Thank you so much. I have a small lawn care business and have been using the srm225 for three years. Haven’t had a problem until now. I am 15 and still learning about lawn car but this video helped me from buying a new carb
Respect little man...Positive ambitious, you are your own boss, .. Stay focused, Keep Christ 1st, and things will work out..........
That is amazing Jacob!! I apologize for late comment! But im glad to have read this from you. Hope youre doing well! take care
I find that if you keep your cell phone handy, you can take pictures of the disassembly process which helps when reassembling intricate components.
I appreciate your video. Repair shop is 5 weeks behind and I have customers that can't wait that long. Exactly what I needed. :)
5 yrs later ma man i look up this problem and i find you and ya showed me how to fix my weed eater gracias amigo
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it. Always here to help
Picked up an echo trimmer today, bad boy is a beast! Great video!
Fantastic !!
Hell yeah dude, i thought it was going to be a PITA at first, but since like the guy below said, i took pics every step of the way it was simple, now i have to do the same with my Troy Bilt TB554. My assumption is it is similar just a bigger carb. Thanks so much man.
Thank you.. You are saving me a trip to the repair shop...Great video..
Great vid man, walked me through the process and got my trimmer working like new again no problems.

You’re welcome
Ayyyy. It worked! Lol. $4 can of carb cleaner and 25 minutes later, I’m back in business. Ended up removing the top cover so I could get a wrench on the spark plug (didn’t want to buy a new socket for this) I also removed the fuel tank and cleaned it out. I appreciate the vid!
no prob! sounds like you know what youre doing! glad to hear your comment
Good vid I’ve been doing this for a while
Great vid. Very clear instruction. Thanks a lot man!
So happy you understand:) thanks friend
Thank you for this video!!
This video has been incredibly helpful; thanks a lot!
Thansk for taking the time man 👍
No problem 👍 Anytime!
Well done!! 👍
Thank you so much. Followed step by step and it works again
Awesome! I'm glad it's working again.
Hey GTE. Aside from the back and forth on the camera the two things I see are: You are not wearing nitrile gloves and you don't stress eye protection when spraying the carb cleaner on the carb.. This stuff is nothing to play with and you're getting it on your hands and what else. You're taking your time and that is a good thing and also documenting what goes where and how. Otherwise good video.
Thank you! You are awesome!
Good job on the video
Excellent video…great camera work 💪👏
Thanks
good job, bro , thanks for the video
no problem man :)

That is fantastic!! Hope you’re having fun with it :)
Good job man
Thank you brother
Thanks brother really good video
Thank you sir 🙏🏼
Great video.
Thanks for this
Thank for the wonderful comment
Man, you did that sitting indian style. My legs hurt just from watching, lol. Awesome video, it'll definitely help with a SRM 260S I found sitting out for trash pickup.
Wow you’re lucky!! Good luck
@@GreenThumbEngines got it working same day! runs great. I wonder why they threw it out.
It is "nearly" a moot point when facing a small carb with apparent fuel problems. Spelled e-t-h-a-n-o-l. Carbs can be removed disassembled, cleaned, and re built--if you have the inclination and time on your hands. Kits are readily available but in many cases the kits are similar in price to buying a new carb on eBay. But that is your choice and there is no better was to learn something and that is by doing it--and making the head-scratcher silly errors along the way. However, with knockoff carbs and critical parts available for a pittance, it might be educational to try to DYI one way or the other. Gaskets and hoses dry out, crack, leak and then you have a fuel deficit issue.
Start by clearing off your well-lit bench, cleaning it, and placing a plastic sheet down if you do not wish to have fuel on your bench top (not kitchen table). Put on reasonably dextrous gloves (handling the fuel inlet spring is like an elephant holding (properly, mind you--pinkie extended) a tea cup, because fuel and carb cleaner wreaks havoc on virginal skin. Watch a few youtube videos to determine which tools you will need and like a well organized surgeon you will have the proper tools at your beck and well--meaning your are more likely to finish what you started and not end up with an incomplete task (like removing the frame of a broken window, bringing it to the glass shop and leaving it there just long enough for your carb reassembly memory to dissipate--or likewise a surgeon removing the wrong leg. Photo every step of any rebuild, plastic bag and label any complex part assemblies because inevitably during recon/reno you will get drawn away to another project, trimmer will remain disassembled, and a part or two will "diappear," so you're hamstrung when you finally get around to reassembling it.
