Making The [Witcher] Sword - From Season 1 and 2
Vložit

- The tale of making the Witcher Steel Sword from the Netflix show out of meteorite. From the forging of the blade to the creation of Renfri's broach, we show it all. A sword Geralt of Rivia would be proud to use. This sword is featured in Witcher season one and Witcher season 2 on Netflix. The tale is told by our very own bard, Chris Cash of Mt Phillip Metal Works.
Working with meteorite is complex in it’s self. Making a sword of this quality adds several challenges. Not only working the material but heat treating the blade and grinding the complex plunges and creating the proper garnishments using classical silversmithing techniques. Gem setting, chasing and repousse are all used to bring this magical sword to life.
Bladesmithing at it's finest ! If you ever wanted to lean how to make a sword for a Witcher or how to make a pattern welded sword with meteorite than this is the video for you.
Toss a coin to you Witcher so he can toss a coin to his blacksmith and get himself a real sword! Not a silly ZWEIHANDER , but a real swift hand half made from meteorite. Perhaps we will do the original sword from Blood Origin next or maybe season 2 on Netflix will reveal another piece that we will have to make. Either way, I am sure that we will return to The Witcher and make something else soon !
To those who have asked, we made the design from the Netflix show, but made it to scale how they are described in the Witcher Novels. Witcher season 1 and Witcher season 2 feature this sword so far.

You should be proud, it’s a shining example of just how much talent you guys collectively bring to the table. With as much work as you put in to each step, you should consider releasing these in deep dive parts, each like 10 mins long then release a super cut of them all with the demolition. I easily would watch a 10 min vid just covering the broach as well as one that goes over assembly and detail work done handle, guard, etc. One long video like this is really easy to skip through and miss things on, and I feel like it was hard to navigate to parts I was interested in, so a format like that would also might help maximize the viewer experience too! Either way, much love!

When a humble bard
Graced a ride along

Along came this song
Of when the brave smith wrought
A silver sword's bevel
His arm wielding hammers
Winding up to head level
Then came a sword hilt
Of pattern welded steel
Broke down some wood and
The handle was built
As the anvil's horn
Took the hammer's beat
So cried the blacksmith
Need one more heat

I second this
I was half expecting the sword being pulled from the stake after the showcase by a hand, cam zooms out and reveals Henry Cavill - I expect he would have been so into this, even just as a Cameo.
Love watching Ilya work. I've seen all the 'Man at Arms' videos and marveled over his skills. One day I'll own a sword that he has made.... one day.

Building that sword.. INCONCEIVABLE!
Left or right handed?
When you show of the sword in the end, move the camera slower instead of slowing down the recording via editing, the image skips across the screen, you can litterally count the frames and its hard to actually see the details of the sword.
22:25
I couldnt even look at the screen it made me dizzy af
the only frame is well apreciate it is in the last minute when he stuck it on the wood. you guys have a lot of years of camera working, can't fail on that with DAT invaluable PIECE OF ART.
If they go slower you can see more...including errors / mistakes.
That camera work at 3:16 makes this one of my favorite build videos on CZcams. The detail you guys put into your crafts is uncanny and makes me inspired to learn how to do the stuff you guys do.
This is one of my new favourite channels, so glad they created it
Ilya the new witcher!!

I've never seen a eggyolk being cut in half by a sword before, Ilya is a maniac!
He might even be the kind of Rasputin the mad monk!!
Must admit in all the years I have been watching you guys. This is my favorite blade so far.
You guys always go above and beyond. This has to be top 5 that I have seen you do. The attention to detail and the finished product are incredible. Very well done!
I wish the closeup shots of the finished sword weren't so blurry. It looks like a fantastic piece
I second this opinion about the "beauty shots." They were not in focus and too fast! Amazing craftsmanship needs more time for recognition.
Agreed...AMAZING sword tho...very well done guys!
they where clear for me make sure you have your CZcams set too 1080p HD or higher something's it goes on low settings due too crappy PC or cell phone on auto for performance LMAO
Cannon Koester will shoot the pans in 120 FPS next time. Got a wee bit 4K happy.
@@ThatWorks I know you guys are probably pretty good with a camera, but if you're having trouble with the stuttering and a video isn't cutting it, you can try taking a high res 4k picture from a tripod, and then using the images to scroll across the screen at whatever speed you wish. Still stays very dramatic but you get ever bit of detail from the camera picture!
If you guys were in that time period...would easily be the most sought after blacksmiths in all the realms !!!
From carving steel to carving ivory, I would love to see Conner McCloud's katana replicated please.
Found this after Reforged. Y’all are dorks and it’s beautiful to see

