I’m excited for the Tomb Raider Trilogy Remastered. As a guy who grew up on these games it’s awesome to finally experience them once again and relieve my childhood.
Never played the old ones all the way through but I'm happy somebody gets some tombraider love. Only played the modern... remakes? Retelling of the story? Idk how to classify them, what do think of those? Might consider picking this up and giving it another try when it comes out.
That’s how I’m feeling about all these remakes.. I feel like they’re making them for the older gamers
@@ChillyChief612 You’re right, it’s kind of a remake, retelling of the franchise. Great games, too!
@@Chocobobob True. Like, there some remakes I look at and go, “ummm, I guess.” But for this occasion I’m stoked!
@@octaviocarrion2774 Resident Evil and Tomb Raider have my soul in a head lock
Your enthusiasm and energy is so lovely to watch! As a millennial who grew up with the Tomb Raiders I am so excited to be able to experience them all again with a lovely fresh lick of paint! Hope you stream them 😊
The only thing missing is the original RE 1-3 trilogy released and remastered on modern platforms. Got on the damn ball Capcom!
This
Modders once again doing the developers job. Check out the seamless HD mod for those games. You need PC and an emulator but if you can get it working it looks pretty good. There is also one for the original re4 called HD project mod
@@Chaso-1124 Oh yeah, I'm very familiar with those but thanks anyway. I mainly want Capcom to do this because it'd give me an excuse to replay them with achievements. lol Also, it'd give them the chance to add more content/modes to them if that's even possible.
@@daveweaver3886
It seems Capcom is more interested in rebooting the series. That is what these remakes are
I like remakes because it help fill in some story gaps, as well as go into more detail of the main story line.
I’m excited for tomb raider remastered. I’m definitely purchasing it. Also excited for separate ways. And I believe remasters and remakes are good. Like you said it makes older games more palatable.
I miss your "Lets Play" videos, its been a while. They are really fun and entertaining. Please, Kai!!!
I genuinely think 2023 has been one of the greatest years in a LONG TIME. so far We've had Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, Starfield, Jedi Survivor, Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy 16, Armoured Core, Pikmin 4, Dead Space Remake and Hogwarts Legacy. We still have games like Spider-Man 2, Lies of P, Alan Wake 2 and MK1 still to release. Probably missed some but that's one hell of a lineup and so much better than the last few years.
Even though iv'e only known about resident evil for 4 years you're the person who really got me into it! Thanks Kai!
Surprise you didn't mentioned Alan Wake 2 coming out next month. Our man Alan has been chilling in the shadows, never seeing the light, typing his life away, forever staying unaWake
Can't wait to play Alan wake 2!
You’re looking ridiculously happy and healthy here, Kai ❤️🙌
he has an new BF
Not to mention hott 😅
I'm absolutely excited for basically everything you touched on! I have had a lack of excitement for many new titles, but I'e been so busy clearing a bit of my backlog and playing games like Smash Ultimate, SF6, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and MGSV that it hasn't really bothered me too much ^^
Dude, seeing your enthusiasm for the TR remasters is so friggjn awesome. Can't wait. It's going to be amazing. 😁
I love the original Clock Tower.
It was like the first Survival Horror game.
I am excited about many of the same games mentioned. I also went through a slump where I kind of felt like there was nothing that interested my gaming palate as I am from the same gen as you. That ended though midway through the PS4 life cycle and now there have been many awesome releases leading into this amazing gaming year. I also have a big backlog because adulting is demanding on time but I am truly happy to have a chance to experience awesome remakes that allow me to relive some of my favorite gaming memories when I was younger!
Watching this video and really related to everything you talk about. 2023 has been a really good year. I hadn't purchased any games for some time.
Can't wait to play the TR Gold expansions finally! Been waiting for this remaster since 2005. My body is ready!
Yeah, Unicorn Overlord has me stoked about future gaming.
Lmfao every time you talk to your cat I think of that lamas with hats show lol “caaaaarrl!”