Ethanol in fuel is evil and was designed to f'up small carbs. I think the oil companies own stock in the Carburetor companies. Given time - not much time at all- small carb jets clog very easily. Yes, you should check the BIG three: AIR clogged filter results in rich mixture--flooding and fouling spark plug. "Clean" unvarnished fuel and delivery. Spark: Plugs do go bad but not very often but new one's come in the carb kits (compromised plug wire, sheared flywheel pin, or a shorted on/off switch).
There is nothing sweeter than a rebuilt trimmer that starts on first pull.
Of, when you buy your fel treat (stabilize it) with Sta-bil, and if you have a lot of equipment like I do remembering the fue/oil mixture becomes a quandary (I used to write it on tank and date fuel fill-up, but now I use Opti-1 oil additive that requires 2 pumps (pump sold separately) per gallon and the resulting mixture works with ANY mixture, 30-1/40-1/50-1. True, just don't ask me why.
Lastly, clean, top off fuel--tighten cap of fuel will go bye bye, and properly store your trimmer. A clean trimmer is far easier to inspect for damage or to prepare for PREemptive maintenance--before it fails.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Good job
thank you very much!! and i hope you enjoy the upcoming holidays!!! cheers
good job bro
Thank you!! :)
Been trying to start my echo, it WILL NOT START. Gonna try this ASAP.
Thanks good video 👍
Damn I appreciate that 🙏🏼 Thank you.
Thank you
Yes sir! Thanks for commenting!
Thanks man
No problem
Thanks
Awesome you can see the gasket come off. Beautiful, I get the full picture
Hello from Australia🇦🇺. Great video mate. Mate I totally agree working on your own equipment gives a lot of satisfaction and saves a lot of stress. Mate I heard that carby cleaner affects and degrades plastic and rubber so I'm real worried about using it on my small engine carbies. How long have you been doing this and have you ever experienced any issues as a result of using carby cleaner?
Im not sure how long. I guess ever since 2017 I been cleaning it with carb cleaner. It works very good. Just make sure to take off the rubber gaskets first before you spray the carb and you should be ok. The carb is pure metal if you take it off the unit (spray the heck out of it). Wear glasses and gloves too. It’s not good to get that on your skin or eye.
@@GreenThumbEngines Thanks for the reply. Yeah will do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge it's much appreciated.👍 Peaceout! ✌️
Bro, you just saved me $100 in a “tune up” I imagine they do what you just did and replaced the 2 cardboard gaskets wow😮
Im glad the video helped out a lot with savings! I appreciate your comment. Made my day.
@@GreenThumbEngines send me your Venmo 😂
@@edyue1 Haha I dont have venmo. I have paypal though its Ruizr10@att.net
When I cleaned mine I took the throttle cable off and took the carb completely apart
yeah i take it apart too. i remove all the gaskets and spray in the screen and in every port. makes it start up nice you just bought it
perfect ,thank you
hell yeah, no problem. thanks for commenting :D and enjoy the holidays!!!
If you are just using this around your yard....Take the spark arrestor out. They get clogged up and will bog down the engine.
i use it for lawn care. i love this thing. i havent removed anything from it. i just clean it and place it back on the unit. its a beast especially with the black diamond string by echo. I love that string
What are you spraying it with? Air cleaner or something else. Thank you for the video
Carburetor cleaner. Bought at any auto parts store for like $3
I think I’m going to try this. Mine turns on e everything ok. When I push throttle it stalls
You might have the lever switch on the choke position after you crank it on 😊 .. check near the prime bulb area and you should see a tiny lever you can move up or down. Try moving the lever in opposite position when you find it, then turn it on and pull the throttle to see if it still stalls. Let me know
good video... ever have problems with the fuel filter?
Nope, haven’t had problems with a fuel filter ever in my life. I’ve even let gas sit in my weed eaters, hedge trimmers, and backpack blowers, for like 2 years and still crank it up no problem. I just prime it like 20 times before I even crank it and it starts up like nothing by the 3rd pull. So long as the spark is ok and fuel is reaching, it will turn over no doubt 🙂
Now the primer bulb won't prime has too much pressure. I cleaned the base primer assembly still no luck
Not sure why it would have too much pressure. Maybe it has to do with the gasket and diaphragm. Did you make sure this is on correctly? That has to do with the primer bulb pressure.
After I did this my primer bulb won’t depress like it’s blocked. I can’t get it clear. Any ideas?
