  • This month, we are working on one of Edyta' favorite blocks, New York Beauty! It may look intimidating at first, but Edyta breaks it down for us and teaches us how to use foundation paper piecing to make this block come to life.

Slow and steady wins the race. Your steps were easy to follow, like that the center is one piece. The quilt is so beautiful, thanks Edyta.

So gorgeous. Paper-pieced blocks always turn out so precise, but it's such a departure from what we know to be "normal" piecing that it takes ages for my brain to readjust to how to paper-piece. This block turned out particularly beautiful! You have to love Edyta!

Every little thing you do is 'sew' perfect! The color of even then the pin holder matches-yes we notice.

I’ve always avoided these “hard” techniques because I felt like I was doomed to fail!! You explained it so perfectly that I’m sure I can do it! Thank you!

Buy a couple sheets of template plastic sheets, trace template pattern pieces then carefully cut them out with craft scissors. Then label a zip lock and store them for later use. I’ve been doing this for years. Cheaper and they hold up well.

Beautiful!!! I would be worried about the danger of rotary cutting without a ruler, having fingers so close to the blade. If you are not an expert, please use a scissors to cut on the drawn line...so much safer. I cut myself years ago with a rotary cutter, terrible! I will never forget it. This quilt is so amazingly beautiful!

Betty Hazel , Right there with you on this. I’m STILL recovering from my first finger being almost completely cut off from a slipping rotary cutter. Lots of stitches to put it back together again...

I found it easier to trace the paper templates on freezer paper, then press the patterns onto the fabric to cut out.

I’ve never done paper piecing. I’ve watched the video twice and read the instructions from the book and I still don’t understand how to do the paper piecing.

Hi Joann, we found if you're totally new to paper piecing, this video here is quite helpful: czcams.com/video/K1kGh-8-Jds/video.html

Fat Quarter Shop Thank you for responding. This video made it seem some easier. I think I might be wise to try it on scrap fabric until I get the hang of it.
