    Hello everyone! it's been a while but I've been hard at work on the drawings for this major CNC project. It has required a lot of planning and design changes but it will all be worth it in the end. This video series will document my progress on this ambitious project. This is by far the most expensive DIY project I've ever undertaken, which makes it even more exciting.
    I'll follow this video up with a another one detailed the specs of the machine along with a tour of some of the hardware.
    If you'd like to stay updated, please do head over to my website and subcribe there (link above). You'll be notified whenever I publish new content.
    Take care,
    Gareth

    Yo Gareth! Cheers mate from California. I love machining and building too and just really have enjoyed your content. I leave it on as background when I'm in the shop haha. I have built my own as well, but you really deserve a nod for how thourough you are with every single detail. I mean it. Most people just rush through or feel like they need to show cuts and chip piles, but for any new person interested in cnc diy home building, I would refer them to this series. I dig how it almost walks through, real time, all the planning, finding problems, solving them, then finding new ones that building a reliable robot entails. Sure they can order a JB Shop Cnc plan that is a structural nightmare and might end up killing them, and then there is the correct way. I don't know if you follow the corvette guy... He builds and sells plans that are top notch truly professional grade out of the midwest I believe, but I'll try and link him if now. He does weekly DIY fail videos of youtubers building their own cncs haha. I guarentee he would approve of your efforts here. Anyways, keep it up man. Can't wait to see some projects from your rig.It's a good start to a channel innit. Cheers

    welcome back... you've been missed. I will absolutely follow, I've been thinking about building a CNC / laser combo but it's probably a bit ambitious for me. Thanks,

    Great stuff! I have most of the parts to build something similar. I'll be very interested to see this build.

    Wow fantastic video. Im up in Lancashire and iv been saving (one more month to go) and I was going to get a Genmitsu 4030 V2 and also build my own table, that was about £2k also and much much smaller. Will be holding off now and following here with anticipation. Would be great to see the step file for your table and build guide. You might tempt me here to follow along! Best, James. 👍

    Steel is much cheaper than aluminum. I bought 140A TIG-MIG-SMIG-stick welding machine for 200€ and two angle grinders for 60€ but spent less for material.

    • @thehardwareguy
      @thehardwareguy  Před 8 měsíci

      I couldn't find it at those prices near me. Welding is definitely something I want to learn and become skilled at! I will look to do this in the future when I build an even larger machine

    Looks to be a cool project. Just a question, do u think you can do more freecad tutorials?

    • @thehardwareguy
      @thehardwareguy  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Possibly in the future! I got a little frustrated with the FreeCAD user interface which made making tutorials very unenjoyable for me. I'll keep an eye on it 👍🏻

      Mach 3 works for me
      I chopped in half a 12 x 5 tecno isel and welded 2 ft to one half. my comfortable cutting area is 52 '"x 72" . My shop is on the 6th floor. now I have another half to build. Lawrence Masachusetts.

    Is it just for wood and other soft materials or will it machine metal too?

    • @thehardwareguy
      @thehardwareguy  Před 8 měsíci +1

      This will definitely machine aluminium and bright mild steel is also a very real possibility. I will be experimenting with this when the machine is built

    Question? Is there anyone out there who would know how to build a large format printer from parts reclaimed from smaller inkjet printers? I would like to build my own. CNC router decks are just a short step to this build.

    i hope youre gone use linux cnc because using something like grbl would be a waste of the machine youre building. grbl is fun for something like a 3020 cnc but for a machine like you are building its like having a moped engine in a lamborgini. if youre gone use linux cnc i would be happy to help with any problems you have since i have some expirence with it.

    • @thehardwareguy
      @thehardwareguy  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hello! Yes, you're absolutely right. I definitely won't be using grbl on this machine. I will likely start out with Mach3, although I am definitely open to alternatives. I did a bit of research on LinuxCNC and Acorn. I'm open to any advice / recommendations!

      @@thehardwareguy the problem with mach3 is that it runs on window. windows is fun and all for checking your mail and play videogames but when it comes to do something like this linux is the better option. i know the learning curve of linux might seem a little steep but at the end you have way more possibilities then mach3.
      if you need any help with the project i would love to help. i build my own cnc router 1 year ago and found that there werent any direct videos about how linux worked and since youre filming the project it would be a great way for other people to find how linux works.