This long haired dudes gotta be the most skilled blacksmith I've seen!!! Nice work!!! This was the first episode I watched. I subscribed.
He really is. He has taken new school technologies with a solid understanding of the old ways and makes an absolute masterpiece every time. He is a perfectionist at heart and his attention to detail is something I have rarely seen in my 37 years on this planet. So glad to see them both doing what they love and doing it to the best of their God given ability.
his name is Ilya, such a talented blacksmith
R.A. Salvatore has written many 'Forgotten Realm' books about a character named Drizzt Do'Urden. One of his main companions is named Wulfgar. I would like to see you make Wulfgar's war hammer, 'Aegis-fang'. It is described in the first book, 'The Crystal Shard'. Drizzt also wielded two scimitar's. One named Icingdeath and the other called 'Twinkle'. I would like to see you forge those two as well.
This deserves so many more thumbs up
I've been asking for Drizzt's scimitars for years. Michael Cthulu made a great version of Aegis Fang on his channel already.
This. So. Much. Omg!
Shithouse books.
Drizzt the ranger god of death and the king of the Under Dark a name I have not seen in quite a time... Now I am gonna go unbox my Drizzt books and read them again lol
I could have done with like 5 mins less of you hitting a hot bar and like 30 minutes more of the hand etching on the broach 🤤 beautiful build guys ❤️
Whippet Good I love it all, but that detail work is enrapturing
Gavin Clark it honestly is! 18:22 hit and that thing went from a flat sheet to a masterpiece in a single fade. I was both captivated by its beauty and destroyed that I wasn’t there to witness such glory being born 😂
Get out.
Are you kidding? I mean, yeah, the detail work is excellent, but watching Ilya hand forge bevels is everything that is right in the world. If I had a beer and some barbecue while doing so I'd say it's better than sex.
InstrucTube don’t get me wrong, around the 5:20 mark when he starts working the steel? Captivating doesn’t even begin to describe it. And his ability to hand bevel, it’s unreal. My point was more that the video spent a solid 5 minutes showing the prepping of the steel (which is fine if you like that much detail on the process, everyone has their own kinks), I just would have loved the same detail to have been shown to the other equally as intricate parts as well.
Now that Tod Cutler's confirmed that he made weapons for the show (and the next season) in his "Techniques of a professional prop maker - Ageing Weapons" video, I'd be interested to see his input on this.
It's always amazing watching Ilya work. You can tell he's a master at his craft, he makes the difficult process of forging a sword look simple. Only a true master can do that.
Knowing that Matt uses filing guides to grind plugle lines makes me feel much better about my own work
Jacob Benns that was the first time I’ve ever used a guide....ever!
Stunning work on all accounts, worthy of the Witcher is an understatement.
Would be awesome if Henry Cavil purchased this beauty to wield in a final episode.
I watched man at arms religiously and it even helped me pass my practical exam in mechanical engineering where we had to weld, and shape metal. I watched every single episode and i didn't really know what happened to it and was just at a loss when i couldn't see any new videos. anyone else feel like you could fall asleep to the sound of Ilya engraving a sword? Just so relaxing listening to a master at work.
I've never seen anyone do an egg for test cutting, and I'm not entirely sure why I'm so impressed by cutting the egg in half with the yolk distinctly separated in the two halves of the shell instead of just being thrown about, but I am.
and the fact that the bottom half of the egg was still standing on the tatami mat.
