From the Field -- FMS Rafale 80mm EDF First Flights (Clean & Full Stores!)

- Something about the Dassault deltas, they’re always such nice looking designs. This FMS Rafale 80mm EDF is a recent addition to the shop and it's a really nice looking model! The fit and finish are really nice and the model really flies well too. While I'm working on putting my review together, here's a quick first flights video in the clean and full stores configuration. The model looks awesome with the stores, but it does lose some of the top end performance for sure. One thing to note is that all of the servos run through a central control box which features a ‘flap’ mode which I don't recommend using. It essentially cuts your elevator rate in half by fixing the inboard elevon surface in a ‘flapped’ position only allowing the outboard trailing edge surfaces for maneuvering. Landing is when you want the elevator authority the most and limiting you to a smaller moving surface will only make it more challenging. So, that's something to be aware of. #Rafale #TigerMeet #TheRCGeek

Love the way this bird sounds and it looks amazing! Looking forward to the full review Chris. Great stuff as always!
Thanks man!
Excellent Chris, love the yellow and blue livery!👌🏽
Great flights Chris. That thing sounds really good...looks good too.
Thanks!
Very nice vid again Chris with good info and no talking during the flight! I'm loving my FMS Rafale as well, she's different from all my other EDFs and has one of your centerburner installed 😉😉😉 I'm looking forward to your full review. Greetings from Belgium!
Thanks!
Boys and their toys, this one is awesome!
Yasss! 🤣
that sound is so sweet
Love the high alpha capabilities. Great 👍 job on the video.
Gotta love them delta winged jets! I know I do! 😁
Beautiful plane
Sounds great!
Nice flying Chris!
Thanks!
Nicely done
Thanks!
Like the low passes over runway. Always enjoy your vids Chris! Seems like deltas would be more sensitive to the breeze with all that surface but you fly it like it’s a myth. Chris knows the magic 😁
Haha, thanks! I really enjoy flying deltas. 😁
Got to love it....".its a delta flies nice"
Oh yeah! Love me them deltas as you know. 😁
Magic...FMS Rafale🌠🛩🌠🛩🌠
That’s badass
Nice Chris, them burners look good.
Thanks!
Good stuff man. Though "Raphael" was a Ninja Turtle, this is the Rafale ("rah-fall") 😉
Indeed, but I like ninja turtles! 🤣
Love this plane, looked harder to fly with ordinance, great flight chris 👍🏻
Wasn’t any harder, but it did reduce the top end speed noticeably.
@@Thercgeek I a sucker for looks, so if it’s only speed that’s reduced, then cool. 👍🏻
I love the sound of the Rafael, I am no where near good enough to fly one but I am gonna buy one and store it till I am
u mean the sound at 8:30? lol
@@enzok6414 lol
You mean "Rafale"
As always nice content! BTW, I just purchased a set of your 80mm twin center burners on your site last night! Their for my Freewing Mig-29 that's also in route to be delivered. Very Very anxious to get the both of em' and test! 👍🏾... I also plan on utilizing some of the setup techniques you provided on your video in regards to the mig!
Thank you! The mig29 is a sweet ride. Burner Controllers are in customs now, hoping they’ll be released and delivered this week. Customs has been killing me on this delivery! 😕
Oh ok. I didn't know Customs was a factor when shipping domestic. Well, I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait!👌🏾
It’s not. The controller I use comes from Spain and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of them so I can start shipping burners again.
@@Thercgeek Nice
Do you need how to hold high alpha, more pitch and half throtte, Nice flight.
Hi criss thank you for making this video i was so impress with your f16 falcon 80mm jet video specially this rafle jet and both that plane are on my rc garage already.but i have question about this plane and kind a little confusing for me because im just a beginner flyer and still learning. I was confuse to the reciever for this plane rafle because i read the discription from horizon hobby for the completion on this jet rafle that they recommend the spektrum AR6610T reciever with nx6 channel transmitter from spektrum and i have Both of those as well and i watch some video from the other person here on youtube and all of them their using the same reciever and that was different to the recommended reciever by horizon hobby and that is (spektrum AR637T correct me if im wrong with this). My question is you think is that ok if i use my AR6610T reciever with nx6 transmitter from spektrum and im gonna get problem with that plane? That all. And thanks again criss for your time as well. I hope you read this massage and god blesssed always.
Yes, the 6610 will work just fine. The difference between the 6610 and the 637 is primarily that the 637 has the AS3X gyro while the 6610 does not. I don’t recall what receiver I have in the model off hand, but I’m not using a gyro in this model and I honestly feel that it doesn’t really need it.
That thing sounds sweeeet! Ordnance could push your CG backwards quite a bit. Maybe that's what gave u the down trim on the second flight? I had to move the battery forward quite a bit after adding customized ordnance to my FMS yak 130.
That’s a good call. I don’t recall if the ordnance changes the cg or not, but I didn’t move the battery at all to compensate, so could have moved back a touch. Especially given the placement of them.

