- Pictures are of Fritz Wunderlich (Jenik) & Kurt Böhme (Kecal - the matchmaker)
The preferred audio is FW & Gottlob Frick in the full recording with Kempe in 1962.
Translation is quite liberal in order to fit the music.

Thank you. That was some beautiful singing, and acting, from the both of them. Wunderlich is always wonderful, but this shows him at his relaxed best. And Frick is hilariously invasive, overbearing, and his excellent, easy, basso is a great contrast to Wunderlich.
Absolutely sublime what could I say other than Bravissimo
Zwei Jahrhundertstimmen, ganz große Klasse!
Danke fürs Hochladen.
Tozzi and Gedda sing this in English another superb performance 🎭 I have a recording my Father bought 40 years ago of this delightful Opera both Bass and Tenor are Czechoslovakian and sung of course in original language and it’s the recording that stays in my heart and ear .
An honour to read such a comment from CZcams's champion subtitler, Roberta!
Thank you! I try to subtitle pieces for an opera club I'm part of & that font is easily readable against varied backgrounds. I'm going to try it. Thanks again.
Wonderfull! I would like to have the complete opera. Can I find it on youtube?
This is Kurt Bohme not Gottlob Frick
On picture yes
Your Subtitles are masterful. What is that Font?
+Hywel Dda II Thanks for this comment. The font was "Comic Sans MS" size 20.
That's Kurt Bohme - not Frick
@@emmanueldubus1199 It sounds to me like Frick's (wonderful! unmistakable!) voice.
On picture yes
Er heißt Joseph Schmidt.