I’m Gen z but still vividly remember getting games for my 360 and being able to play day 1. No 80gb updates or in your face micro transactions
The beginning of the video made me laugh 🤣! As an old gamer, I understand what you said. I've been playing mostly old games but some new stuff really gets me hyped! Oh, and Sphere Hunter showing up was AWESOME ❤️❤️❤️
P s.: I'm PRAYING that Sony will use that streaming device as a second screen like the WiiU... could be so awesome....
MGS4 being unshackled from the PS3 will be one of the greatest moments in videogame history.
People are mad about remakes is because remakes changes a lot of the original things and removing things that are so cool that's why we are mad =D
Yeah, they should always do at the bare minimum at least a port of the original games too when doing a remake.
Cos even good remakes like RE2 didn’t preserve everything (Leon and Claire barely interact no zapping system etc.) so having the original alongside it would have been good.
A hundred times so more for re3 cos while enjoyable the remake misses so much in what made the original great.
Luckily RE4 original is still easily available so people can play a version where the villains interact with Leon and get screen time lol
@sonicsean34 why can't they do remake just like the crash bandicoot n sane trilogy remake and nitro kart remake why can't they do remakes like this if do that then everyone will be happy :D
@@Jasm783 I’ve not played the Crash games but people do seem happy with those versions for being faithful.
I feel reinterpreting a game is also cool but the original version should always be easily available on modern devices (this goes with films that have director's cuts too, cos often both versions are good in different ways and don’t replace each other )
@sonicsean34 when u want to remake something make it faithful to the original.... end of story :D
Im millenial born in 1984 and i love gaming, Resident evil is my favorite gaming series ever.
Hehe I'm from 2003 I like RE too. I like the originals and remakes... except for 3 remake... the thing I like about remakes is that I can still go back to the original and see difrences and changed events. But some originals are bangers like the re 1 remake. I also really like resident evil chronicles which I think is very underrated.
We’re literally the exact same gamer. Right up to “Village… never went back to it… Ill get back to it eventually” 😂
Really excited for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I can't wait to see what's going on with Zack. Also Separate Ways, Tales of Arise Beyond the Dawn, Silent Hill 2 Remake and Metal Gear Solid Delta.
Others not mentioned are Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes, Suikoden 1&2 HD Remaster, Star Ocean The Second Story R, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door...
I'm excited for everything ^^
The way you describe about the PlayStation Portal being perfect for you is so wholesome man! I love when everyone is happy with everything gaming! 👌😇
I was just having this almost exact conversation with a friend of mine. I think that fall of 2023 will go down as one of the better game release periods of the last decade.
Being excited about gaming in my 30s is different from being excited about gaming in my teens.
I’ve had enough go on with me by now that a video game doesn’t really do it for me anymore.
These days, I’m more excited about my hobbies.
But to be fair… Tomb Raider Trilogy Remastered? Oh yes. Yes yes yes yes yes.
Me too tbh, the passion is back!!!
Awesome as always thanks dude
Yeah, I should have not been allowed to be this excited about the Tomb Raider Remasters. Next year? I can't wait that long. It needs to be next week!
With remakes and remasters, I want more content at the cost of A and B tier graphics. And then theres RE 1 Remake that does it all.
Never really got to enjoy Tomb Raider 1-3 myself but when it got announced; I was immensely excited. Like... I grew up hearing about these games but couldn't afford to play them.
It's always good when folks are excited about stuff and the second hand hype is real. I can't wait to see you cover the Tomb Raider Trilogy. I love OG Lara from everything I seen.
I wanna hear you nerd out about OG Lara too. Like how I watch Max nerd out about FF7. It just makes me smile.
Thanks for another awesome video Kai ❤
August and Sept really make me excited about gaming again.. with the release of Armored Core.. Baldur's Gate.. and soon the Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty..
There are pros and cons when it comes to Remakes or Remasters.
Like Super Mario 3D Remastered let's people play Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. Those games where locked behind older consoles.
But God of War 4 and Last of Us getting released over and over with a slight update being sold at full price. Now that is some bullshit.
