The Boomerang Flower was added to Super Mario Maker 2 in the new update! The World Maker Update to Mario Maker 2 added a ton of new power-ups like the Boomerang Flower, Super Acorn, Frog Suit, bosses such as the Koopalings, and even an entire World Maker! Mario Maker 2 Update 3.0 is the most content packed update to date; although Nintendo has called it the final major update. Hopefully it still remains one of the best games to buy for the Nintendo Switch!

10:28 People have been making SMM levels for years, and this is the first time I've ever seen a single person call out these "puzzles" that are actually just surprisingly simple mechanisms that use a power-up in the most basic way possible
It's not on the level of Refreshing Levels because at least I'm doing something, but I still feel like they clutter up the search when I'm trying to find actual *ahem* puzzles.

those non puzzle puzzles could be fun as a reward in a traditional level, but on thier own they feel unearned

Perhaps a name such as "Gimmick Level" would be more befitting than puzzle?
I mean, they do often revolve around utilizing an item to its fullest potential without also requiring precision platforming like a Kaizo.
I desperately needed this vid. Couldn't think of anything to do with this power up.

These boring, lazy levels with no thought made from the player to beat the level ALWAYS end up on the popular page for no reason! This happened last update too, and it was even worse then! These levels try to be cute and add “secrets” too, and they are so bad! This is why I need to stop going to the popular page. Especially with the new trend of “refreshing,” “stress-reducing” garbage dumps of levels. (And I didn’t forget about the random Japanese that is probably half gibberish but idk)
Not going to say Japanese levels on the popular page aren't bad, but calling the language gibberish doesn't help your point? Agreed that the popular page sucks though. Finding good fun levels isn't easy...

Probably. There were a lot of flubbed lines in this one, but I wanted to make sure the video got out in time while there's still hype.
Your opinion about the name puzzle was my favorite part of the video "oh wow what do I do here? Maybe throw a boomerang into this clear pipe because it's my only option?" perfection, I agree with you. There are puzzle levels in the game of course, but these single option ones need a new name.
Finally, someone else who agrees that throwing boomerangs through pipes is kinda boring

I love this new edition and is easily one of the best smm2 course parts added. The one thing that bothers me even more is that we don’t have boomerang bros. I mean, they took the time to add the mechanics of the power up. How hard is it to do a color pallet swap with the hammer bro and give it those boomerang properties. Also can we just have all of the variants of the bros in all game styles. I really want to use fire bros and the frozen coins in a level together.

its not a puzzle its a tutorial. nice to know somebody else has the same reaction i do to this. its especially annoying when they show you what buttons to press, it feels so degrading

Edit: I identified it. It's the intro music for the "Boomerang" Block from Cartoon Network circa mid 2000's. It aired "old" Hanna Barbara cartoons like Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, and Top Cat.

10:30 THANK YOU. Those "logical thinking" levels are so overdone and shouldn't be called puzzles when there's only one path to take. Only puzzling thing about them is how they're so popular.
I dont even create mario maker levels, but your videos are just so thorough and well done that I still watch them.

10:31 i agree with you. These are not puzzles but gating mechanics. The use of something like this is limited to making sure that if you don't have the boomerang you cant progress, so while these are not puzzles, they can be the gate that forces you solve the puzzle of "how do i get the boomerang" .

Your problem with ‘puzzle’ levels is the same with me for most ‘speedrun’ levels.
Lots of the popular speed run levels are meant to make you feel like you're at risk of dying but make it really easy to just hold right and press the right buttons at the right time. They're lame and usually uninspired. Speed runs that make you think fast about what to do, make you do something creative, and have slightly more forgiving timers are usually the better ones imo

10:27 No thank god you said it, I was about to call you out if you didn't. Puzzles need to require some lateral thinking. I think the closest thing we can name them might be technique sections b/c usually the challenge is timing/movement. If you chuck a boomerang in a pipe and hit a few on/offs there's no question what was going to open the path, its just how you have to do it

how do the thrown boomerangs behave when coming out of clear pipes facing up or down? Is it the same as a spike ball, where it goes in the direction that the most recent horizontal section went?
I find the fact that boomerangs get destroyed in clear pipes submerged in lava weird as it does not enter in contact with it and Mario is completely fine.

I honestly feel the boomerang flower is better for traditional levels than the cat bell simply because it's less prone to causing cheese in levels. I also love it for some fun puzzles involving clear pipes and on off switches.

The only way to escape a boomerang is flooring it on dash blocks, but just using a blue speed conveyor belt works, its even the same speed!

Fun fact: If you throw a boomerang at a spike ball, the spike ball is able to collect coins, or at least big coins, like a thrown shell.

It isn't necessarily a zinger, but it is a just okay underwater easy car-zo. It isn't uploaded yet, but it'll go up on the server with all my other Super World courses once my Super World series is done being clear checked.

You can check out some other levels on my profile (some are kinda garbage, be warned) while I'm crafting my Super World. Some are easy, some are hard, some are actually traditional. Some people really liked my SMW airship level for some reason or another.

I noticed something about the boomerang flower.
The boomerang flower plays the wrong sound effect when it’s collected.
It’s the same sound when collecting a cat bell. Instead it should be the same sound that plays when collecting a fire flower.
