  • If you have an Instant Pot, you can grow mushrooms at home! An Instant Pot is capable of preparing and sterilizing popcorn kernels to inoculate with your favorite mushroom variety.
    A 6 quart will fit 4 pint jars or 3 1.5pint jars.
    In this video, we will go over...
    1. how to hydrate popcorn kernels
    2. Create Air Exchange Holes and install a simple filter for jar lids
    3. Sterilize popcorn jars with an Instant Pot

    I've used my Instant Pot for years for everything mycology, from agar to dehydration, and everything in between, so it is good to see you sharing this tek. A couple tips. No need to punch lids to ventilate. Since there is little moisture in the kernels, a very limited amount of pressure will build up. If you are concerned, you can just cover tightly with foil, no lids, and then add the lids after you LET THE POT COOL COMPLETELEY. Also, if you are in the US, you are seeing lots of high strength bags for food products. From granola to salt, these high strength, ziplock bags are all the rage in food packaging and a great upcycle option. You can use these bags for everything from grain prep to agar plate wrappers and tool bags...you just need to experiment a bit.

      Helios' Mushroomery What time for the oats ? Only 20min as well ? Sterilisation is a time at temperature equation, so given your at a lower temp (due to lower psi) you need a longer time, as total time = penetration time + hold time (15min @ 15psi) , penetration time is much longer for oats than popcorn.

      The next day when you some moisture I just shook mine up a bit and rolled it around then left it for a few hours and rolled it again. This allowed the grain to absorb the moisture evenly. (I think if you have water sitting at the bottom you might not dried long enough, a little bit should be fine to get the grains to absorb though)

    • @SirDydimus86
      @SirDydimus86 Před 6 měsíci

      This is a joke, right?
      Yes, most plants and fungi grow "in the wild" but when you cultivate them, like cannabis, it's often brought indoors. Easier to control the environment needed for mycelial fruiting bodies!
      And sterilization is necessary because you would be trying to grow a specific type of mushroom, if you get to that point, and you don't want other lifeforms competing for nutrients in your grow.
