    Mike is incredible in explaining the "methodologies", along with Mike Austin/Mike Dunaway.
    Mike and Milo do a great job of mapping the golf swing to other sports. Kudos to you Be Better Golf for providing this treasure drove of information. Save us recreational golfers a ton of money listening to these lessons versus what our PGA professionals do (no fault of their own), putting us into pretzels while thinking we have to re-learn the golf swing.
    I took an hour lesson with Mike where 5 minutes was actual instruction and the next 55 minutes was a discussion about athletics and key concepts of matching the golf swing to other sports. Thanks to Mike M, I bought a tennis racket. One of my best lessons ever!!
    Great stuff Be Better Golf!!

    Golf buddies ask we what I'm doing different and I send them videos from here, Malaska, and Milo Lines. One of them fearfully asked if Malaska was "technical." I said he's the least "technical" instructor I've seen on CZcams. Even though he clearly has a very thorough technical knowledge, he's not worried about showing that off: he figures out how to explain the motions and feels so we can relate them to motions we've been making all our lives, like snapping a towel.

      Mike, the problem with us, or at least this, average golfers who have been playing for years is, in my opinion, we have grooved our swings and all the necessary actions into our brain. So when we stand over the ball and try to do something different our brain takes over and we do the same as ever. When I swing with no ball I can do what you suggest. I concentrate on the left hip action and I can do it. In fact I can concentrate on actions from the start of the backswing all the way through. As soon as a ball is in the way, especially on a golf course with consequences, that part of my brain that I have trained incorrectly for years kicks in and gives me what I always do. So no improvement. It’s like driving a car. I don’t think of actions. I just do it. Or walking down the stairs. I don’t think of all the complex actions I do to get to the bottom without falling. I just do it. I’ve tried all sorts of practice to ingrain a new move but as soon as I’m on the course I revert to old habits. Sometimes something works, I hit a sweet shot and it goes straight and far with no effort. However, my brain soon reverts to its comfortable old swing, my game doesn’t improve and my handicap hovers in the same area. The problem isn’t necessarily knowing what to do, it’s how to ingrain it so that it stands up on the tee.

    I'm reminded of all the talk and analyzing of Rory's hip speed and teachers trying to incorporate faster hips to students. When Rory was finally asked how he generates this incredible hip speed, he replied, I don't know, never really thought about it.......Arms and hands are boss. The body accommodates them. Are people really trying to remove the most coordinated parts of the body from a golf swing? They say you can't time them consistently, really? Think piano, guitar, surgery, etc. Have you missed your mouth while eating? Grip fork firmly, like 5/6, add supination radial deflection as you raise fork upward, while simultaneously lowering your head with just enough speed so that you don't stab the back of your mouth. We'll get into the eating setup and downswing next time. Start thinking bout all that crap and see how natural eating becomes...just saying.:)

    Mike you are the best at producing these wonderful videos that explain techniques that all can understand. I remember working with you live during the Nicklaus/Flick school days and was with NGEC. My question is why hasn't anyone built a practice area that has rolling contours like most all fairways? As an instructor wouldn't you want the ability to teach from real world lies found on any course. As we know, you rarely get a flat lie on the course. I asked Jackie and he said no one has ever requested it. Just curious on you thoughts.

    I love your videos with Mike Malaska, they have helped me improve my game a great deal. Now, my question is, Mike talks a lot about speed being generated mostly by the arms, but here he seem to say that his speed is generated by the thrust back of his left hip against the momentum of the club head. Are these two ways of generating speed or the same concept explained two different ways?

    • @Ken-jf1cm
      @Ken-jf1cm Před 3 lety +2

      Fair question...but note how he tells him at 8.06 that 'the clubhead and the hip are connected'. Mike's always been about 'opposing forces', where the lower body is the platform against which the arms and club work. He's not saying 'spin the hips out of the way'. He's saying in order for you to swing the club at maximum speed, you have to oppose that by pushing back hard against that momentum with the left leg. But if you just push your hip back and stay lazy with the arms, you'll not get much joy. Both have to happen in sync.

      There is two types of swingers
      Arms or body based with passive arms.... the fastest way to improve your swing is find out which one you are then 2nd perform little chip shots on the range
      Shots hip height backswing to hip height down swing pay Attention to the club face and direction wanna hit left finish left wanna go right finish right.... once you have control of the face... at some point your will understand "YOUR SWING" all bodies are built diffrent when you watch others you wanna mimic positions "You're body can't achieve" so hit alot of balls and work on "your" swing.... lastly if you have no consistency in practice time don't expect to jump from 100 scorecards to the 70"s without proper practice... accept where your game is and build on that

  • @GermanBullitt
    @GermanBullitt Před 3 lety +1

    The problem in golf is, the guys who can play got different feelings how to do it. You just need to try things out to find out what works for you. But in the end of the day, you need to feel it. If you dont you wont get it right. We all are different and got dominent bodyparts, lead leg or trail leg. So the feels are different. I tried Mikes feel and it didnt work out for me cause when i extend my lead leg my arms getting straight way too early. I needed a different feel or concept to add speed. Best way to find out is hit balls as hard as you possibly can and check the number with a launch monitor. try things and check the results. You will see whats adding speed and attack angle and what does not. Speed is good and important but a good negative attack angle is just as important. For driver a postiv angle of course. The best ballstrikers got both.

    The content is fantastic, but the audio is maddening. I think if you're going to shoot a video with Mike Malaska for your channel it's worth it to reserve a lesson tee where you won't be collecting someone else's voice all over your content.

    How many people get to say they held Jack Nicklaus hips?

    Boy oh boy, when you grasp this concept... it's like you've taken a journey into the land of milk and honey of golf.
    You can really start generating speed with the legs and momentum after engraining this into the muscles memory bank :D
    Hence why Mike Austin drove 500 some yards at 62 yrs of age.

      It’s why Jack Nicklaus never lost distance and was competitive on the Tour - the regular Tour, not just the Senior Tour, well into his 50s. People forget Jack was sixth in the 1998 Masters and fifth at the 1997 Memorial.

      @@johnflorio3052 He has been a pleasure to watch and learn from! Those old-videos of him teaching his way of golf, FANTASTIC! If there was one guy that made it all simplified and pure sport, it was Jack.

    1. You never tell us which iron this is or even better what loft it has. This appears to be a deliberate omission.
    2. After watching this video I went and watched all the video of Jack Nicklaus I could find on CZcams and I could not observe Jack “rocking back” in the least
    These things make me question the content of this video

      Keep looking. When Mike told that story I immediately remembered Jack doing that. Not on all shots but he definitely did it quite a bit.

      What does the loft have to do with the swing?

    Nicklaus rocked forward slightly before he took the club back.

      A trigger move. I should have asked about that. Sets the pattern in motion.
