I have watched your vlogs on a daily basis ( a few to several), for a couple years now, and maybe I'm becoming in sync with the timing of your teaching for I began to use a similar technique a couple of days ago at the range. As a lower middle class self taught junior, I picked up the game "again" after a 20 year absence, and have finally learned how to correctly swing the golf club through your vlogs (still can't afford lessons). As a 60 year old mid handicapper, I have been struggling to reach long par 4's in two. Now, through this "use the ground" technique, I feel I'm finally using the strength in my legs properly, and my shots with my driver, woods, and hybrids are going longer and straighter. I'm now looking forward to facing those 400 plus yard par 4's. I'm an informational analyst by trade, and since this will probably be my only comment, I want to say that you are by far the best teaching pro and equipment reviewer on CZcams. My job is to find and tell the truth, so I greatly appreciate your honesty and your continual commitment to it, no mater if the feedback is positive or negative. I also so appreciate your nature to analyze and fine tune the golf swing to make it the most efficient possible. These passions are so refreshing in this land that lacks critical thinking. I'm off to the range to work on my irons with this new technique. Thank You!!

As with the Hip Turn video Mark, I'm sure I've seen Dan do this drill as well. You put your right heel up, you put right heel down, you pick your left heel up and you belt it out of town.

Going to try this at the TopTracer range in Winchester this afternoon in preparation for a game Sunday morning. I am playing a course I played last Tuesday for the first time, again. The problem with Tuesdays game was that I rolled into about 4-5 ditches. I just need another 5-10 yards on my driver and I will clear them. Wish me luck!!!

I have struggled for a long time “swaying/shifting” toward the target line. I usually hit the ball fairly straight, but lose distance from the shift. I tried this drill today and the first few felt REALLY strange. But after a few, it was a tremendous help! Thanks for the awesome teaching! I wish was able to come to England and have a few lessons, I relate to your teaching style better than anyone else I have seen.

Thanks for the great vids!! Watched this yesterday, took it to the driving range to practice and played a round today, using the pressure shift. Played my best round ever (87 shots on a par 72 at hcp 21.6, improved by 3.5 to hcp 18.1!)
I'll keep practicing, hoping to improve even more!

Great series, keep them coming. I really like the disclaimer you make regarding who this information and drill will benefit (and who it won't).
An idea I like to use when thinking of using the ground is that it is a change in "pressure" from one foot to the other rather than a "weight shift". The idea of "shifting my weight" onto the back foot always made me tend to sway or move away from the ball excessively (as you demonstrated) rather than getting me to simply shift pressure from one foot to the other while keeping my centre of mass relatively stable. I've found the thought of a "weight shift" causes many people to imagine a much bigger movement than should actually occur, so maybe that term should be thrown away when discussing the golf swing?

Hi Mark, I've been trying this and it has made a huge difference to the quality of my strike and has made me feel much more as though my swing is seamless through the back and downswings. I would like to ask, though, whether there are any downsides to incorporating the drill into your general swing? Are you giving up power if you don't get the whole soles of your feet on the ground, or is it just a balance/stability thing. To me the whole process feels natural and I've been hitting it as well as I ever have done. Thanks so much for this tip it is a real game changer.

I have always lifted the rear of my left foot off the ground. My downswing move starts with the left foot slamming back to the ground. For some reason, when I try to keep the foot on the ground I seem to lose power and distance.

'Ground forces' are like the 'X factor' and all the other teaching fads and fazes that come and go in golf, it's just the flavour of the month at the moment.
It's a simple fact of physics that you cannot use the ground, it has no 'force', all you are doing is pushing off the ground to different degrees, it's simply bending the knees more.
Is there anything new about getting the weight over your right foot, Old Tom Morris probably told that to Young Tom Morris back in the day.
But nowadays, there are , apparently 'FORCES FROM THE GROUND', available to us gullible Suckers out there in Golf wasteland.
Just be careful out there, folks, and don't abuse the power of the ground, it might just flip you over and you'll do yourself an injury.

      .How odd?
You're the one demo'ing a weight transfer/sequence drill, and the title is 'use the ground for longer golf shots' !!!
The ground, in this instance is only used to stand on, and change pressure points on, it's got nothing to do with the drill, you could do this standing on a table !
Then if you called it, 'use a table for longer golf shots', people would think you were winding us up.
      What's the difference?
