    Hey GTE. Aside from the back and forth on the camera the two things I see are: You are not wearing nitrile gloves and you don't stress eye protection when spraying the carb cleaner on the carb.. This stuff is nothing to play with and you're getting it on your hands and what else. You're taking your time and that is a good thing and also documenting what goes where and how. Otherwise good video.

    It is "nearly" a moot point when facing a small carb with apparent fuel problems. Spelled e-t-h-a-n-o-l. Carbs can be removed disassembled, cleaned, and re built--if you have the inclination and time on your hands. Kits are readily available but in many cases the kits are similar in price to buying a new carb on eBay. But that is your choice and there is no better was to learn something and that is by doing it--and making the head-scratcher silly errors along the way. However, with knockoff carbs and critical parts available for a pittance, it might be educational to try to DYI one way or the other. Gaskets and hoses dry out, crack, leak and then you have a fuel deficit issue.
    Start by clearing off your well-lit bench, cleaning it, and placing a plastic sheet down if you do not wish to have fuel on your bench top (not kitchen table). Put on reasonably dextrous gloves (handling the fuel inlet spring is like an elephant holding (properly, mind you--pinkie extended) a tea cup, because fuel and carb cleaner wreaks havoc on virginal skin. Watch a few youtube videos to determine which tools you will need and like a well organized surgeon you will have the proper tools at your beck and well--meaning your are more likely to finish what you started and not end up with an incomplete task (like removing the frame of a broken window, bringing it to the glass shop and leaving it there just long enough for your carb reassembly memory to dissipate--or likewise a surgeon removing the wrong leg. Photo every step of any rebuild, plastic bag and label any complex part assemblies because inevitably during recon/reno you will get drawn away to another project, trimmer will remain disassembled, and a part or two will "diappear," so you're hamstrung when you finally get around to reassembling it.
    Ethanol in fuel is evil and was designed to f'up small carbs. I think the oil companies own stock in the Carburetor companies. Given time - not much time at all- small carb jets clog very easily. Yes, you should check the BIG three: AIR clogged filter results in rich mixture--flooding and fouling spark plug. "Clean" unvarnished fuel and delivery. Spark: Plugs do go bad but not very often but new one's come in the carb kits (compromised plug wire, sheared flywheel pin, or a shorted on/off switch).
    There is nothing sweeter than a rebuilt trimmer that starts on first pull.
    Of, when you buy your fel treat (stabilize it) with Sta-bil, and if you have a lot of equipment like I do remembering the fue/oil mixture becomes a quandary (I used to write it on tank and date fuel fill-up, but now I use Opti-1 oil additive that requires 2 pumps (pump sold separately) per gallon and the resulting mixture works with ANY mixture, 30-1/40-1/50-1. True, just don't ask me why.
    Lastly, clean, top off fuel--tighten cap of fuel will go bye bye, and properly store your trimmer. A clean trimmer is far easier to inspect for damage or to prepare for PREemptive maintenance--before it fails.

    Hello from Australia🇦🇺. Great video mate. Mate I totally agree working on your own equipment gives a lot of satisfaction and saves a lot of stress. Mate I heard that carby cleaner affects and degrades plastic and rubber so I'm real worried about using it on my small engine carbies. How long have you been doing this and have you ever experienced any issues as a result of using carby cleaner?

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 3 lety +3

      Im not sure how long. I guess ever since 2017 I been cleaning it with carb cleaner. It works very good. Just make sure to take off the rubber gaskets first before you spray the carb and you should be ok. The carb is pure metal if you take it off the unit (spray the heck out of it). Wear glasses and gloves too. It’s not good to get that on your skin or eye.

      Nope, haven’t had problems with a fuel filter ever in my life. I’ve even let gas sit in my weed eaters, hedge trimmers, and backpack blowers, for like 2 years and still crank it up no problem. I just prime it like 20 times before I even crank it and it starts up like nothing by the 3rd pull. So long as the spark is ok and fuel is reaching, it will turn over no doubt 🙂

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 2 lety

      Not sure why it would have too much pressure. Maybe it has to do with the gasket and diaphragm. Did you make sure this is on correctly? That has to do with the primer bulb pressure.