You might of put the carburetor gasket on the wrong way. If it’s on the wrong way the prime bulb won’t suck any gas or might not come back once you press it in. Try taking carburetor off again and switching the gaskets to the prime bulb and put it back together and try it out. Let me know
Could you tell me what kind of ratchet say you have? Also great video really help
check the description if you need a ratchet set. I think I have a 1/2'' im not sure, maybe more or less. It doesnt matter the size of the ratchet, what matters is the socket size when you need to take off somthing. good luck friend
What spray are you using to clean the carb?
Carburetor cleaner
Thanks for the video, just relpaced air filter/plug/fuel filter/fuel lines and it dies when I tilt it sideways. Someone said they think something in the cabr might be sticking, and I realized we never cleaned the carb in eight years.
the high and low rev screws might need adjusting if you replaced everything new. If you havent cleaned the carb then maybe that could be contributing to it for sure. Might not be getting fuel when you tilt it over, so yeah. your carb might be clogged with dirt or build up. try giving it a clean for now and see what happens. the fuel flow will improve dramatically. youll be able to flip that thing all kinds of ways once its clean and getting fuel every time you prime it. let me know
I cleaned the hell out of the carb and it wouldn't start at all. I just ordered a new carb for 15$ off amazon. It's very possible during disassembly I damaged one of the valves or something. It is now going to be the backup weedeater to a Shindaiwa T262 or 282
Something simple to check when you tilt it and it dies-possibly the fuel filter has disconnected in the tank and it doesn't sink to the bottom of the fuel
I have had my echo srm-210 for 17+ years, and it just went out.
starts and then stops.....
not sure if I should buy a new one or buy a new carburetor....
Well it could be all sorts of things. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is, but you can try checking the spark plug tip to see if it’s black, if so, clean it to bare metal. You can also just clean the carb, no need to buy a new one. You can take the muffler off and see if the spark arrestor is clogged, if so, clean it with a wire brush. The spark arrestor is a small little screen for your information. Can also spray the fuel filter clean with carburetor cleaner. If all else fails, you can take the head off and scrap the top of the piston to bare metal if it’s purely black.
If it starts then stops, that means it still definitely works
yea like greenthumb said,
if it still start and runs, then stops, its more than likely just a carb issue/fuel isnt getting to it enough, or the spark plug isnt getting spark consistently to light the fuel
I gotta do this to mine tonite or tomorrow. My carb is dirty weed eater runs so poorly
i hope you've done it. matter of fact, i wish i could of done it for you haha :)
What about adjusting the hidden jets?
hmmm.. im not sure what you mean when you say hidden jets. can you explain please. im interested
czcams.com/video/JBrFcpYYEEo/video.html. There are a lot of CZcams videos on this subject. This is just one the showed what to do fairly well. There is another hidden chamber inside the carb on the needle valve side that can only be accessed by removing a Welsh plug. It has a one way flow ball seal that can get gummed and stuck open. It should only allow fuel to move in one direction. If it's stuck fuel will only move back and forth without going in the design ped direction.
I never clean my carbs out, it’s cheaper to buy them at amazon for $17 and you get a new rebuild carb with an air filter and a spark plug...It’s cheap than spending time clean and have to put it back together and hope you did it right.....
I love diagnosing things and taking things apart. Especially when it comes to cleaning the carb. Because it lets me know what the problem is. Nothing wrong with doing what you love to do.
Unfortunately those cheap ones you get on Amazon are Chinese knockoffs, not real Zamas, and you have about a 1 in 2 chance of getting one that won't work at all (believe me I know from experience). Not saying don't do it, just know what to expect.
Also, it's a good idea to remove the needle and clean it and the jet underneath. Just be careful of the spring
What is the little white tube that on the gas line
Are you talking about the cap at the end of the black hose I think? The cap that’s closed? You know, I’m not sure. Might be an overflow thing or something. I couldn’t tell you. I have to get my weed eater and take a look at it. Seems interesting. Thanks for the heads up
The white thing is air vent on the gas line
what spray did he use to clean tge carburator?
Carburetor cleaner spray. This is what I used to clean the carburetor amzn.to/3dBgSKn
Hey thanks for the video, but now the nipple has a suction problem, it keeps getting stuck and idk y!
Ah, you might have the black rubber gaskets the wrong way on the carburetor. Try taking it apart and flip the gaskets around, put one on top of the other and try it, if still doesn’t suck, try reversing it again. That suction problem is definitely the gaskets put on the wrong way. Guna take a lot of trial and error to find the right way. Remember to take pictures so your not in a loop
fixed, seems like there was metal shards where the inlet for the gas goes in the plastic white-ish piece. i just used a pick set to clean it out.
