  • Would you like to know how to get shaft lean at impact like a tour player? Many golfers really struggle to achieve forward shaft lean at impact very often scooping the ball and losing distance and strike. In this video Ali will show you a simple change to enable you to achieve better forward shaft lean, strike the turf then ground contact and really crush your irons.

    Thanks for the tip! One question though, should I dial my grip back to a weaker grip for driver and fairway woods to not close the face with those clubs?

    Great video. I'm looking to upgrade my irons and wonder about the interraction between shaft lean and club lofts. If you are essentially delofting your irons with shaft lean does this mean you can stop at a 5 or even 6 iron. I'm conscious of the strong lofts in most current game improvement irons.

  • @martinsoderstjerna1619

    Would be interesting to see how your spin is affected by this, thanks for a great video, I have been wondering why people lean their clubs in this way.

    You’ve nailed what I’m struggling with. I will be experimenting on the range this week. Great, concise, instruction Ali and this along with your instruction on low point of the swing for irons especially, are the two areas I will be working on heavily before hitting the links again. Thanks!

    Ali. What is your Trackman launch angle on your PW, 8, and 6 iron (would also like the 7 and 9, but don't want you to have to do too much)? I have a home launch monitor and am curious. My 7 iron is 32 degrees, but my launch angle is usually in the low to mid 20s, so I am getting shaft lean but not sure if I am getting enough or even too much unless I have something to compare it to.

    Hi Ali, should you also have a strong grip with fairway woods and driver? I’ve had a strong grip for years on my irons but felt it didn’t work so well with woods, I would say I’m a slow swing speed player. Thanks in advance for your help. Ps just subscribed

    Now I understand the science behind the stronger grip 👍 I was never convinced about the strong grip as I was pulling left though getting better contact ; but I know understand I could get the club to shallow and yet get square at impact. Thanks

    Ailes can I ask?
    I lose distance on irons but I am pretty straight tho, I would describe me contact as a clipper, I do not get a pitch mark, Have I got to change much to get that ball before ground result?

  • @thewelsho
    @thewelsho Před 3 lety +1

    This is music to my ears. I already lean the shift at address and thought it was a bad habit. I also checked my swing and the club head is parallel to my spine angle. The ball goes left (not massively) on about 60% of shots. So. that is telling me I'm not getting the hands forward enough which will be a direct result of not getting the body out of the way in time. Therefore, going by all of that, I need to work on moving the body :)

  • @Fishng8r
    @Fishng8r Před 3 měsíci

    I've found, if I ground the club and lean the shaft forward then grip with my left, it leaves my hands in an easily repeatable position and improves the strike and consistency.

    Ali, if a person is not a body rotator, then can they rotate the forearms down through the ball extending the lead wrist to stick out and achieve the same thing as changing to a strong grip ? some of us, me included, find it easier to rotate the arms than the entire core - lower body.

    How much de lofting the club working well is due to modern clubs. I am playing at the moment with ping Gs and am amazed how even " slightly thin strikes" stop

    Do you do online lessons? Or could you analyze my swing videos? I’m having trouble getting forward shaft lean. Thanks!

  • @frankferrara406
    @frankferrara406 Před 3 lety

    Have been hitting irons high and straight, will see of I can adapt to this. Not sure how this applies to woods - hands ahead of ball at address with driver?

    • @thewelsho
      @thewelsho Před 3 lety

      I think, since the ball is much further to the left in the stance with the driver, that it would. Be more difficult to lean the shift as much as an iron and get it ahead of the ball. But, I'd say the principles of club head angle matching the spine angle (flattening the wrist) still applies. Going by what he says in other videos, this would be the case. Also, remember with the driver you're hitting up on the ball and now down as you would an iron.

  • @frankferrara406

    I started out hitting a clean short iron, much greater distance, but then consistently hit shanks. Might be blocking out?

    Often wondered if leaning forward was a mistake as I naturally do that, cheers for the video.

    If I close the face to practice and hit it straight by getting lean, then should I always use that approach once I get it down?

    The first instructor I’ve heard in years that says ‘I don’t care that you don’t have a neutral grip’. The very reason why I don’t go for lessons because they’ll try and undo my strong grip which I’ve been using for over a decade.

  • @CourtandHolly
    @CourtandHolly Před 2 lety

    I am going to struggle with shaft lean forever I guess. I’ve seen every video and tried all kinds of aids. Lots of $$$ spent trying to fix it and Ive gone through so many teachers. I bought a rapsodo and with a 7 I’m hitting around 165 with 95+ swing speed. I’m not compressing the ball, but slapping the with the club face. Would love to not feel the slap of the club face on every shot.

  • @robmatthews4680
    @robmatthews4680 Před 3 lety

    The more I strengthen my grip, the more I fade the shot...If I have a neutral grip, I get a decent draw.

    If you want to hit it further, just take a longer club.
