- I'm working on a review of the new AR10360T receiver (bit.ly/Spktm10chRx) and as a part of that, I've been exploring a more full scale representative flaperon/taileron setup on the E-flite F-16. I have setup aileron/elevator for up and away flying, but for landing am using combination flaperons and tailerons. This allows for gaining more benefit from the flaperon (slower touchdown speed), but helps to maintain the roll control through the use of tailerons. I really like the results as the airplane slows down quite nicely in a nice nose up attitude. I'll have a full run through of setting this and AS3X up in my full talk through of the receiver soon! In the meantime, here's a quick run through and flight demo. #F16Falcon #RCJet #Modifcations

I couple weeks ago I watched Brian Phillips add Flaperons to his xt-7-a and I thought “You know what, it’s been 6 years in the sport, it’s time to broaden your BNF/PNP little world and start trying flaperons and doing some mixing. Flaperons worked so well I added them to every EDF that was flapless. I got so good at it I told everyone at the field to bring their planes or EDF’s next time out and I’d bring servo leads my butane soldering tool and shrink wrap tubing and they too could slow down on landings like me.
For a short time I was walking around like I had found a cure for cancer. And now you decide to add Tailerons to the equation. (Boom! I’m back on the short yellow school bus of RC)
What’s next, Spoilerons?!?!? We’re running out of control surfaces to make me feel more inadequate. I’m quitting the sport if you do a video on Rudderons…
"For a short time I was walking around like I had found a cure for cancer."
lol
Roll right break left, you know the drill. From what I've read the F16 scales down beautifully to model size, and the sound of an 80mm can't be beat. Yeah, I got the hots for that plane.
Yea, F-16s make for good flying models and the eflite is super sweet. IMO, They kind of blend the slow flight of a delta wing with the maneuverability of a more traditional type airplane.
True, you should not use flaps in a crosswind because the slower the plane flies, the worse its crab angle will be. Plus, with only the tailerons for roll control, they may not be enough to correct for wind gusts. Also, put the transmitter's flight modes on the flap/flaperon switch and enable the F-mode trims for aileron and elevator. This will give you separate trims for each position of the flaps/flaperons and you'll be able to trim the plane for all flight modes. No more going in and out of the flap system menu to adjust the elevator mix, plus you get aileron trim.
I can't get over the sound of this beauty! Literally one of the best sounding jets on the market!
Yeah, it sounds extremely authentic. It’s pretty awesome.
Oh yeah... found out how to piss my neighbours off. Authentic sound is an understatement with 6s 7000... ALL DAY
Haha, nice!
Tey the T7a 80mm. Its my best sounding jet in my hanger. Very similar to this
@@M4rkmcc21 yupp I have It too. Sounds amazing!
I survived Gozers return lol Chris, thank you so much for your tireless work keeping us in the know. I have the ARF of this F-16 and I’m going to do exactly what you did here. Brilliant buddy! Thank you
The look, sound and performance…Perfect! 👊🏻🇺🇸
Wow - great timing! put in the EXACT receiver & transmitter setup/config in my e-flite F16! ( used exacto knife to make plugs fit) kept the reverse and a separate nose channel as well including AS3X
The spektrum programming is a bit messy I find - great VID!
😮 the sound on that jet is soooooo freaking cool
Yeah, it sounds really authentic!
So scale, LOVE IT!!
Excellent flying Chris , I fly my 90 mm CF-18 with the same setup
WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!! AWESOME FLAPPAGE ACTION BROTHER!!!
Thanks dude!
Nice work Geek! You've got her landing like a butterfly with Plantar fasciitis!
Hahaha, don’t want to agro that planter! 🤣🤣
Awesome!
Beautiful
If a person were to remove the 80mm fan and do some modifications to accommodate a 90mm fan with a more conical thrust tube, this might be a really fun project jet.
Hey Chris great video. Any idea when you’ll post the video on setting up the reciever and transmitter mainly the transmitter? Wanting to set up my Freewing 90mm F-16. Thanks and love your videos.
It will be a few weeks yet. I’m finalizing my talking points and hoping to film it this week.
@@Thercgeek Sounds good thanks I’ll be waiting
Looks like you got it high alpha as well as the 70!! Impressive
Thanks!
Definitely will need to do that mix.
I really like how it lands with the flaperon/taileron combo. It does require more channels on the receiver though.
@@Thercgeek I happen to have one of those receivers in my C-130.
That's Great! I wonder how it handles a full power go-around before touchdown in that configuration?
It handles that no problem. I had a couple of those also, but didn’t put them in the vid.
I love this!…
Thanks! 😊
you do nice work friend ; )
Thank you! 😊
👍👍👍
Hi Chris, great setup! Sorry if I missed it, where is your CG at please? Did you increase elevator travel compared to the user manual?
I have all of that information in my review. I couldn’t tell you what it is off hand, but the cg is definitely further back than recommended. Thercgeek.com/eff16
@@Thercgeek Thanks! sorry should have looked there first.