As for Remakes it's great that we get to play our favorite old games with new life. Like FF7 Remake, Paper Mario TTYD Remake and Dead Space Remake.
But a new entry to a series could be a hit or miss.
I didn’t know about that handheld from Sony! Thank you for the info!
I still have my PSP and cherish it ❤
Bro I am so excited for the Tomb Raider Trilogy! I have the games on the PS1 and I haven’t found the time to hook up my PS1. I play my Switch almost every end of the day. I can't wait to finally play those games for the first time. Honestly this was the most exciting announcement for me from the direct. hope that Revelations and Chronicles would be part of the collection either DLC or a separate collection.
Same can be said for the MGS master collection. (Yes I'm one of those who never played any of the games.)
Back in your day seperate ways came with RE4 on ps2
Ink ribbon if you see this I just wanted to say I love your channel and all the different video topics that you do and I especially love the video that you did today tackling how you felt about video games and stuff like that because I wouldn't percent agree with you as a fan of video game in general that a lot of these companies should hear us out his fans because a lot of the franchise that we do care about or some of the most successful game series that are responsible for capcom's success on keeping them alive as a company and one of the games I always wish they would bring back as a series is the onimusha series and if I had to describe this series it was literally supposed to be resident evil but feudal Japan theme if you do happen to know which game series I'm talking about understandably the first game from the series is onimusha warlords which understandably didn't get a remaster and did very well as sold a lot of copies and that's why I really wish they would do like a full HD collection remastered of the game and eventually maybe get back to the series and do one last final one cuz I know the fourth game in the series is were they left off where they were supposed to be hints of the final game but rather than that dude I love your passion for gaming and the things you talked about and like I said before I do agree us as fans we should have not like a say-so on how things go but maybe being allowed to voice our opinions on what we grew up with as a fandom of the franchise is that Capcom has pumped out throughout the years and you know helping them understand what made them successful in the first place what made them who they are but you get my point and probably going to cut it off here cuz I feel like it's getting a little too long
I'm 30 and I'd say, from 2012 to 2020 I thought I had lost interest in video games (except RE) but Then I played Sekiro and it just blew my mind, after that I played Bloodborne (
Just learning about Alone in the Dark, that's exciting because I've essentially forgotten about that game entirely. It seems like there's a lot of good on the horizon. Personally I love the remake/remaster culture. Good for the developer and great for the fans. Truly a win/win in my eyes.
I pre-ordered the ps portal as well. Will be perfect for me due to family and spending time in same room while I stream on the device when the TV is being used.
Ive never been so excited to play classic Tomb Raider again. It is great that we get to experience old classics on modern consoles. If people dont like remakes or remaster, they've always got all the other great game releases to play anyway.
I'm really excited for Tomb Raider. The 3rd one was one of my first PlayStation games and the disc has since broken so it'll be nice to be able to go back to it again. Especially with updated visuals. And it's gonna be coming out on Switch so I can play it on my lunch break at work!!
I feel the same. There hasn't been a game in years that has pulled me in and I've been mega excited for which is a shame.
I like remasters because it means games that could of been lost forever people can still play.
Can't wait for MGS collection as I haven't played them in years! Plus Alan wake 2 yay!
All they gotta do is upscale it like to 750p-1080p w/ 60fps, upscale the menus and icons, upscale the backround images that some retro games uses.
I perfer mods that can give higher ingame details from grass trees to retextured characters, enemies, weapons, and enhanced controls with the controllers would be sweeet because you need a N64 controller to play Golden Eye on emulators
I'm excited about Tomb Raider, I've played practically every part but I never managed to finish the first ones, and just a few days ago I played Metal Gear Solid 5. I was fascinated by this game and I can't wait for the new versions because I've only beaten the first one of the older ones.
I absolutely love your excitement Kai and I screamed when I saw the Tomb Raider Remake/Remaster ❤️❤️❤️
Also I love the quality of your video captures lately
Thank you, Kai! Your obvious love and devotion for games/gaming shines through 💚 can't wait to see Separate Ways; really wish Silent Hill & Dino Crisis would get the remake/remaster treatment.
