1:40 - 1:44 actually the movie was inspired by a commercial. The idea came from a Nike commercial with Bugs and Michael defeating Marvin the Martian in a basketball game to get back a pair of Nikes. Apparently Warner Bros got so fascinated with that concept and that’s how Space Jam was conceived

Fun fact: when Daffy asked Bill Murray how he got onto the court, Bill replied that his producer friend dropped him off here. This is a reference to Ivan Reitman, the producer of this film who had previously worked with Murray as the director of Ghostbusters.
That was a deep cut that most kids didn't understand back in the day.

This movie is funnier if you pretend this Lola is the same as the Looney Tunes Show version, and this is just her acting as sexy as possible just to get Bugs to start dating her.
Well, they are already dating since the double date episode, but if there's ever a TLTS revival that sounds like a crazy idea. Lola suddenly alternating between her "other personalities" and messing up everyone around her... except Bugs because he has seen her do and say even crazier things, though he'll definitely be intrigued by that "new" side of her XD The trigger for the personality change can be a basketball for example, as iirc TLTS Lola was only ever seen playing rollerskates and tennis.
Some how I gaslit myself into thinking you guys already did this movie but no way that's true from how hard I laughed at this, it would not have been this funny on a second view.

So, fun fact: this whole movie is based on a commercial. Nike had revealed new Air Jordans at the time, but they needed something that would get the kids attention. So, they teamed up with Warner Bros. to have the Looney Tunes characters be in commercials to promote the shoes. And someone at Warner Bros. decided, "Why not make this into a movie?"
Fun fact: Originally the script was going to be a musical starring MJ and the Looney Tunes. However, instead of MJ as in Michael Jordan, it would start Michael Jackson. But for some reason the script was changed and we got this movie instead, but the premise for what they were planning would later turn into the next Warner Bros. Animated Movie, Cats Don't Dance.
Seriously, go check that film out as it's way funnier and entertaining, next to Space Jam.

Cats Don't Dance had some fine musical numbers. It is a movie that I think could also be an actual musical with enough work put into it. (Although the "flooding the stage" part would be hard to pull off.)

Space Jam was actually conceived from a comercial that had Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes in it. The commercial was so popular that they decided to make a movie based on it. Something like that anyways

No one ever talks about how Bill Murray is literally playing himself in this movie.
Which makes it more ironic that Ivan Reitman, was supposed to direct this movie, but was later move to producer. Which makes me wonder whether or not they going to go with making a Looney Tunes movie or an Ivan Reitman movie?

Lola is great but to be fair I never found any of the Looney Toons that funny to begin with, I prefer Lola in this movie to most of the other characters that are actually pointless...
LTS Lola is just an annoying dumb clingy character, whereas this Lola is a "sexy and she knows it" confident kind of character which is what puts a cocky arrogant Bugs Bunny type in his place.
It's the same reason Sally Porsche works in Cars, because Lightning McQueen is like Bugs, but she puts him in his place. If they made Sally Porsche some ditsy clingy weirdo it wouldn't work.
This movie is freaking fantastic and the actual game was a true basketball classic plus Charles Barkley did a hell of a job 👏 lul

LTS Lola is just an annoying ditsy stalker type clingy character. That isn't any more "deep" or "complex" but I sure enjoy the "hot and she knows it" type character for Lola in Space Jam
Because the reason for why it works is Bugs is the arrogant type, like Lightning McQueen in Cars, while Lola is sexy and she knows it so she bounces off him and keeps him in check the same as Sally Porsche does in Cars with Lightning. It doesn't work as well if she was just clingy and annoying.
Women can use their sexuality and looks without it just being objectifying too, I mean that isn't what was happening here (sort of, they put a "girl character" in to try and make the film appeal more to girls and had no idea of how else to write her) but the point is that you don't HAVE to be a "smart" girl or a "stupid girl" in order to have a legitimate personality, sometimes being the sexy one CAN be your personality. Plus she's good at sports....

Honestly a lot of people may have disliked the sequel but I actually enjoyed watching it and I consider to be a spiritual successor to the original in other words, just as good as the original in my opinion.

I saw this in theaters as a little kid in the 90s. You really just had to have been there. It wasn't just good, it was near transcendental. Not the movie, being a kid in the 90's. The movie was a lot of fun tho and still is!

I love this movie. There are bad movies and there are good bad movies. This falls under good bad for me. Sure its very dated and the performances are everywhere, but thats what i like about it. Its was just a fun dumb movie with a goofy premise
This entire movie exists because of a thirty-second Nike ad of Bugs Bunny & Michael Jordan playing basketball, and the ad becoming so popular that someone thought "What if we stretched this into a full movie?" So your assessment of why this movie is mostly bad and boring is pretty much spot-on; they literally had nothing but "Bugs & Mike play basketball in a movie together" and went from there.