  • @daxathon

      You might of put the carburetor gasket on the wrong way. If it’s on the wrong way the prime bulb won’t suck any gas or might not come back once you press it in. Try taking carburetor off again and switching the gaskets to the prime bulb and put it back together and try it out. Let me know

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 6 lety

      the high and low rev screws might need adjusting if you replaced everything new. If you havent cleaned the carb then maybe that could be contributing to it for sure. Might not be getting fuel when you tilt it over, so yeah. your carb might be clogged with dirt or build up. try giving it a clean for now and see what happens. the fuel flow will improve dramatically. youll be able to flip that thing all kinds of ways once its clean and getting fuel every time you prime it. let me know

    • @kirkthebeerslinger

      Something simple to check when you tilt it and it dies-possibly the fuel filter has disconnected in the tank and it doesn't sink to the bottom of the fuel

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 5 lety

      Well it could be all sorts of things. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is, but you can try checking the spark plug tip to see if it’s black, if so, clean it to bare metal. You can also just clean the carb, no need to buy a new one. You can take the muffler off and see if the spark arrestor is clogged, if so, clean it with a wire brush. The spark arrestor is a small little screen for your information. Can also spray the fuel filter clean with carburetor cleaner. If all else fails, you can take the head off and scrap the top of the piston to bare metal if it’s purely black.

    • @KeldanByrd
      @KeldanByrd Před 5 lety

      yea like greenthumb said,
      if it still start and runs, then stops, its more than likely just a carb issue/fuel isnt getting to it enough, or the spark plug isnt getting spark consistently to light the fuel

      czcams.com/video/JBrFcpYYEEo/video.html. There are a lot of CZcams videos on this subject. This is just one the showed what to do fairly well. There is another hidden chamber inside the carb on the needle valve side that can only be accessed by removing a Welsh plug. It has a one way flow ball seal that can get gummed and stuck open. It should only allow fuel to move in one direction. If it's stuck fuel will only move back and forth without going in the design ped direction.

    I never clean my carbs out, it’s cheaper to buy them at amazon for $17 and you get a new rebuild carb with an air filter and a spark plug...It’s cheap than spending time clean and have to put it back together and hope you did it right.....

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 5 lety +1

    • @gustavgretel7032
      @gustavgretel7032 Před 5 lety

      Unfortunately those cheap ones you get on Amazon are Chinese knockoffs, not real Zamas, and you have about a 1 in 2 chance of getting one that won't work at all (believe me I know from experience). Not saying don't do it, just know what to expect.
      Also, it's a good idea to remove the needle and clean it and the jet underneath. Just be careful of the spring

      Ah, you might have the black rubber gaskets the wrong way on the carburetor. Try taking it apart and flip the gaskets around, put one on top of the other and try it, if still doesn’t suck, try reversing it again. That suction problem is definitely the gaskets put on the wrong way. Guna take a lot of trial and error to find the right way. Remember to take pictures so your not in a loop

      fixed, seems like there was metal shards where the inlet for the gas goes in the plastic white-ish piece. i just used a pick set to clean it out.

    I remember with my older model i would take the carburetor off as you did but would clean the build up inaide where that black is where the carburetor was attached. With this model its built Diffrent. Right now the weedeater won't stay on full throttle it bogs down once you give it gas. I have to stay playing with the choke to keep it running with enough power to get a good cut and keep from bogging down. What do I do?

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 6 lety

      the carburetor itself might need to be taken apart and sprayed with carburetor cleaning. Or it might need adjusting on the 'high and low' rev screws. where are you from

    A way to remember fuel line input to carb orientation is the INside against engine is INput from tank. IN goes to IN. Now just look into tank to see which line is filtered and that input! Colors of fuel line should never be trusted as a specific orientation.

    Just disassembled and cleaned my carb for the same model on this video. Bought the tune up kit, replaced with new s.plug new air filter and new fuel filter. It will not start. Noticed fuel spitting out the muffler, the system seamed flooded. Any advise to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

    • @GreenThumbEngines
      @GreenThumbEngines  Před 6 lety +1

      check this video out. czcams.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=JCp8ktLpMy8 You are probably right. The system is probably flooded. Follow the steps on the video i shared here. There may be a lot of oil and sludge on top of the piston which isnt giving the spark plug the spark to get it started. The piston top has to be bare metal. Once way you can check is to take out the spark plug and look in the whole. Then pull the starter cord slowly till you see the piston come up close to the whole and check how it looks. If its really black then follow the video. But regardless, if its spitting fuel out of the muffler, follow the video and remove all the oil and fuel from the inside of the engine. Just follow the video carefully and let me know if you have any problems. Stop if it gets difficult and take a break and go back to it later.
