  • Classic British trucks or lorries in a scrapyard and some buses too, including a few London buses towards the end of the video. I took these photos myself, some very old trucks here. Mostly Scammell, Leyland, Foden, ERF, Bedford and Ford trucks. Lots of Bedford TK cabs and Ford D series, Scammell Routeman and Highwayman, al sorts of vehicles that were once a common sight on UK roads, many years ago. There's also a few London buses from the early 2000s.

    As sad as it is to see all these lorries and buses like this, I think it good that at least they havent been chopped to pieces. While there don't seem to be any easy restorations, some could still be saved by groups of dedicated enthusiasts, willing to undertake huge projects, and for that, lots of spare parts would be needed. Even the most rusty and sad looking vehicle, could contain a spare part vital for the restoration of another, so it's certainly a good thing that such yards exist, although the decay is painful to watch.

      It is sad too see such classic old vehicles just left to rot, but hopefully some of them could still be saved before it's too late. There's certainly plenty of useful spare parts there to keep other vehicles already in preservation on the road.

    I hate to see anything being scrapped, be it a ship, a truck, a car, and aircraft or a locomotive.
    Some famous British manufacturers feature in these images, most of them now just a memory and a part of history.
    There is something sad but compelling about seeing these abandoned vehicles. I know they cant all be saved, but we should be thankful that we have such a thriving preservation movement in the UK.
    An interesting sequence of sad images; each a small slice of (mostly) British manufacturing history.
    I identified Ford, Foden, Scammell, Leyland, Bedford, ERF, Commer, BMC and even a Ford Puma amidst the trucks.
    As for the buses - Dennis Darts, RT’s, Dennis Dominator, Trident, and maybe an MCW.

    I think I saw a Bedford RL in green probably ex-Army. When I worked at Telehoist, Cheltenham in 1974 these RL chassis’s were converted to tipper trucks, painted light blue and shipped to Saudi Arabia. They would literally be ran into the ground and buried in the sand when no longer useful.

      @robsterbob580  Před 2 lety +1

      There were one or two Bedford RL ex-Army lorries in the yard. Interesting to hear about the ones shipped to Saudi Arabia. I think a lot of them must have been shipped overseas. I saw one converted to a tipper when I was in Zambia about 10 years ago. It looked like it might still have been in working order too. I saw quite a few British trucks over there, as well as American and Japanese trucks too. Seems the demand for exporting used trucks across the world is still a big market.

      It does seem a shame and wasteful. I've seen ex-London double deck buses of the same age in use by local companies on school run work. Plenty of life left in them yet. There were quite a few of these buses in the yard, but parked too close together to get any more decent photos.

      Yes it was very sad to see it there. I had a look inside and the rear platform had a very dodgy floor, it was in a bad way. I went upstairs and it looked very sad in that condition.
      But I've seen a video on CZcams that someone filmed much more recently, and there's a big space where this bus was parked. So I think it may have been saved from the scrapyard for preservation. I hope so anyway. It didn't deserve to die.

    Extended Bodies for Most of the Buses
    Much as I am not comfortable to ask the depot why they stopped running the London Suburban Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW’s on routes N26, 30, 121, 230, 271, 349, N279 And 158 why can’t we make the same make of the Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Buses but Modernise the insides of these Buses. Also make it low floor up and down and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more so there will be more space for the wheelchair users. By the way, if you could remake and Modernise these vehicles could they also make it into a Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW Version’s that if it will be possible and to Modernise the insides of these Loud 4-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearbox Gardner 6LX and Gardner 6LXC Diesel Engine Olympian ECW’s make it low floor up and down and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a Little bit more so there will be more space and even a London Suburban Scania N230UD Enviro 400 MMC and also extend the middle body part of these vehicles a little bit more. Nope. I visited this scrapyard and took these photos last year, January and February 2020. I couldn't believe the old stuff in this yard. Place is like a time warp. It's huge too. There are newer, more modern trucks in there for scrap too, but not as interesting as the older classic lorries. The guy who owns it was telling me that the old lorries came in to the yard back in the 70s, 80s and onwards, the place has been there for years and years. I went twice to take photos, there was too much to see in just one visit!
