Paul Ricard building team: Yes.
It was designed as a test track, that's why there's only tarmac runoff areas. You don't want to punish cars doing test drives. It's just stupid from F1's perspective to run a Grand Prix there.
Pretty sure they built the track before the FIA even considered them for F1. Not their fault.

Me too, but in my case it was the IndyCar race. I was and am still pissed off big time. I blame the brain numbing F1 race.
@@z00h Indy was ok, Dixon's climb was ok and the kerbs falling appart were more entertaning than getting dizzy looking at lines during the F1 race. Too bad I had to watch it in Spanish and they kept muting every sound except for the commentators for some reason.
We've never looked forward to an episode of IBR more than today.

It’s a decent track apart from the lines. It’s the formula 1 cars that can’t follow each other closely that’s killing it
It was decent last year, it was shit this year but that happens like Canada 2018. My only issue with the track is it being a test track so it's all run offs

I was ironing my work shirts at the start of the race.
I was compelled to look up a few times on the first lap, but then I went back to ironing. And before I knew it my shirts were ironed and the race was about 16 laps in and I missed literally nothing and after sitting down to watch the race I can actually say by how fast the first 16 laps went by, that I had more fun ironing.
I used to get really excited to watch a F1 Grand Prix, now the excitement only comes from qualifying

That's what I was going to ask. I only started watching Indycar a few weeks ago and I'm like "wo...these cars can actually follow each other" and they pass each other back and forth...way more interesting than most of the F1 races this season.

@@Duval-In-The-Wall Yeah the Road America race was amazing. They still have some of the same issues I guess. I mean Rossi took off and was never seen again. But still a lot of action happened just for 2nd place alone. I think F1 should fix their rules to be less hand holdy, I am sick and tired of hearing "Reports" from racers about what happened and someone did this or that. Just bloody race mate.
Also it's fine when Dixon get's punted because for some reason this man has a booster rocket or something up his ass and just drives to the front of the field no problem xD.

Agreed, although there was something about Brundle mentioning these stars of the future in such a wistful way; it wasn't just a case of "ones to watch for the future" but almost daydreaming about a hypothetical F1 in which we're not watching Hamilton and Mercedes constantly winning everything.
Although if I may just state something for the record: while the Grand Prix, like much of this season, was tedious and almost frustrating to watch, I've been following F1 since the end of 1992 and we've been here before. Several times of course. A "podcast with the sound of racing cars in the background" is how I've heard this Grand Prix described on reddit, and that actually makes it sounds nice. I still remember the early 2000s with much pain. 2002 Hungarian Grand Prix (probably 2002) - three things of note happened in that race: Michael Schumacher won, obviously; the TV director broke away from the "action" to focus on Ross Brawn on the pit wall eating his customary banana; and James Allen and Mark Blundell (Brundle always used to skip Hungary for some reason...) literally ran out of racing-related things to talk about.
That's not to belittle people decrying F1 this season, it just seems to imply that history has a habit of repeating itself and the fundamental issues that can make F1 almost excruciating to watch at points over the last 30 years or so never seem to get fully resolved.

i've been watching for about 15 years. yesterday i was tempted to just turn it off. but everytime i tried to i caught myself thinking: what if something exciting is just about to happen? and i watched the whole race only to regret it.

I hate how everyone is complaining about how bad this race was, it wasn’t even that bad. Just because the people in the top 6 were not interesting, the whole mid field battle was very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot.
Two words for the F1 situation, that could solve it: ground effect.
Penalty undeserved. How was Perez supposed to know he would gain two positions with a mistake which actually hurt his race more that it did had he just not made the mistake. What else do you expect him to do stop and wait for everyone to drive past as Otmar safnauer said himself. very undesvered.

it honestly baffles me that so many complain about Ricciardo's penalties...I mean yes I fully agree that this is why there should be grass or gravel on EVERY track that is not street track, but in terms of rules there was no question whatsoever that Ricciardo deserved those penalties...
So to all those who say "let them race".....just imagine grass or gravel where Ric went and then try to think whether or not he would have even got past Kimi in first place....

I was riding home from vacation when the race was on. I didn't have any signal because we were going through the florida national forest so I only saw the last 20 laps. Glad I didn't miss much
