CNCs can be a huge pain to get up and running. We have had new and old Haas and Hurcos that were problem free and we had new ones that seemed like nightmares to get the small details sorted out. But once they were running, watch out chips are flying!

Grew up dirt poor, started working at 12, got my SS card at 13. Ran into the same problems w/ 'on time', 'right' & 'do it, (at all)', & did the same thing you're doing. It's why, at 70, I need a building about ½ the size of yours, just for me & the tools & equipment I worked hard to buy, then worked using it. I've never been one to sell any of my tools, unless I'd already replaced them; had way too many guys broke, w/ kids to feed, asking to borrow tools so they could make some bean money. Sell your tools, fools; how you gonna feed your kids? Lotta work to keep everything running, but it sure is nice to be able to fix anything & if I have to, make what I need, then fix it. LOL Good on ya, Steve, you keep workin' hard & doing what you're doing. You're a good man. Be proud as hell of ya, if you my son, or son-n-law; wish my old man had looked out for me the way you're looking out for YOUR future. (My old man built a biz from nothing & took me in, as 'The Future'. Then one day the IRS showed up. He signed papers, pointed at me, said, "He'll handle it.", went home & never came back to the biz. Twenty-five yrs old, out of college < yr, & I had to save a biz because my step-mom, little sister & 35 employees relied on it for their beans. Took me 18 months, I left, never went back, except to shovel his grave full of dirt. Probably why I was never able to depend on someone else. Good on ya, Steve, good on ya.
My father told me to get up early go to work every day and learn as much as you can. Save your money!! You can't get ahead by sitting around wishing for stuff to happen. Great work Steve.
I don’t think it’s people thinking you’re financed or just rich by luck, it’s the fact a very small amount of human beings have the intellectual capabilities to reach the level of business you have, not even counting the technical know how and understanding of complex systems, fluid dynamics and engineering to be able to do 1/100th of what you’ve accomplished
And you can blame the poor public education system for a major portion of this problem. We spend way to much educational time and resources preaching about how unfair things are in the world. Our modern education is not spending enough time and resources working on STEM and critical thinking.

I worked for two excellent caliber guys who started re-building flight control empennage’s and surface control stabilizers and ailerons etc. they had their tool boxes and little money, and a small home garage. 20 + years later they own one of the worlds most elite aircraft shops, helping build space vehicles among other things and a few years ago sold to one of Americas biggest aerospace corps for an undisclosed amount, but changed the financial economy of the entire state. All from a couple of tool boxes, a garage, some knowledge and a will to work for themselves. Straight Flight Inc. now a subsidiary of Sierra Nevada Corporation.
Tell ‘em Steve! I think that’s a lot of the problem people have is sitting back being jealous of someone’s earned success vs going out taking the risks and putting in the work to do it themselves.

I was just thinking, from what I remember, you built up a couple other companies and either got screwed or you left but you started your own business again. You definitely have a talent at what you do. I live in Canada, on disability. I can't even work on my own vehicle anymore. I subscribed to a few channels recommended by Cleetus but just watch Pete, you and Cleetus. I feel like between these 3 I'm learning a few things and understand racing better than I did a couple years ago when I first started watching Cleetus.

I started watching Cletus, however for some reason that I can't put my finger on. It irritates me to no end the way they speak and the words they use. Every other word is "dude" "brother" "spicy" approximately 12 words that they use over and over again. I just find that irritating. Reason I stopped watching.

Spent 40 years in machine shops. I remember the day a flatbed truck rolled in with a new machine twice the size of your new Haas. We pulled the covers off, and the machine was rusty. It caught rain on the way, and the bag wasn't watertight enough to keep rain out, but it was tight enough to cause the rain that got in to sweat and rust that machine. Shipment was refused. Stay healthy, and honest, and believe in yourself. We do. God bless.

I feel you, Steve! I've been homeless twice. Once was all my doing, the other time was due to circumstances totally beyond my control. I've now got enough money to do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it. I have an awesome wife and an awesome life and don't owe one single dime to any person or entity. It's all mine! I get it, brother. I just kept leveraging myself up, one step at a time and did without if it wasn't an absolute necessity. My kids are grown and rocking it. We have a modest home, but travel almost non-stop. Our life rocks. Anyone can do it, but you have to be willing to live within your means early on. "Live your life now like no one else does so you can live your life later like no one else can."

Those old green machines will outlive the new, had a customer who took me to his shop and said his newest machine was 50 years old. He was an old man who had the shop in the family since the end of WWII

I love it! I even liked watching you clean the floor under the old machines. I know the feeling of "IT'S HERE!". I have felt it many times when my new cnc machines arrived. I'm retired 1 year now. Have fun!
Congrats, always nice to grow! I built a 3500 employee semiconductor co. We designed and mfgd Integrated Circuits for everything from toys to spacecraft. Originally, started as a design place with outsourced mfg. You know the drill...haha.

I like Steve for several reasons. 1) He is constantly developing the best ways to do / create those awesome engines 2) He is real, two feet on the ground - no bullshit, just facts. 3) He tests, then fails - then tests again to create the best what's out there. As a Canadian, it's nice to see that there still is a few old school business men in America. Work hard, play hard and treat others with respect and put out an awesome and bullet proof product. Not being a prick wandering around whining about politics and your countries problems is another good trait of a real American, that I still have respect for.
I'm an electrician in Connecticut and we do a lot of work in a bunch of machine shops and I love watching these machines come in to hook up. Always interested in what they're doing with them and what they do. makes a lot of sense to bring more stuff in house and invest in the future.
I worked my ass off just like you to be able to start 2 business and heard people say "it's easy for you with all this money!" yeah sure it was easy every Saturday and Sunday working like a slave while everybody is going boating or snowmobiling or whatever ... I freaking love all of your work man!!!!!

