Bigger Issues First of all, this is motorsport. Of course the driver skill doesn’t fully weight on the results. Specially from the late 80's onwards. That’s obvious.
Second I didn’t said Schumacher was better than Hamilton, because I can’t say that with no bigger value than personal opinion.
And to be honest i really don’t have an opinion on that at all. It’s a tough one. But for me both of them are not the best drivers ever. Though they’re the greatest winners indeed.
Yes, if in one hand the evidence does not support Michael superiority over Hamilton, than it doesn’t do the opposite either. The fact is: Mclaren was a far better car than the early Mercedes, that’s a fact, not opinion. Just look up the numbers.
Schumacher was a 43 retired driver fighting a far younger exceptional talent. He was no more the same Schumacher when he retired in 2006. One can easily say he was far behind hid better form when he returned fours years later.

Schumacher competed with a very low downforce setup. So the car was very angry during in the corner.. With this setup, it is very difficult to control the car in the corner. It was a exhausting drive. Schumi, on the other hand, was able to brake as late as his opponent. It was his master defense ability.
Schumacher had a top speed advantage, but Lewis had a speed advantage in the corner. It also had the benefits of traction and braking.

The McLaren was a better car than Mercedes back then but at this particular race McLaren screwed up Hamilton's gear ratios which resulted in him hitting the rev limiter far too early along the straights which also had the added effect of shutting his DRS long before the braking zones. It was a clear compromised settup and combined with Schumacher's numerous illegal defensive manoeuvres the only reasons there was any kind of battle here.
Hamilton would have easily dispatched Schumy without his car issues while Schumacher himself needed to worry about far more important things like getting obliterated by Nico Rosberg 3-0 from 2010-2012.

Imagine it would have been a lot easier if Hamilton's McLaren could match the Mercedes for speed. The bit where he pulls out of the slipstream on the straight and still can't outpace the Mercedes really highlighted that, and the fact the Mercedes was matching the McLaren for pace with just the raw power whilst Hamilton had slipstream, DRS and the ERS all activated. On a track where top speed is king, Hamilton's lower top speed really hindered him whilst Schumacher could simply breeze past on any long straight.
