- I just wanted to show you guys how to safely back up your save files to prevent you from having issues with hackers online. Its also nice if you make mistakes in NPC quest-lines or really any reason you might have to want to revert your character before said mistake was made.

1.) find your .sl file by typing %appdata% in the search bar
1.i.) you can pin your Elden Ring save folder to Quick Access for future accessibility
2.) copy-paste the .sl file into a clearly labelled back-up folder in either your Cdrive, external drive or Google drive.
3.) at the end of any session you want to reload your back-up,Alt+f4 your game then copy-paste it from your back-up folder into your Elden Ring save folder

CAUTION: do not share .sl file to or from friends for online play. They will get you banned. Also do not download any "Mule" files from Nexus Mods, they will also get you banned :)

This helped a lot. I got lord of frenzied flame my first playthrough (did Ranni questline 100%) powered my way through NG+ and did this to get my last 2 endings. I got 100% of achievements! Thank you!
itâs come to my attention that a certain hacker i alluded to can now bypass EAC online, now is more important than ever to make back-ups!
EAC is absurdly easy to get around if you know what you are doing. I mean itâs better than nothing but the people who have experience dodging bans are mostly unaffected

do you have any idea why i might only have 1 save file in that folder when i have 2 characters. main character has 120 hours and my other has 27 hours

Thank you! I really wanted to have some peace of mind before starting NG+ just in case I wanted to finish up more content on journey 1. This allowed me to have a return point if NG+ clapped me and I wanted to do some more farming lol

You mention a lot of useful scenarios, the thing I use it the most for is duping items for friends, for example I got some drops or some quest rewards, that my friend didn't, and then I just backup my save, drop them the item, then re load my back up, and then I have my item again and they have one also.

My level 150 character that Iâve put 86 hours into just got itâs save file corrupted cause I ended up invading some hackers. Iâm attempting to fix the save file and Iâll be making a backup thanks to your help.
yeah it really sucks, iâve been making back-ups since i lost my progression in DS3 due to hackers .
Wasted my 6-7 hours losing all of the runes because of frequent deaths. You are a life saver pal. I used to do exact thing with Sekiro - Shadows die twice.

I wish I could like this video a million times. Having gotten myself up to level 175 and a couple hundred hours, I would hate to have a hacker come to my game now. I've seen them popping up more and more.

Just wanted to let you know the hackers did get the save corruption working, unknowingly summoned a hacker into my game a few days ago, as soon as we entered boss arena he flew up in the sky and out of bounds, and then the boss slowly levitated before freezing in mid air. As soon as the boss died I black screened. When I went to load the game back up steam said the save file was corrupted.

@@shiryobukai4634 wait until your character dies, and the second you load back in, alt f4 out of the game. relaunch the game and then the second you load back in press Map > Triangle (y) > X (A for xbox)
pretty much when you load in, you want to open the map and quickly teleport to the roundtable bonfire. you'll have about 3 seconds or so to do so to get out of the infinite death loop. if you mess up, you're gonna have to alt+f4 when youre character reloads in and try it again.
@@SonGoku5363 my friend is who got hacked, and he said he can't open his map so this doesn't work. he spent over an hour trying.

Yeah like the deathbed Smalls can get you banned, but for one of the reasons to get backup saves is to get all ending in one playthrough I got ending first playthrough, I will get another ending second playthrough the frenzied flame but itâs too complicated since I can use the usb flash drive since itâs a ps5 game so I will just do another playthrough and get the trophy it will still count
Im here because my trash pc sometime sudden fronze or auto shutdown when play elden ring, and my lvl98 save file corrupted. Long gone. Game is good but got punish by having trash pc is so painful, hopefully this backup method will help my next character

ah yeah, so long as you made the back-up before defeating said boss, this is what i do

eyo i have played trough the game with a friend on his pc, because my pc was broken for 3 weeks. Now i can play the game but i want to start with ng + without playing it completly trough again. Is it possible to take the save file of my friend where we have our shared character and to import it to mine? So that i can NG + with him together?
if you use your friendâs save file youâll get banned, but you can do it.

Dont worry NG+ in souls games is always way easier than your first play through.
@@sv_sup6661 not true, each ng+ increases the difficulty and increases runes received by 550%
@@totalanonymous8180 He means its easier because youre already leveled, which is very true. Each enemy might individually be stronger, but the difference between you and the enemy is so much greater on NG+

How does this work if you have multiple characters? Does it contain the saves for both of them or only for one?

Here comes a question. If for example, I reinstall my PC and the local files are more up to date than the ones saved by the steam cloud, I can replace the Steam save file with my local one without any problem right?

