    1. Don't lie to yourself. As an athlete, write your results and performance down.
    2. Enjoy the process of studying and learning about yourself.
    3. Self discipline is like strength building, putting in the reps will mean you get better and stronger.
    Thanks Sam, this fantastic video brings out lots of new ideas!

    Great video as always. When I read Atomic Habits I learned how to start new habits and how to be disciplined with them. The key is to make them as simple as possible when starting so the chances of you doing them is high, and that trick can be applied to lots of things in life so we can get better and be disciplined without feeling overwhelmed. Atomic Habits is a great book for learning about habits and how to be disciplined. (Excuse my poor English and writing)

      Atomic Habits is an excellent book, thanks for sharing your experience of it. 100% agree that you have to make things easy and really break them down into something that is so simple to do. Then build from there đŸ’Ș

    Self dicipline is what keep athletes in the game for a very long time which is why i think its one of the most important aspects of the game, you can say the same thing for life in general. For example look at ronaldo and messi these freaks of nature still play like they are in their late twenties there is no way possible way that they would be where they are today if they did not have that self discipline in them it is just great to see. Great video 👍

    Most young athletes over-estimate what they can do in the short term - and under-estimate what they can do in the long term.
    Think six years, not six months

    Hey Sam, I am in a football team right now that is not taking it seriously. I have to kinda ‘drag’ the team, but it can be really difficult sometimes to always push myself to the next level, can you make a video about this?

      @@SamMartinPeakPerformance the core theme was Equality, Diversity & Inclusion. What was interesting for me, was that actual research data was often the causation for the KPI’s I regularly encounter in governance requirements. Often we look at these KPI’s and ask where did this come from, who came up with this? etc. Similarly, I was very interested in the current research data surrounding the various types of sponsorship, especially in minority/niche sports. As I’ve one foot in sport science and the other in sport management, it was time well spent. I listened to presentations from all over the globe and learned a lot. It’s unfortunate I could only attend day 1 of 3, I’m sure there was lots more of value to be learned from.

    What if you were so disciplined it made it your own downfall because you couldn't establish a life balance of fun outside of your sport focus and fell into deep depression. How do you stop burning out in anything if you have a kind of obsessive personality toward your goals. It's pushed most friends in life away as well.

    • @SamMartinPeakPerformance
      @SamMartinPeakPerformance  Pƙed 8 měsĂci +1

      Sounds like more than anything you'd need to "Set Clear Boundaries" Establish specific time slots for your sport or goal pursuit and stick to them. Ensure you also allocate time for rest, socializing, and relaxation. All other important parts of your life need to be scheduled in so you don't neglect them and you also don't burn out