I used to work in semiconductor manufacturing in factories (we called them "Fabs") that have hundreds of millions of dollars into "capital equipment". We ran the equipment 24/7/365 to maximize utilization. You might want to consider adding shift(s) to reduce production times and increase throughput. Labor costs obviously will increase, but you already have the building and equipment waiting to be utilized. Assuming adequate demand, this will improve profits. Best wishes going forward!

Once I had it up and running it was a beast, and all those wealthy Miami guys minds were blown at the prototype stuff I was making for their race boats. Same here Steve, same here. I’ve ignored all the naysayers, everyone with doubt. It’s not easy, especially when no one supports you… If you sell a good product, weather it’s goods or service, people are going to be happy and keep coming back… Started small, 23x20 garage… And 3 years later I have zero room for new tools, and customer’s cars lined up like cows for slaughter… lol. I believe next year I’m going to be looking for a bigger shop!

The rottler equipment is awesome, it took me 15 years to aquire my older equipment, but when you tell people all they say is must be nice to have money. CNCs can be a huge pain to get up and running.
We have had new and old Haas and Hurcos that were problem free and we had new ones that seemed like nightmares to get the small details sorted out. But once they were running, watch out chips are flying!
I've been on the ground floor at a new machining business and it sure is a gas when the new machine arrives. Congratulations, Steve, I can't wait to see what the "Big one" is...

I worked for two excellent caliber guys who started re-building flight control empennage’s and surface control stabilizers and ailerons etc. they had their tool boxes and little money, and a small home garage. 20 + years later they own one of the worlds most elite aircraft shops, helping build space vehicles among other things and a few years ago sold to one of Americas biggest aerospace corps for an undisclosed amount, but changed the financial economy of the entire state. All from a couple of tool boxes, a garage, some knowledge and a will to work for themselves. Straight Flight Inc. now a subsidiary of Sierra Nevada Corporation.

I was just thinking, from what I remember, you built up a couple other companies and either got screwed or you left but you started your own business again. You definitely have a talent at what you do. I live in Canada, on disability. I can't even work on my own vehicle anymore. I subscribed to a few channels recommended by Cleetus but just watch Pete, you and Cleetus. I feel like between these 3 I'm learning a few things and understand racing better than I did a couple years ago when I first started watching Cleetus.

I started watching Cletus, however for some reason that I can't put my finger on. It irritates me to no end the way they speak and the words they use. Every other word is "dude" "brother" "spicy" approximately 12 words that they use over and over again. I just find that irritating. Reason I stopped watching.

Spent 40 years in machine shops. I remember the day a flatbed truck rolled in with a new machine twice the size of your new Haas. We pulled the covers off, and the machine was rusty. It caught rain on the way, and the bag wasn't watertight enough to keep rain out, but it was tight enough to cause the rain that got in to sweat and rust that machine. Shipment was refused. Stay healthy, and honest, and believe in yourself. We do. God bless.

Haas are great "bang for the buck" and are just fine for what they're doing.
Oh man, must be nice to have....a wicked work ethic, never ending need to learn, a supportive family, etc, etc. Awesome to see the new equipment coming in. Big stuff coming!!
I feel you, Steve! I've been homeless twice. Once was all my doing, the other time was due to circumstances totally beyond my control. I've now got enough money to do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it. I have an awesome wife and an awesome life and don't owe one single dime to any person or entity. It's all mine! I get it, brother.
I just kept leveraging myself up, one step at a time and did without if it wasn't an absolute necessity. My kids are grown and rocking it. We have a modest home, but travel almost non-stop. Our life rocks. Anyone can do it, but you have to be willing to live within your means early on. "Live your life now like no one else does so you can live your life later like no one else can."

Machines can do a probing operation just fine.. almost no point to own a CMM now.

As a Canadian, it's nice to see that there still is a few old school business men in America. Work hard, play hard and treat others with respect and put out an awesome and bullet proof product. Not being a prick wandering around whining about politics and your countries problems is another good trait of a real American, that I still have respect for.
I'm an electrician in Connecticut and we do a lot of work in a bunch of machine shops and I love watching these machines come in to hook up. Always interested in what they're doing with them and what they do.

I believe that aluminum bag over your machine is what's called a "Faraday cage". To protect the electronics from an EMP.
I used to work in semiconductor manufacturing in factories (we called them "Fabs") that have hundreds of millions of dollars into "capital equipment". We ran the equipment 24/7/365 to maximize utilization. You might want to consider adding shift(s) to reduce production times and increase throughput. Labor costs obviously will increase, but you already have the building and equipment waiting to be utilized. Assuming adequate demand, this will improve profits. Best wishes going forward!

My dad ran Jim Head’s shop for over 30 years and dad assisted Johnny Davis through the years in the NHRA and even turned some laps in a few seasons in a 410 winged sprint car.

Same here Steve, same here. I’ve ignored all the naysayers, everyone with doubt. It’s not easy, especially when no one supports you… If you sell a good product, weather it’s goods or service, people are going to be happy and keep coming back…
Started small, 23x20 garage… And 3 years later I have zero room for new tools, and customer’s cars lined up like cows for slaughter… lol. I believe next year I’m going to be looking for a bigger shop!
You are correct, people just watch the beginning, then make assumptions. The rottler equipment is awesome, it took me 15 years to aquire my older equipment, but when you tell people all they say is must be nice to have money. Lol, machine work is my second job, my first is for insurance, 401k for me and my family. Keep up the great work,
