I was having problems with my ECHO SRM-225 weed eater carburetor, so I decided to try replacing it to see if it would work. In this video I show how easy it is to replace the carburetor, it took less than 5 minutes to actually replace it and get it running, and now it is running like it is new again. I will update the comments if I have any issues with the new carb.
This kit works with the following ECHO string trimmer / weed whacker / weed eater models:
GT225
GT225i
GT225L
PAS225
PE225
PPF225
SHC225
SHC225S
SRM225
SRM225i
SRM225SB
SRM225U - Krátké a kreslené filmy
And to think I used to pay 125 dollars at the lawnmower shop to replace my carb's. Thank God for you tube and people like you who make these videos.
Lol they never do it right either. They rush and get it back out the door. Better to know your equipment than rely on some half ass mechanic. Just my 2 cents.
3 years ago and now this video is going to help me as well, as long as they still sell this package. You made it look so easy, now I will try, what the heck, what damage can I do, :)
this came in handy today,. I was able to fix my trimmer and get the job done. Thanks for sharing.
My trimmer had been running rough for a while so I watched this video, changed the carburetor, and now it is running fine. Excellent and helpful video.
Thank you!
In many cases a good carb cleaning is all that's needed.
Thanks. After years of dealing with leaking, rebuilding the carb for a temporary improvement I finally dropped the $12 for a new carb from Ebay. Best money I have spent in years. Appreciate the video. Echo should fix these instead of leaving their customers to do it. I got more gas leaking out of my Echo SRM230 than I can get out of my government mandated gas can!
You made me chuckle with government gas can comment, thanks for the laugh as they are hard come by now a days!!! Anyway glad you are happy with the new carb!
Thank you so much! Local small engine shop wanted to charge me $175 for parts and labor to do this. You masterfully explained every step, part, and tool throughout the whole process.
Fun fact: How to videos have cost repair businesses from computer repair to car repair lots of money.
I just wanted to say thank you. Your 9-minute video and another 10-minutes of my time to install the new carb and my trimmer started right up.
I was going to buy just fuel lines for a ECHO dealer and they were almost $30. Instead I bought this kit that has everything for $20. It has everything carburetor, sparkplug, 2 extra primer bulbs, gaskets, and fuel lines. It works great and easy to put on thanks to the video.
Excellent video. Just received the identical kit from Amazon . Going to take the iPad out into the shop and follow step by step. Will let you know….
who dislikes this? seriously this video is really useful. I thank you for your time in making this video (liked)
I couldn’t agree more with you Homer. This video was well done and most likely needed by many, many, people.
CZcams is full of strange people with issues. All you have to do is take one look at the filthy comments on various videos. Therefore seeing a thumbs down isn't surprising.. Could even be jealous small engine repair folks.
Thank you so much for this awesome video! I tried most every other fix that was within my skill set and changing the carburetor was the trick! Easy install and your video made it incredibly seamless. Thanks so much! My backyard will now bend to my will again haha!
Thank you for this well done instructional video. I used this to replace the carburetor on my Echo SRM 225 trimmer and your instructions were dead on and it took me about 30 minutes to complete the job, not to mention how much money I saved by doing it myself.
Had same problem with same trimmer. Just ordered the carburetor and look forward to installing it tomorrow. Thanks!! Great video
Thank you. Got the same kind of replacement part and succeeded in one shot. The step of removing the throttle body cable by twisting the direction is very helpful.
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to make a tutorial! Much appreciated man!
Great step by step video! I followed it to completion, and even used your link to buy the parts. My Echo 225 is back up and flying. Many thanks for posting!
Glad it helped!
I just got my kit from Amazon $17.99 ready to put in on after watching your video, very easy to do .
Thanks !!! 👍👍👍
Your video is very informational and your step by step process will help a lot of people. Thank God for somebody that's given good instructions!!
Thank you for your video. I just finished replacing my carb & and the water is running great!
Local mower shop quoted me 125$ to do this...ordered a kit on Ebay for 16$... thanks for the video, amazing how easy these are to fix!
They knew how cheap it be to fix too how many trimmers those shops get daily.
Great video ! Very clear instruction.
My GT-225 was leaking gas through the carb and out the air filter. After installing the new carb there are no longer any leaks. It took a few pulls to get it started the first time but now it's running better than ever. It's nice when you can solve a problem for less than $20.
Swapped it out this morning….little hiccup as I missed lining up the back gasket….fixed that…works like a charm. I get my man card back. Thanks brother
Nice work!
Awesome, thanks brother! I got that same twenty dollar kit(which now also comes w two air filters). So great to not have to soak and rebuild, and your camera angle and steps are crystal clear. Cheers.