Very Cool Chris!! You may need to Build an Actual AIRPLANE HANGER For all your planes soon bro!! Lmao
You’re right! 🤣
👍👍👍
Great flying. Would you ever consider doing a colour change to the full low viz grey on this? I think it would look awesome in grey like the real thing
Thanks! I’ve thought about a repaint a few times. I do prefer the gray vs the stock yellow scheme.
@@Thercgeek come on. Next projet. Repaint in military grey with your skills and video review whilst doing it would be amazing
Chris have you ever put dobro soft tires on a jet?
I’ve swapped tires on lots of airplanes jets included. It’s always a good option given that these foam arfs usually have overly hard tires.
Chris out of Eflite FMS and Freewing which in your opinion is the best? in regards to quality fit and finish reliability etc.?
At the end of the day, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. The latest eflite stuff I’ve been seeing is some of the best out there imo. They’re engineered well, the finish is super smooth and they fly great. This rafale is the only recent fms airplane I’ve played with and I’m quite impressed with quality and finish of it as well. It’s really well done. The freewing stuff is good and they have some excellent flyers, but there are design choices they make that I’m personally not crazy about. Landing gear is one of them but they also tend to glue the servos in vs having them screwed in and more easily maintainable. Also, the elevator servos on their larger stuff tend to be marginal and should almost always be replaced imo.
@@Thercgeek awesome thanks mate 😉👍🏼
Did you use the gyro (reflex) came with the plane?
Nope, it didn’t have the reflex gyro in it. Honestly, it doesn’t need a gyro.
Hey Chris, quick Question, i ordered your Afterburner for the E Flite F18. payment was done on the 2nd of May. I got no email to confirm or Tracking Info from you, checked Spam Folder too. Could you please make any Update on that pls?
As is noted on my website, I’m waiting on a shipment of controllers. They’ve been sitting in customs for over a week now and it’s been killing me. 😕. Once they arrive I will be in full shipping mode again. I apologize for the inconvenience!
We look forward to SOLOTURK 😃🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Geek 👍
Your link to the FMS Rafale 80mm EDF at Horizon is incorrect..
Fixed. Thanks for the heads up! :)
Great jet. Great flying... You show the jet at its best. Others could not fly like that? So what? That is their problem. Not the jet problem, not RcGeek problem. :-)
Haha, thanks man!
Do you take off with flaps?
Nope, no flaps or crow. The model has a flaps/crow function but I highly recommend not using it. It ends up reducing your pitch authority considerably.
What do you do with all the planes that you have built? Have you ever offered to sell them?
Well, i do have limited space. So, I hold on to the ones that I know I’ll fly regularly and then I’ll give others away to folks locally that I know I won’t fly as much.
@@Thercgeek Hey I take donations , I will fly them at my field
What is the cost for this?
It’s about $410. Here’s the link: bit.ly/FMSRafale
First
The fan is a multi-blade fan, so you get woooosh. Not the whine of a 5 or 6 blade fan. But tell me, do you believe the bifurcated exhaust is the reason for that amazing sound from this aircraft?
It’s less the exhaust and more the inlets that’s causing the sound. It’s a pretty dirty installation forward of the fan that results in turbulence entering the fan and that will create more noise as a result.
I don't like how it flies dirty mine flies much better clean.
Agreed, the stores really slow it down considerably.
@@Thercgeek I fly mine down at silent electric handles dirt field great
Nice!
