      The great thing about pedals though is they generally retain value and sell fast. You just have to convince yourself to part with it after you're done. XD

    I love this pedal for my bass guitar. Plug in to my Trace Elliott bass amp, direct out into my Scarlett interface then combine it with a BOSS loop pedal/drum pedal along with any additional effects pedals. The coolest thing is that I can record with my iPhone or since the Scarlett interface requires no power supply I can use BandLab, Garage Band or whatever to record on the tour bus, Van, hotel room etc on the go. Huge sounds and a good variety. And while certainly there’s a good learning curve to it at the beginning everything is preset and easy to understand and maneuver. Put simply. I am an older man and never used bass effects other than a volume wah until recently and it has been nothing but fun. Big bang for your buck.

    Nice pedal for plug and play...but now boss has to update the tones. I had a 80s GR707 for years...and this pedal has the EXACT same sounds that the old GR had....with most, if not all, of the unusable noise patches included here...After 40 years (Going on 1/2 CENTURY of old technology and Nintendo sounds), it's time to come up with some modern sounds already. Otherwise, this would be great to use for a wide range of situations.

    Just a reminder that getting low-latency synth-like sounds from a guitar without pitch-detection goes back to at least 1995 (VG-8). The more recent 2015 (SY-300) innovation was doing it polyphonically without a hex pickup. (And there are still more things you can do with a hex pickup & an SY-1000 or Spicetone 6appeal for those who want to go deeper.)

    • @sordel5866
      @sordel5866 Před 2 lety +1

      The VG-8 was great: I've owned it for over twenty years and have never seen the need to replace or upgrade it. But in terms of price and practicality the technology has now been brought within the reach of many more guitarists.

    • @RobertFisher1969
      @RobertFisher1969 Před 2 lety +1

      @@sordel5866 Well, there are still things that the VG-8 will do that the GP-10, SY-1, SY-200, & SY-300 won’t do. To do it all still costs the price of the SY-1000. But-yes-the developments from both Boss/Roland & other companies are great at bringing down the price for parts of it.

      Try using a compressor with it, it really helps, gives more instant attack. Works on the EHX ones too. It cuts down guitar type dynamics which makes it more like an organ. Gotta learn organ licks too, typical guitar licks do not work so well. That said, I rarely use it, except for background stuff in recordings and one tune or two out of hundreds. Boss can achieve. A lot more work, but far more interesting results. You will have to buy an entire Eurorack of modules to do this; which will cost 3-4x what this pedal costs.

    Excellent video again from this fine channel. I have one of these small beasts & while it's not a replacement for standard expression pedals, it does serve to augment one's home studio setup. If one is looking for a dedicated keyboard pedal, then the Electroharmonics Key9 expression pedal makes a string case with its 'clean' sounds. I have this as well. One further point, both these pedals work well with both electric as well as electro-acoustic guitars.

    1- How does the Sound Hold function work? Can I simply play on it while holding a synth or pad sound i.e.? And when the hold mode is active, is it possible to change the preset without breaking that held sound?
    2- Are the factory presets actually created with the settings that are also tweakable by the user? I mean, if I delete a patch, it's gone for good or can I simply create the same with the available settings?

    Intro sounds like a detective crime drama from 1986.

    Problem is if i want a synth sound i ll use a synth. But this might suit a guitarist with a passimg interest in synthesis who doesnt play keys at all

    According to the auto generated captions, the intro is music, followed by foreign music, followed by uh music….

    Boss has released quite a few new things recently. I am hoping for a new GK3 compatible device to be the successor to the GR-55. The SY-1000 does not quite fill those shoes.

    Looks like you need a sound man or board operator to make that thing fly.

    Can you do the fx/dry signal volume mix with an expression pedal?

    Along with phaser and flanger I couldn’t put this to any use. Great for little bits and pieces but I guess that’s where I lack total creativity

      Yes, many pedals still include a ring modulator also...How often do you use the ring modulator????? I never have in 40 years.