Am staying tuned! 😊
I think the general disdain for remakes and remasters comes from the PS3-PS4 era, when companies tended to fill up launch periods with quick remasters of past generation games that were only a few years old. It was very clearly a quick and cheap way to pad the libraries of new consoles with low effort titles.
I don't think anyone has problems with remasters or remakes of old titles, particularly those that are hard to obtain or play in current systems.
I think 2023 will go down as one of the greatest years in gaming. Its sorta absurd. I think it deals with SO much getting pushed back due to pandemic etc its caused such a banger year to take place.
10:02 FREE UPDATE. That could have easily been monetized. Good on Capcom
Well re4 was a big success and they gained a lot and i mean a LOT of money soo if i got that much money i would make it free too
I Love remasters and Remakes...
If they are well done
As I'm watching the video right now, I have to agree with you. I see why there are people that dislike remakes/remasters, but I really see merit in a well-done remake or remaster. In Resident Evil's case, my mind most immediately flocks to RE1's remake, which most will agree is so good that it outright replaces the original. I think touching up on an older game in ANY meaningful way can be very fruitful if it goes a long way towards better producing the experience that the developers orignally wanted to share with us. Heck, even the HD Remaster of the first REmake gets high praise form a lot of people because of how much work was clearly put into the product to sharpen the edges of that graphical fidelity and immerse us more into the horror.
Metroid Prime Remastered is another *mostly* shining example of why these touch-ups can do some real good. I can't tell you the amount of people I've already seen that formerly swore off the Prime games or even Metroid in general because it looked like it just wouldn't click with them for one reason for another. These individuals then proceeded to stream themselves playing the remaster inly to find themselves blown away by it and questioning why they've abstained for so long and clamoring for more! Talon IV looks absolutely gorgeous in the remaster, and really only small things like the doors and the beam particle effects are things I've seen people complain about on a presentation side.
As far as any video ideas for the future, would you consider a "Top 5/10 Franchises That Capcom Should Bring Back" sort of thing? I'd personally out Viewtiful Joe and Onimusha at the top of my list, with Dino Crisis taking the third spot!
Im so happy with separate ways and Tomb Raider remasters 🔥❤️
I'm also a millennial and a gamer. I play games on my free time when I'm not at work. I'm also excited for Separate Ways & to get to play Mortal Kombat 1, Super Mario RPG & South Park: Snow Day on the Switch. I never had a Switch now I do I only have 2 games for it. And I'm excited for Tomb Raider too.
I got into Tomb Raider recently and currently playing the the first one (96). I'm excited for the remasters that don't need mods for the DLC.
I'd kill for them to do parasite eve remaster.
I have only partially played through Parasite Eve and enjoyed every bit of it. Would absolutely love to see a remaster.
I'd love a remake, though after 3rd Birthday, idk if Square can really make a good horror rpg anymore. Even FF7 Remake heavily censored the blood trail scene, changing the blood color and removing the dead bodies that were in the Ps1 game. PE is so gruesome with its cutscenes, I doubt Square would wanna touch it, plus with the game being in New York, they'd have to pay up the ass for all the recreation and licensing issues that come with recreating a real city.
Glad LRG is localizing Clock Tower.
I'm mixed right now, yeah im always happy for new games even new series even if it doesn't stick for me including new game directions.
I'm super happy for the TR Golden age era (aka the trillogy) coming to Switch. I'm also looking forward to the 2DHD remake of Dragon Quest 3, Separate Ways RE4 DLC... hopefully new Dino Crisis game. I'm also happy that there is some development of the first 4 Shining Force games getting remakes/fan mods.