I remember with my older model i would take the carburetor off as you did but would clean the build up inaide where that black is where the carburetor was attached. With this model its built Diffrent. Right now the weedeater won't stay on full throttle it bogs down once you give it gas. I have to stay playing with the choke to keep it running with enough power to get a good cut and keep from bogging down. What do I do?
the carburetor itself might need to be taken apart and sprayed with carburetor cleaning. Or it might need adjusting on the 'high and low' rev screws. where are you from
GreenThumbEngines I'm in hollywood
nigga, if thats you. i was in life skills with you lol wtf lol at the conte. its ruiz lol
GreenThumbEngines bro I even said that sound like his slay in bedass all day tall lanky nd call me 9543948859
GreenThumbEngines bro I'm dying in laughter what a small world call me
Do you have to adjust the carb needles??
No you don’t. Only if the machine is really really really old then yeah you might have to adjust them to break the dry rust on the needle and find a new idle
what is the spray you used ?
Carburetor cleaner. You can find them in the description.
A way to remember fuel line input to carb orientation is the INside against engine is INput from tank. IN goes to IN. Now just look into tank to see which line is filtered and that input! Colors of fuel line should never be trusted as a specific orientation.
thanks for the tip friend!! :) good call
Love how he assembles the gaskets off camera. Way to keep us in suspense and not show us anything...lol
love your sarcasm lol sorry for doing it off camera. my production skills sucked at the moment of making this video while working on the machine to repair everything lol at least i tried lol ill make a better one next time. :)
Hand covering discretion of fluid covered.
Just disassembled and cleaned my carb for the same model on this video. Bought the tune up kit, replaced with new s.plug new air filter and new fuel filter. It will not start. Noticed fuel spitting out the muffler, the system seamed flooded. Any advise to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.
check this video out. czcams.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=JCp8ktLpMy8 You are probably right. The system is probably flooded. Follow the steps on the video i shared here. There may be a lot of oil and sludge on top of the piston which isnt giving the spark plug the spark to get it started. The piston top has to be bare metal. Once way you can check is to take out the spark plug and look in the whole. Then pull the starter cord slowly till you see the piston come up close to the whole and check how it looks. If its really black then follow the video. But regardless, if its spitting fuel out of the muffler, follow the video and remove all the oil and fuel from the inside of the engine. Just follow the video carefully and let me know if you have any problems. Stop if it gets difficult and take a break and go back to it later.
@@GreenThumbEngines hole not whole.
First thing you need to do is disconnect the throttle cable so you work on the damn thing...
sounds like a good idea :)
T25 is torx.. not hex. Just sayin' Thanks for the video.
Why you didn’t take needle out and clean . That’s were the dirt cause the most problems.
What do you mean. What needle
It’s actually t-27 screw bit. Js
maybe youre wrong, maybe youre right lol I just dont know anymore.
✊🏼
my man!
How you clean the air filter?
You can simple hold it in your hand knock it against something. Or if it’s oily just use a napkin or towel to dry and wipe it abusively to clean it off
🤝🤝😁
Hey. You forgot to pull the needle and seat and for $2.00 buy a spark plug. Nice job, but camera movements made me dizzy. Lol
Haha sorry about that lol
You always clean po ut the Needle
What did you say
I did that and now my font even run lol
You might of put the gaskets on wrong lol
If you wanna learn how to do everything wrong and learn what not to do ...this is your video
I wonder why my echo srm 225 weed eater still works till this day lol hmmmnn let me think. It can’t be from this video. Maybe it’s from elephants or desks. NO! Ice scream, that’s what it was. Lingerie. Yeaah. I remember.. it was because of cow shit crocodiles. Storm. Phantom megaplex 106. Thank you no thank you. Oh did I waste your time. Maybe I should keep going. @@GreenThumbEngines lol, now i remember .. this video was like watching someone fo work and put hand over the lens when it mattered. Lol.
This is not the way to clean the carburetor this is incorrect I know someone who tried this and it didn't work they had to take their weed eater to the shop ... this video is a waste of time
That is exactly what they are going to do in the shop lol what else would they do? Fix a roof on the house? Paint a pony? Lol in this video you clearly see me taking the “carburetor” off the unit and dismantling it to spray it down clean. Lol you’re just ignorant because it came from me and not you
@@GreenThumbEngines you ignorant and so is your video
But that is not how you clean a carb
Seems to work for me. I don’t know how to clean it any other way than taking the carburetor off and spraying it clean