No worries. 😊
I think you should do a elite twin otter review... I'm thinking about getting it for Christmas
Unfortunately not sure that will happen. 😬
Hey brother just a quick question that's off this topic, but I have the twin 64mm Eflite A10 and wanted to add some of your afterburner LED's to it. I checked out your website and products but wasn't sure if the ones you have are compatible with my model, do you have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance.
My twin 64mm outrunner miniburner system would be the correct choice for that one. Note that I’m waiting on a shipment of controller that’s due in a couple weeks. So, I will be able to ship orders again at that time and will do so in the order received. Thanks!
@@Thercgeek thanks again brother, I'll be getting that order in pretty soon.
I definitely need to add elevons to mine
it just has no authority if I use the flaperons (which ofc I have to because they're cool)
but also I need more authority in general, I'm at the max throws they suggested, and it still feels sluggish to me
but this is my first plane with as3x so im scared to just change the horn position as idk how it'll react
Changing the horn positions should be fine. The other option is to start increasing the end points in the radio above 100%.
Have you tried to activate elevon function with stock receiver?
I only played with flaperons with the stock receiver. There’s only one spare channel with the stock receiver, so you can only choose one desired function.
What flying field is this, looks nice!?
This is the Wingmasters field here in San Diego. It’s great little field.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍
I set up flaperons on my 6 ch stock receiver by replacing the BEC on ch6 with one of the ail channels, formerly on the y splitter. The flaps extend symmetrically but I've noticed that, with flap extended, the right aileron now has a greater range of movement. However both ranges are equal with flap up. A bit strange and I'm not sure how I could fix this. Did you notice this??
Try adjusting the maximum flap deflection reducing it until they both match. I noticed if I commanded too much in the flap menu that it would do that with the stick setup.
I know this comment / question is late to the party but what measurement of movement do you suggest for both the takeoff and landing flaperon. Thanks for your help.
For landings, I went for the max I could get. Partial flap I don’t recall. This is the video I made showing the full programming that I did czcams.com/video/MMZr3tqOgfI/video.html
Do the ailerons and elevators need to be controlled separately and then mixed?
If you are wanting to setup the flaperons and tailerons, yes. I showed how I did that here: czcams.com/video/MMZr3tqOgfI/video.html
What gyro gains did you use on this tailerons switch ?
I simply replicated the gains that were in the bnf. I don’t recall exactly what those were offhand, but I went through it all in detail in this vid czcams.com/video/MMZr3tqOgfI/video.html
Like the way you said nose up attitude instead of high alpha.
They definitely describe two different regimes. 😊
@@Thercgeek Exactly. The word is way over used and Misused. Love the vids Chris.
You like this or the FMS Rafale better?
Oh, that is a tough question! Both fly equally well, but I think I may prefer the F-16 a little more. The performance is overall a touch better and is a little more nimble and axial in its maneuvering.
If I change out the 6ch RX to an 8ch, could I have flaperons and still use the reverse thrust? Oh, welcome to TN. I'm a Cali transplant also.
I believe that you can. What radio are you using?
@@Thercgeek NX8
You don't need to. You can set up reverse thrust and flaperons with the 6ch rx. Just not elevons. Check out BrianPhillipsRC channel for the how to.
How do I set up flaperons? I've tried a bunch of times without any sucess
I showed how I set this up here: czcams.com/video/MMZr3tqOgfI/video.html
You think this is a good one for beginners? any recommendation
A jet like this is not meant for beginners. It’s something you want to work up to. My go to recommendation for learning is the aeroscout. It’s a great trainer! bit.ly/AeroScoutRTF
Thank's for the info
Would you have a more detailed video on the radio setup as you kinda just gloss over it .
Did u make the programming video yet
Yeah, it’s here: Spektrum AR10360T Receiver Review, E-flite F-16 Custom Programming, & AS3X Setup | The RC Geek

OK just saw this thank u very much sorry for the duplicate post
Amazing flight. How risky is a plane this size if something went wrong and it hit me while I was flying it?
Wondering as I am currently looking into rc safety as I prepare to complete further stages of training in flight systems.
Depending on the speed it could definitely knock you over, but nothing fatal is likely. It’s a big chunk of styrofoam, the only dangerous parts might be the battery, motor, and carbon fiber wing tube.
They are called ELEVONS, when you use the elevators as a combination of elevators, and ailerons.
Right. Since they’re are a full flying tail, the term taileron does get used as well.
I too am a know it all... therefore I have to say they are also called "Tailerons" Tailerons are associated with conventional wing/stabilizer planform...to distinguish from Elevons as is typically on a Delta planform...and i will raise you a Wikipedia link...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elevon
Stabilators aren't called elevons.
@@TwoBrosRC : When you combine elevators with Ailerons: They ARE called ELEVONS !! Be ignorant if you wish, but I am a Pilot: So I KNOW what I am talking about. Take THAT DOOFUS !!🤪😝😜
@@Air-Jon : YAWN 🥱 😴 🙄 😒 😑
Combine this with thrust reverse. You could do some real short landings.
Can deme too much talks. You don’t have too do so much mixing