However this year I'm possibly one of the few folks who is a bit saddened that Vanpool a small company has sadly shut down which made the obscure Dillon's Dead Heat Breakers trillogy which is one of my favourite 3DS games and one of my favourite action games. It didn't make sense to me that the company got shut down because they got a big hit with making the recent Kirby game and I was hoping for Switch sequel/remaster of the Dillon Trillogy. The reason I talk about Dillon Dead Heat Breakers/Rolling Western Trillogy is because the games are very unique in style and gameplay, think of Devil May Cry/Bayonetta/3D Ninja Gaiden + with tactical tower defense games + Dead Rising's brutal time schedule. Yeah the game does demand either high skill to beat levels or perfection for the later levels.
I am too! Just release games in a.. fixed? working? state lol! Love the content, bud!
I agree, man. I enjoy older games more than the newer games. Back in the day there was no microtransactions, no pointless DLC's, no over the top skins, no pay to win. It's just simple, pure fun.
When it comes to franchises, its a double edge sword. For example bl2 was amazing but when bl3 came along it was appalling.
But i seriously can't wait for the Tomb Raider reamster trilogy
Im looking forward to seeing the master collection of Metal Gear Solid I think its great I had the first one for PS1 but the game disc become scratched so this is will make my set complete
Appreciate you making this video dude, it's right on the money (haha) when it comes to how a lot of us feel. I am older but I agree with you 100%, especially in regards to FFVII rebirth... what a literal dream come true.
Tomb Raider Trilogy remaster is something ive been hyped about since I never played the OG and want to experience them for the first time.
But on the discussion about Remakes and Remasters, I still think its a necessity because many games that were spectacular on their original consoles soon get lost into time and a Remake really brings back people to those memories and nostalgia on brand new shining hardware.
Though granted there are some that get them because they are the most iconic games of all time (Final Fantasy 7 is the biggest example) but there are some that are fan favorites that desperately need one (Dino Crisis and My most requested by Sony, The Legend of Dragoon) amazing games that didnt get the most attention and big mainstream love and praise but a fans love and cherish them to their fullest that want their favorite games to continue on.
I'm excited for Tomb Raider. I never really fully played the original ones and this release is just perfect! The original release with a little touch up so it doesn't feel too modern but also not too old.
This year has been amazing for game reveals. Suikoden 1 and 2, Croc, Gex, MGS3 remake, MGS collection coming to current consoles and now the Tomb Raider Trilogy is amazing. I don't have the words to describe how excited I was when they revealed MGS∆ and the TR trilogy reveal was close.
No problem at all with remasters. It's great for games to remain available in an improved version of their original forms. I'm a bit done with remakes though, because they always feel like attempts to replace the classics.
It’s a good time to be a gamer. So excited that my favorite games are getting remakes and remasters or got them already. FF7, RE2 and Tr2
I agree, this is the first time I’ve been excited for a new release since 2018.
I agree 100% with everything you said! I lost touch with gaming that my ps4 is really just to watch CZcams and movies but more for background noise. The most excited I am for is Tomb Raider! It’s literally my first video game ever and it holds a special place in my heart and it’s the first time in a good while where I’m excited to play a video game again! Also unrelated but Kai is just a damn Cutie! 😏😂❤️😭❤️❤️❤️
Pretty sure that we are the same age man, grew up and love the same games as you (never played sims but my wife does). Im excited to!
The problem is that the current AAA entertainment industry especially the western AAA game industry doesn't like to innovate and mainly do what they know works.
That's the point I was trying to make. Every single AAA game feels and looks the same now. The UI, the controls, the mechanics, etc
@@InkRibbonliterally blizzard with overwatch 2 lmfao 😂
@@InkRibbon Yeah, it is pretty clear when looking at the western game industry and I do hope great games come so the AAA industry can have some good competition (because competition creates innovation). For example, Fromsoftware made Elden Ring which is an open-world game that is competing with others including Ubisoft's current-day Assassin's Creed games or Larian made BG3 (Baulder's Gate 3) which is an RPG that is competing with others including Activision's Diablo IV. There aren't much great games coming out of AAA, the reason why I keep going back to old games and playing some interesting games while coming back for the current day great games for example a Survival-horror RPG series called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or a Vampire RPG called Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (Unofficial Patch recommended).
