65 years old went to New Stylistics with Russel T Jr. Cincert in Sacramento CA last week Heard Payback is a Dog and thought i knew all the songs but somehow this one got by me. Its a favorite of mine now. Right up there with Backstabbers.

Wikipedia has been updated to indicate Van Fields was replaced by Jason Sharpe in 2011. Both Evan and Van joined the group in 2000 (Van left for health reasons) and the two James (Smith and Dunn) left the group in 1977. Those who love Airron's co-lead on "You Make Me Feel Brand New" will also love it on "You Ought To Be With Me" and "Thank You Baby." Also, Evan Brown has some excellent solo tracks. Look them up!

I'm sorry but there is no Stylistics without Russel Thompkins Jr. My opinion only. That's the Stylistics I know and grew up with. Not these other guys saying they the Stylistics and been performing 30 years.

Bella Alfarez......Eban was hired to impersonate Russell when Russell walked out in 2000. Russell Thompkins has more originals in his group because the band, the conductor/ keyboard player, the choreographer, Raymond Johnson, and Jonathon Buckson all left and are with Russell in his new Stylistics. Only originals left were Airion Love and Herb Murrell..stage dancers/ p erformers....they hired Eban to sing Russell's songs, and Jason Shark for 3rd dancer/ singer. Hope that answers your questions Russell is 70 and still touring and performing . Only originals in the group is love and Murrell.
The guy who replaced Russell is very good, for some reason I always got the impression that Russell wasn't a happy guy when I would see him perform the other guys in my opinion carried the show, I guess money always break up these great groups.
It wasn't money Russell was the only one in the studio they use others background singers They was only used in road concert. Russell was the core. The producer/songwriter did not like the other member singing that is why he used different background singers
You have that backwards buddy. They didnt carry any show....Russell carried THEM for 30+ years. He did all the recording, lead singing, albums, ...they didnt sing on first 3 albums or 10 out of 12 in a row top hits. He was unhappy, treated very badly and quit. He carried them and the whole entourage for all the years. Why do you think they split!!!

Was going to quit 10 years earlier and Eddie kendricks of Temptations told him he shouldn't because he was the Stylistics!...too many people depended on him .....he stayed 10 more years and left. He said load lifted off his shoulders immediately.

The " Russell Person" is the original singer who with his music teacher in high school put the remnants of two groups together, Russell's Monarcks ( Russell Airion and james Dunn) with 2 other guys that sang in Percushion group ( herb Murrell and James Smith)...they cut a record " Big Girl Now". Sang at restaaurant/ bar Russell's mom worked in. Russell was approached by song writer Thom Bell and Linda Creed who saw something in Russell but did not like the singing of the other 4. They wrote songs for Russell who recorded them with studio professional singers as background. 12 straight top hits, many albums. He alone made & sang them. Gold records, silver, platinum albums. Double platinum...all Russell's songs but Arion sang duo on only 2 of the 12 with Russell. He was lead singer on over 300 songs and 30+ years until he quit. Now they cover ( imitate) his songs and tour with HIS songs. Russell has new Stylistics and travels ,tours, and many guest appearances. He did all the records but made sure the money was split evenly. He refused to split group to go single or replace them... he was faithful to them and carried them for 30+ years. They turned on him...he left them.as has Eban and 2 other singers who tried to replace Russell. That's who Russell is.
Absolutely adore the Stylistics, my husband used to sing your songs to me, it was so beautiful, made me cry. God Bless him, he is in heaven now!