ETA: Considering that those carb screws are low torque, I found that the right size flathead screwdriver cautiously applied does just fine on the torx heads and you don't have to get in touch w whoever has borrowed all of your specialty bits.
Looks good, I’ll install mine tomorrow. This is very similar to me replacing the carburetor on my mower. Thanks for the video bud !!!
Thanks for this it was really helpful. I got a quote of $150 from a local shop. I bought mentioned in the video and had the trimmer running again in about 15 minutes. I spent the majority of the time trying to the get the grommet for the fuel lines in place.
thank you for takeing the time to make this video . and the link to get this kit.
That was PERFECT! I was so nervous about changing everything but your video was excellent! You just saved me $100!
Worked like a champ on my GT225..thanks for the video
Good to hear
Thank you very much, the kits was only $16.99 and took my headed away. It started at the second strock
Nice to be able to do your own repairs. Saves a lot of money.
You got that right! Thanks.
Thank you for posting and the link.
Hey Kirk, this is very useful. Thumbs up and take care.👍
Thanks to this video I saved $150 ..!!! Very helpful.. trimmer is running like new.
This was great, I got my kit delivered in one day and had it up and running in less than 30 minutes. One thing that i noticed. I wasnt getting the RPM's I was hoping for and after about 30 minutes of use, I noticed that the breather line was kinked, when I un-kinked it, the RPM's shot up to a great speed. It actually matters!
Thanks for the video just ordered on Amazon via your link.
Excellent demonstration. Thank you.
Great video just fixed mine!
Excellent! Thanks so much for the video!
Well, that is easier than I thought. Thank you for your video.
Edit: I want to mention that if you have to change the fuel tank tubes, the rubber plug that goes into the tank may be a bit big. I ended up taking the hoses out of the plug and putting the new lines into
the old plug, which did fit! That was my only challenge and it was a real pain to get done. In addition, the throttle cable mechanism was different and a bit of a challenge to remove and put back on.
The best part is that is started and runs! Thanks.
Also, my carb had regular Phillips head screws, so that was easier.
On mine I needed to replace the rubber plug as well and while it is an extremely tight fit, if you're patient and carefully use a small flat blade screw driver it will fit. Probably took me 15-20 minutes just to get the plug into place.
Good choice on the carb brand. It works perfectly.
Thanks !
Good video.
Exactly what I needed !
This is the way to do an instructional video. Short and to the point.
Very helpful, Thank you! I got the same kit off Amazon.
Put one of those fuel kits (got mine on eBay) in a 1972 Homelite chainsaw a couple years ago. Think I paid about $15 for it, so wasn't expecting much. It actually worked well. Still runs and idles great.
Great work
Excellent tutorial, thank you
Nice video... I don’t know why shops charge over $200 dollars for this repairs when you can buy this kits for under $15 dollars and do it your self under 10 minutes
because people will pay it not to mention the shops do have overhead
Great video thanks for the help man
replaced my carb and holy cow feels like its brand new. Wish your video gave tips on how to insert the rubber stopper part that comes in the box. I spent about 10 mins replacing the carb and 2 hours trying to squeeze the rubber stopper in with the 3 tubes.
I just did THE SAME THING with the fuel line. Ended up using needle nose plyers to nudge the stopper in, rotate, push again. Worked well.
A lot of people use a screwdriver Flathead, and I have done several carburetor jobs before- got to be careful not to puncture the robber- it has a name I just forgot it- somebody recommends using a needle-nose plier, I might try something like that all my next carburetor replacement in a few days- seems like a good idea.

Amazing video :)
Great video sir. TY! :)
Best Video SIR Mad Scientist Hut i like your video
Many many thanks!
Nice job done 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
great video. . . you made this look so easy. for $18 why bother trying to adjust, clean etc I ordered the kit
good video!
Hi Kirk good to know this information. LIKE 👍7 Gary
Nice job. Great when they start after a repair 😉
Still supporting, full view & 👍 # 5 Stay safe, Joe Z
Thanks 👍 Joe!
Thanks!
Thank you
Thanks
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great job friend! Very well! 👍 Greetings
Thank you! Cheers!
@Joe Brone I tried to clean my old carb with carb cleaner, I think the carb cleaner destroyed the fuel bulb (the little rubber pump to prime the carb) it cracked after cleaning and would not pump fuel
Thanks bro
Nice view, Liked.
thank you
Thank you for the video and step-by-step instructions. It was a tremendous help! I did have trouble with the choke switch though and now after it is all assemble back together, it will not automatically switch down from the "Cold Start" position. I have to manually switch it. Did I miss a step?
My choke lever was always manual on this, I never remember having it switch automatically from cold.