@nahCyzar0520 I would legit love to see a AAA horror RPG. I would play the shit out of that. I feel horror is so dominant in indie titles , which is not bad don't get me wrong. But maybe a 3d rpg like fallout but just make everything as grotesque as possible and a creepy setting would be a easy 70$ spent from me.
@@ChillyChief612 Basically describes the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series the only thing is the upcoming game is AAA in the series don't think the previous games were but it has mutants that can easily kill you, you are in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, and a neat story. The only things are that the first 2 games it is recommended to play with mods on 1st playthrough and it being developed in Ukraine which will effect the development.
Im with you! Gaming has been a rollercoaster! I was done with modern gaming... then i wasn't! Haha
I miss you dude☺️🫶🏼 hope all is well!!!
Gaming is awesome and great video kai
i had the same feeling a couple of years ago. until june 2018, when Capcom dropped Resident Evil 2 (2019) and especially DEVIL MAY CRY 5.
And Square Enix with Kingdom Hearts 3.
I totally felt like in my old gaming days, and i was so excited to play these games.
And so, i am excited to play Seperate Ways on the Remake as well. Can´t say i am excited about TR Remastered, since i SUCK at the PSX Games. ^^;
Oh, and a Dino crisis Remastered would be nice. Huge Regina Fan here.
I'm very excited for the Paper Mario Thousand Year Door remake/remaster. I'm a 2001 baby, so it's nice to see everything that I just barely missed out on come out again with more modern design philosophies.
Yeah! Been having that feeling until this year. I haven't had a chance to play a new Armored Core or Bethesda rpg in a Decade.
Yes. 2023 is a really great year for gaming, at least announcements has been the most exciting for years. We could get GTAVI trailer in the same year too !
I’m 39 and have been gaming since I can remember. All these remakes and remasters are amazing! I’ve still got my old PS3 hooked up cos there’s so many games stuck on there, including the old Tomb Raiders. More remasters would be very welcome!
I'm 20 and I agree, while being in more of modern age of gaming I like remakes for the new direction the game can head in and how it compares to the original. If the original is good on its own it still has playability, I don't like looking at it through the same lens as movie remakes.
I'll be 40 next month and have been playing since the NES and I'm incredibly excited for the TR Trilogy and MGS∆
@@Gamesta100 I’m turning 40 next month too! Happy Birthday for then! 😄
@@ChillyChief612 Glad to see young gamers appreciating games from before their time!
I see you, with that DOA5 on Vita!
I miss getting a game day one and knowing the bugs have pretty much been worked out. Nowadays, I think that's taken a lot of the excitement away for me. Cyberpunk and Halo were the last games I was excited for that wasn't an RE and they both disappointed me so much.
I'm more excited playing all the older games I missed as I've built a new gaming PC. Steam ftw.
The first games i played were the classic Tomb Raider, Little Big Adventure and MDK. Tomb Raider is getting the remaster; Little Big Adventure is getting a reboot/remake; and i would love an MDK remaster/remake.
I love remaster and remakes. I can enjoy the games of the past with the quality of life of this time
I love Your videos Ink!🙂
My reaction to Tomb Raider Remaster was like "Lmao nicely prepared fake with all this Nintendo Direct overlay", I just saw a clip at first, I googled it and I was real indeed... We classic Lara fans were asking about this for years and it's finally happening. Really excited for it and Separate Ways.
About remasters... If it makes sense to do (game is old, hard to access on modern platforms), there is a high demand and it will be enough work put into it. Then yeah I'm all for them and I will support it.
Good remakes/remasters are for me - TR Anniversary, RE Remakes, Nier Replicant, Quake 1 and 2
Bad remakes/remasters/ports (doesn't make sense or they are just bad) - TLoU Part 1, XIII, P3 Portable (bad port), Sillent Hill HD Collection
Gonna play the portal in bed when I am too tired or my back hurts. Perfect for me as well.
I was just replaying Tomb Raider 1 this Week and than this Trailer hit, i am hyped about it, but somehow i think i will have replayed all the Games until it comes out :>...
Not sure if i'll buy it.
