    I would love to see video of this being used in sparring. It looks very impressive, and I am obsessing over it... but at the same time your starting measure is so close it looks like the potential for doubles is huge.

    Most outstanding & impressive (Great Job!)💯💯👍👍 Little gets rid of the bad blood better than a sword duel to the death, as I know for fact that most highly educated & cultivated people agree with me on that point (ignore the pun, granted it's there)😜😉

    Marvelous, dazzling & badass! For such super deadly & ultra effective swordfighting, based on exact timing, powerful wrist turning thrusts & lethal aggressiveness, would be more than a match against a highly trained, Katana wielding Japanese Samurai, thus serving to upend & dispel that theory of Eastern supremacy in the fine & fancy art of swordplay (as much as I love & revere the Japanese Katana Sword & all that goes into mastering its various techniques & finer points, the sheer euphoric exaltation of which can only be felt at a deeper primal level while there is a kind of mystically blessed spirituality to it as well!). What a fantastic demonstration!

    isn't the foodwork a bit off? I mean I get that you want to deceive your opponent through bodylanguage, but having your backfoot off the ground like that seems dangerous to me. Especially when you talk about Ringen am schwert. I see no practical purpose in it, aside from gaining a few extra inches of length by going forth like that, but again, such footwork can be punished harshly by someone who's good at ringen.

    This fight is linear and neither fighter takes into account the Abzug with a instant break in the proceedings when a hit is made.

      Interesting analysis! You're welcome to join our league at any time (there are 5 tournaments in total) and to meet all the fighters. How would you imagine the fight to continue after a valid hit was made? Let the fighters bash a few more cuts, or?

    • @Budrex
      @Budrex Před 7 lety

      I am wondering what would you consider as nonlinear and equally or more effective as those straightforward (and hence the fastest possible) attacks.

      Liechtenauer says you need to be attacking with an offline step to opponent's left side. Later masters and most competitive HEMA fencers disagree.

    So, at my college HEMA club, we've been using darkwordarmoury synthetic longswords, and I've noticed that we move a great deal slower than you and many other longsword fighters on youtube do. How much of it is experience and how much is the fact that you use steel?

    • @johnmeadowcourt
      @johnmeadowcourt Před 7 lety

      Hi Allen! Sorry for the late reply! Speed is not dependant on the weapons used. It is something you have to practice on almost daily basis. Explosivity, footwork, cardio, HIIT etc are a major part of our training routine.

    • @ellentheeducator
      @ellentheeducator Před 7 lety

      Thank you. I don't mind knowing that all I have to do is keep practicing, but I would hate the idea of being held back by the practice weapon more than myself

    • @GuyInAHotdogSuit69

      Martin Fabian With wooden or metal longswords? I mean with regular fencing with a foil or saber maybe, but surely not a longsword? I find that hard to believe. I've been doing it for 6 months and I get a hand injury of some description every couple of weeks, and that's WITH cricket gloves, I shudder to think what would happen if I weren't protected.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian Před 8 lety

      Metal longswords and any other weapons you may imagine. I am one of the guys in this video. Well than you should reconsider some training habits. It's definitely not standard nor pleasant to get your fingers injured.

    • @GuyInAHotdogSuit69
      @GuyInAHotdogSuit69 Před 8 lety

      Martin Fabian I agree, it just seems like it would be an inevitable part of training, even my instructor gets his hands caught sometimes, I try very hard to not get my hands injured but everyone I've met sustains an injury at one point or another. I'm not sure how you manage to avoid it, and after training for so long. To me it seemed like getting a black eye in boxing, or sustaining a shoulder or wrist injury in jujitsu (I do those too), like it was just par for the course. Maybe I'm just a dumbass XD

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian Před 8 lety

      Since my school was founded 8y ago we had altogether 3 broken fingers. One at a tournament outside our school and two during exercises which were a result of a direct finger hit due to a critical error / bad reaction on defendant's side. Of course minor bruises or skin wounds happen from time to time but that is normal and not exclusive to fingers. In my experience most of the injuries on trainings happen when people are not doing what they are supposed to do or are using wrong techniques (or performing techniques badly). It's always a duty of the instructor to lay the instructions clearly, to be aware of what people are doing and to explain all the errors so people would be wary :)

    Really cool video, are you guys still training?When you say 'exercises' and not free fighting does that mean in your passes you know in advance what the attack is going to be, but the defence and follow up is free, or is the entire pass pre-determined?Do you always train with feders?

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian Před 8 lety

      Sorry for the late answer! Yes, we're still training though I moved most of the video production to my personal channel. Most of the assaults you see in this videos are predetermined plus some improvisation. It depends, we do all kinds of practice. We do train with "feders" almost exclusively Cheers
