I watched this video and practiced this with foam practice balls since the range was closed due to rain. I was making much better contact and ball flight was great. The early part of my first round in 20 years was difficult because I was hitting about thirty yards further with each club.

First great swing tip I got as a 12 year old was from my first caddie master, who eventually became a teaching pro. He saw I already naturally had a good swing so he said ‘get your divot to start halfway through the ball’. Hips then hands.

How old were you before you realized the divot comes after hitting the ball? Me= 60yrs and 51 weeks.

Nice comparison. I upgraded a 23 year old Titleist 975d to a Qi10 Max today after a fitting. It was adding 30+ yards carry no problem with 115 club speed.

Hi Ali, this is the fundamental fault that is driving me mad - the faster I swing the more inconsistent I become. Im really going to try and shorten my backswing slightly and really focus on the points that you made in the video. Thanks Mate!

Keeping the left / leading arm bent is a massive no-no. Introduces variability in the low point, which in turn creates inconsistency.

This added distance and I simultaneously lowered my tendency to slice.

I feel like you’re sacrificing loft for distance. If I’m using my 7, I’m probably aiming for the green. Therefore I need loft to make sure I don’t roll off the back of the green. Unless there is something I didn’t see.

The first one scared the life out of me seeing where it struck the face of the club. I’m suffering the dreaded shanks on every iron shot.

I'm 68 hit my 8 iron 155 yds

I started playing my 3 and 5 woods off of my back foot and it felt like I was really "catching" or collecting the ball with the face. The strikes were much better.

I'm in my 60's. 2 years ago I bought a Ping 5 fairway wood. It's 1 of my 2 easiest clubs to hit long, high and consistent, so I recently added the 9. They are so much easier to play than irons and for me, they outperform my hybrids. I love them (especially the 5). I'm usually very consistent down the middle with my drives but last week I was off, so I resorted to the 5. For me, I didn't lose more than maybe 25 yards but it got my game down the middle going again.

Sounds like I’m actually another anomaly because I’m same with both. Very subpar with driver and irons equally.😂

Why not just keep the short swing for accuracy, put the ego away, go up a club? Not how far, it’s how many, however it takes to get there.

I grew up playing a course that was hard as a parking lot. Became a picker, something I still struggle with. But, many people like myself can flush every shot on a mat. It's when we go to the course that is becomes a problem. Mats offer more forgiveness for the bottom of your arc as the bounce drags across the floor. Compression is easier. But I think it creates bad habits for some like me. I'm your partner on any simulator! But go out on a wet, soft day and I struggle.