I love your healthy attitude towards remakes and remasters. In a world where 87% of classic video games are critically endangered, remakes and remasters are a form of preservation too.
I also disagree with critics of remakes, because unlike films, it's not simply a cash-grab. Those developers were limited by the hardware and engine limitations of the time, and thus couldn't really bring their visions to life in a way that's possible now, both in terms of mechanics as well as visuals. And most remakes aren't sold at full AAA retail price either, that also eases the burden, so I'm completely in favour of remakes and upgrading those classics we all loved. I'm super happy about the TR remakes, and I would honestly even buy a Tekken 3 / SF 2 remake if it was ever made.
I'm so excited about the tomb raider remaster growing up Lara croft alongside jill Valentine in re3 original, spyro and test drive 5 were my go to games. I fully agree that remastered icons are just as fun as the Ole originals I flipped with spyro and resident evil re-releases 😊. And with now having a young daughter, it will be fun to watch her see those worlds and experience them while I laugh as she gets stuck in all the same places I did long ago. For nostalgia, I still have the originals and a gen 1 ps2 that I play from time to time, when the tray wants to open that is.
I literally cried when I saw the TR remasters
Telling of the current state of the industry that every game in the thumbnail is either a remake of a PS1 one game or a remake of a PS2 sequel to a PS1 game.
Same man, same
I find that gaming's always had its ups and downs and it's heavily based on what games you're a fan of. There've been various different stretches of years where nothing that came out really interested me, whether on the original spectrum or the remake/remaster spectrum, but that doesn't mean I can say that gaming sucked for those periods. Different fandoms have the times of their lives during different periods and being around all the different gaming communities online I still feel their enthusiasm for gaming even if I'm not getting the content for the limited number of franchises I'm interested in. This year's been particularly nostalgic for a lot in the millennial crew cause stuff like FF, SF, RE, MK, BG etc. are older franchises that were popping off at the same time in the past. But that's still a very specific bracket of games in time.
When it comes to remasters, remakes and original stuff, I always would prefer more original content. A remaster is like a cleaned-up photo album of a vacation trip, whereas an original game is like actually going on the trip for the first time. So as nice as remasters are for accessibility and preserving games, I still prefer at least a remake with a new take cause that's still a new experience. When I saw the announcement for the TR remasters, I thought it was nice, but I was only happy for other people who may have wanted it, or who may never have played them before. I wasn't happy for me. I already know what a hot HD Lara Croft looks like. I already know how to get past the drill room in Aldwych, or how to find all the prayer wheels in the monastery, or that the loch ness jump scare is coming. The remasters only interest me as far as seeing first-timers play through them.
The one thing I would like games companies to do more when doing all these remasters is to actually look back at what worked in those games to revue he them for new games, cos so many good bits of design got thrown away cos it was not modern and shiny when the modern replacement didn’t fill the same needs for fans. Be it game features or whole design styles.
Like when Sony America made it hard to get 2D games published on PS1 so many of those game types died for 20 years cos publishers deluded themselves into thinking “no one wants that type of thing” until indie developers proved them wrong.
Or how RE2 remake made the industry realise ppl like to play proper survival horror and it didn’t have to just be basic action games that have monsters (yeah okay re7 deserves some of that recognition too but re2make is what solidified it)
I'm a millennial and I had that slump of not really looking forward to anything until they had announced the RE2 Remake a couple years back. Got even more excited when they finally released FF7 Remake (always been a FF fan). Then, a friend recommended Persona 5 Royal and I've been hooked. Now, I'm looking forward to FF7 Rebirth, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, Persona 3 Reload, and Metal Gear Solid Delta.
SAME BRO I CANT WAIT FOR PERSONA 3 RELODED. I became a persona fan in 2019 and now I'm addicted to the franchise.
It's a great time for gamers born in the 90s, all of our childhood classics are being remasted/remade and it takes each and every one of us straight back to our childhood, sitting in our living rooms with that huge crackling glass television!!!! And I'm soaking up and absolutely loving every single moment is it!!!!
