety +1

      ***** I would actually disagree on that particular point. I feel that modern fencers are too timid, and I will explain why. Though Danzig warns of not "rushing into the war," Lichtenauer clearly states that one should strike the in range directly and to the man without fear, and in earnest -- not employing the "jumping in and out of distance and faking and feinting" that modern competitors are so fond of. Moreover, I find a clear parallel between Lichtenauer's system and previous martial arts I have studied; Wing Chun, in particular, is eerily identical to Lichtenauer in method (attacking via direct lines, chasing the man and not the hands or blade, working from the bind and responding to pressure, the application of simultaneous attack and defense, etc.), and I think what Danzig is likely referring to about "rushing into the war" is what we would refer to as "chasing hands" in Wing Chun. Many people, when they are out of contact and used to working from a bind or "bridge," will chase their opponents hands or weapons in order to try to build that bridge. In Wing Chun, this usually means chasing the opponent's lead hand with some technique you propose to use, and will more often than not, put you in danger, as your opponent can simply move that hand and hit you elsewhere. To make a bridge or bind safely, you have to threaten your opponent by attacking him directly; essentially, giving him an attack that he must parry to ensure his own safety. From there, you now have come safely to the bind or bridge by chasing the man, and can work within it, as opposed to seeking it prematurely by chasing that which can move more readily and surprise you (the hand, or blade).

      ***** ***** Hey guys, keep in mind this is not a sparring but a demo/presentation of what we do (or did, considering it is 4yo). It "follows the book". Regarding the speed, it's more or less a similar speed in which things occur in sparring.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian Před 9 lety +1

      ***** O rly? Reading insightful thoughts like "mentality is wrong" "too fast to process properly" makes me doubt your understanding of the difference. Tell me more about wrong mentality. If you also have any videos of you fencing to share, I'd be delighted to see it:)