I did this on a SRM 226T and it was like trying to hold a dagwood sandwich together- 7 or 8 pieces that have to been aligned just right.
Thanks for sharing. Looked easy enough. I have some issues with my weedeater, wonder if I could do this? Full View and Like..
You can do it! Thanks Allen!
Watched again Kirk give you back some channel time. Gary
Does it matter if my hoses are swapped? My clear one is on the back nozzle and black hose on front nozzle. Thanks
Surprised you didn't adjust it after installing.
Let us know how the aftermarket carb holds up.
Thanks for the vid.
It is just working great with no adjustment, it has not had any issues yet.
Thnxs brother
Any time
I need your help for sir i need an adapter for my 24 volt can i purchase one from you
thats a 10m wrench. does the echo not have american size bolts?
My Echo SRM 225 runs like a BEAST for about 15 minutes and then boggs right out... if I let it sit for about 20min I can repeat the process however it always seems to "choke" out. It'll restart immediately but the moment I hit anywhere near half throttle it starts to choke even though it ran perfectly normal up till then... lower mid-range seem to function but the moment you get anywhere near the high end of the throttle it just drowns once it's good and hot
I've replaced the fuel delivery system, cleaned the carburetor, changed the spark plug and kept her topped off with fuel plus of course always kept a nice clean air filter... I build gas RC cars, ride Motor Cross Bikes and have Decades of experience maintaining chainsaws, lawn mowers and all types of gas powered equipment yet I've never seen anything quite like this... I guess the next thing I'm going to try is to completely swap out with a new carburetor?
I bought her new and never had a problem for about 7 years of residential use🤔
Sounds like a heat related issue, have you checked if the fuel tank is under pressure (unscrew fuel cap a little) when it bogs down?
@@madscientisthut yeah, you know... I gave that a try when I was convinced it was a fuel supply issue and it did seem to help but certainly wasn't a fix. I took apart the exhaust manifold and it looks fine, the screen is clean
I am puzzled, not sure I have ever seen a carb cause that kind of issue. As cheap as the carb is to replace it may be worth a try. The only other thought I had was fuel lines heating up, but see that you replaced the fuel delivery system.
@@madscientisthut replaced the carb today...still same🤔
@@Howleebra absolutely puzzling.
After i used this video to replace my carb, my echo head spins on its own, without pulling the throttle. It also seems to be running really fast. Any advice?
adjust the idle screw back , idle is too high
Awesome video I just wanted to know how’s it holding up and did you have to tune the carb at all?
Still working. The carb worked without tuning right out of the box
@@madscientisthut awesome thank you I will definitely get this kit 🙏
Took my SRM 225 and an Echo PB 2100 blower in that both needed new fuel lines and carburetor to a local small engine repair and they quoted me between $125 and $150 each. Over half the cost of the trimmer and probably more than the cost of the blower. Bought this same carburetor replacement for the trimmer and the highest rated one for the blower for a total of $30 and both run great. Took 30 minutes of my day, they run great and saved upwards of $270. This is a job anyone can do to get some more life out of that lawn equipment.
Do you have to adjust the carb after? Does it have that screw with cover sleeve?
i did not adjust the carb it ran without any adjustment, which was super great!
I bought the exact same carb for a ECHO 2015 trimmer. only runs for a few seconds. What the h?
You might have a pinched fuel line.
Great video .. did the carb work straight from box .. or did u have to tune it??
Worked from the box without adjusting
@@madscientisthut great 👍🏾 when it's my time . I will get this name brand
hi Bro, why didn't you change the spark plug? and you didn't need to adjust the idle... ??? thank you
no need to change plug, it still works fine with same plug. And my idle was perfect without adjusting.
Does it still hold the carburetor? Where did you get it from thank you
Yes the carb still works. it is in the video description.
Shoutout to the Mad Scientist.
Seems like the original gasket on the backside could be left alone since it's higher quality.
how is this carb holding up after 3years
"spring time" is just around the corner, it is still snowing here. I will be trying it soon, hope to remember to get back to you and let you know.
How did you no it need it to be replaced
I could no longer start the engine, and it was not running great before that point. It was getting a good hot spark and had good compression so the only thing left was fuel (carburetor)
Mad Scientist Hut thanks
Hello i had a question .so i seen one of your old videos of the adapter you made for the dewalt 24 volt i was wondering if you can sell me an adapter i have a 24 volt dewalt hammer drill and the battery doesnt charge at all could you help me pls ill pay you

Is there a email or some were so i can text you im willing the send the battery to you
Good info, carbs on eBay are about $20.00
Where do those gaskets go, and why does no kit include the rubber gasket that actually fails and ruins the whole machine? Grr.
All that for under 15.