Is this going to cause an issue with the Steam cloud save Syncronization I decide to replace the file that is syncr. with the cloud with the backup copy?
Also are you sure that it will not cause problems with the anticheat since it's about changin game files?
backing up with *your own* file is fine.

copy the whole folder i tried his stuff now the game ignores my backups and just loads me in right after the last cutscene not before choosing the end
you did something wrong then.
Is it possible to paste the copied file into the same folder to make a copy of your already existing character, without any game complications? I'm at lvl 100 something ish with a dex/arcane built. But I've gotten a few spells that I wanna use with a different build by Rebirthing, without losing what I already have on my character.
AFAIK you can't paste the .SL file in the Game folder to have 2 files in there. Your game can only run 1 .SL file at a time.
Instead, make a back-up then rebirth yourself and play around with the spells. When you're finished just reload your back-up and you'll be back at your pre-rebirth state. You can have practically infinite builds this way. This is what ChasetheBro and Scott Jund do to have infinite PvP builds.

How can I store multiple save files? I already have one at Morgott and I want to have one at Malenia and just before final boss to get all endings. Iâve seen speedrunners have multiple but when I try to add the Malenia one itâs saying I have to replace the Morgott one. Any help?
just create a new folder to create a new back up in somewhere else on your PC.
i have a folder called âBossesâ, then for each boss i have another folder i put the .sl file for each boss in its own folder

Can this be used to do infinite respecs for pvp? Say I make a backup and then I spend a larval tear for a new build and play around with it a bit but then I can just load up the old save?

Do you guys know if I can get banned from multiplayer for doing this? Lets say i beat godfrey, do a backup save, then go kill renala and my game crashes and gets corrupted. I'll lose progress but at least not that much when i restore that old file save after i kill godfrey. Will i get banned or flagged by multiplayers server?
No. Backing up savefile is fine. but i would make more recent back-ups rather than 1 per demigod. anytime you progress the game and feel confident everything is how you like it.
How do you create shortcut on desktop where you dont have to type in %appdata%

Wasn't this considered a bannable offense back in DS3? I want to back up my saves so I can try new builds without wasting Larval tears but I'd really not want to risk being able to play with friends.
this didnât get you banned in DS3. anyone who got banned was probably doing something else too.
itâs important to make back ups because a certain hacker, whom i allude to in this video, has recently been able to get Cheat Engine to work on Elden Ring. and while he canât do it online yet,,, i believe itâs only a matter of time.
this is why i thought it important to make and release this video.

is the sl file always the same name? I want to have many backups of my character at various levels saved to save time on making invasion characters. I'll have to change file names for organization and change them back later.
put them in different sub-folders, and name the folders the name of the build :)

I do NOT recommend you keep ANY files saved in your recycling bin. This is bad practice. You should not use your recycling bin for storage. Use literally any other spot on your computer.
Hell, you could even just make a new folder within your Elden Ring folder and call it "backups"
Even if you uninstall Elden Ring via Steam, this folder will still remain as it is not part of the game's file structure.

you delete things, they go there for a period of time before being deleted permanently. itâs just how it works.

I don't play Elden Ring, but I have been considering backing up my Witcher 3 saves before uninstalling and deleting my game's steam folder before reinstalling. My goal is to refresh the game from mods without ruining my save file. Now, could I simply moving the gamesaves folder from my Witcher 3 documents to my desktop, delete the documents folder along with TW3 steam folder, reinstall the entire game, and move the gamesaves back into the documents folder?

I can't find my save file. I dint have my elden ring on the same drive as my steam install. I searched through the user data files but i can't find anything about elden ring in it.
Windows 11. going to try this method shortly. Hopefully i can actually find it. I want to install the new mod but don't want to lose my current character.
try typing %appdata% in your Start search. if it's not in your AppData folder, then i don't know where you've installed it then

@@nicolasgonzalez9538 yea It worked, I just did everything up until the last boss. Made a save with the frenzy, got rid of the frenzy and then beat the boss until I was in the room where you pick the ends and made a save there. You only get an achievement from the frenz, ranni and normal ending.

@@juby019 yea just make the save after you finish the last boss then put your save into a folder so you can just keep overriding the original once you select an end.

This worked the first time but when i went back to do it again, the file in AppData says it is no longer located there. Any ideas?
You must have cut your save file if your on pv and its just gone unfortunately. I have used this method way brfore this video was posted...im actually looking for a way to duplicate my save character so i dont have to rebirth or completely start over myself but its challenging.

you can do this. some people do this to have 20-30 characters. just be careful and remember which file is which
