I had both and you pick the right mercedes 1983 300td w123 was the most reliable safest car ever built impressive from engine drive train from the front to the rear end from top to bottom a true german engineering / 1987 190D once you go over 70mph the car lowers a little the stability performance on 190D was incredible I miss them both cars / and I had also 1976 240D 4 speed manual trans good car / now I don't buy mercedes any more cause I see all the issues my friends are going through with there late models are a piece of crap

So glad the 300D was #1 my dad worked for a Mercedes dealer way back. Retired from them in 1993. Always loved the 300D and 300TD along with the 500SL. As an owner of 2014 C63 coupe. Yes I love the one I own. But want to find some older one's as well. Nothing beats the 80s for Mercedes. But hey just my opinion. Just such an iconic look for them

ANY of the diesel W123 and W126 chassis’ are absolutely excellent choices. No matter the mileage or condition. Same with W126 M103 300SEs and W210 and W124 E-classes. Mercedes builds TANKS.

The W116 chassis (used for the 300SD Turbo Diesel, 280SE, and the 450 SEL, as well as the 450 SEL 6.9) -- that one is a real beauty too.
Thanks for listing the 190e even if it's #4. My 1st was a 300d. The engine got so bad I would pick up the front and tow it in gear until it started then stop, run back and put it in neutral. Once it was warmed up it started just fine.

W124, W202, W201 and of course W210 is everywhere in my country Azerbaijan. These are best options to buy (reliable and comfortable) for daily driving in here. People love those old mercs. İncluded me :), They have at least 1 million km on them no doubt, Diesels are mostly used as taxi.

I would also say the W140,sometimes and sometimes you might be able to get a W140 for a good price,also how about the W126, you might be able to pick up a car at a good price, and if it has been well kept it could last a long time

A decent W210 can be found in my neck of the rust belt for under 2K (I paid $1500 for mine and it's by no means a beater). The others...not so much. If I ever move somewhere without the intense rust issues, I'll be looking for a nice 300D.
I just traded in a 2007 Lexus GS350 with 167,400 miles for a 2000 W210 E320 with 179,000 because the Lexus was burning 2 quarts per 1,500 miles and had ignition issues. I just installed a new water pump for $800 two weeks ago. So I dumped it for yet ANOTHER Mercedes-Benz. I’ve had several. And I keep coming back to them.

W208 CLK is really reliable too,I myself wouldn't go for turbo models because it puts more stress on the engine and less reliable just go for the N/A ones :)

I would love to buy a wagon that is “newer” than the 1999 W140 I have and that is reliable without too many headaches. If I am open with the engine size and price which 3 would you recommend?
S210 is a great machine. A lot of them are 4-matic which is okay. You just have to check the front driveshaft and service it or replace it with a new one. The ujoints go bad on it and your front driveshaft will break off while driving. You need to look over the entire car and change the parts that are safety concern. But E320 model is awesome. Totally recommend it. Keep in mind it has a hydraulic rear suspension like most wagons

@@EnthusiastCarHangar You can find lots of clean S210 on west coast here. S211 are cool but they’re not as spacious as S210 and they have more problems. Their bodies are amazing though. However, it’s not my cup of tea, at least at this moment. Choose M112 engine. They’re amazing. My friend's W210 has 400k miles now. They are really great cars

I am currently looking at a w209 CLK 320, 72,000 miles dealer maintained, I have had many cars but never Mercedes but I can do a lot of my own work and these are supposed to be very reliable as well what do you think?
W210 or W208 with M112 V6 engine are good. Or choose one from the video. Classic Mercedes are the best. I've encouraged tons of people to love and take care of old school Benzes. W124 is a great car too, W126 as well
Bro I’m from Dubai. And now in secondhand market theirs a huge collection of 2000-2006 models of Benz. E240/E300/E340/E350/E55AMG/E500 S350/S500/S550/S63 models. Mostly Japan imports. One guy said he gets good fuel efficiency with E-340. Is it true that all E-class or older models of Benz get good fuel efficiency??
I cannot comment about the fuel efficiency. My life is too short to worry about that. But there are some Benzes that are really really good on fuel. You can google that and you’ll find lots of info 🙂
I love these old Mercedes , I had a w202 2 ltr and now have a C124 E320 , a proper old school car that's great to drive and own , easy to work on and maintain and just so reliable , more so than my bmw E92 335i full of computers , another great car but the computers and plastic engine parts spoil it which is why it has to go , but the Mercedes is a keeper.

The engine m112 and 113 and om 606 diesel are reliable The 726 transmission is very good.

Hey man nice video. I got a question. Im 17 an i used to be IN LOVE with the 190E (obviously especially the Evo2 but i understand thats preety much impossible to own). A lot of 190E's are for sale where i live (Cyprus) and i am thinking of buying one as my first car and i am planning to modify it (Not to the extreme just some basic handling and power mods along with some aero to make it all look better). My question is,
What should i look out for?
Does it consume a lot of fuel?
Am i going to be able to find parts easily and cheaply?
Is buying an old 190E mercedes as a first car a good idea?

Fuel consumption? Depends what engine you have and how properly tuned it is.

@@mzee5533 my friend just got a W124 with M104. It was not running. The harness was bad.. He installed a new harness and she runs very smooth. If I come home to Chicago this year, I'll make videos on it. ☺
I question the premise of the video. While I mostly agree with the reliability calls the idea of finding any of these for less than 2K is simply unrealisitic unless they are complete wrecks. At least around here. I live in Phoenix AZ.

Looking for a reliable, easy on gas Mercedes.
Reason is, I put a lot of miles on my 2000 Grand Marquis LS. Love the thing, its also a freaking tank. But it only gets 18-22 on a good day. While its plush, I always love luxo barges too. I wanted something thats just as plush as my Mercury without all the fuss of reliability. I've admired Mercedes from afar for awhile now. While I wanted to get a little MG B, I thought when its all said and done with the Mercedes. Lets say I want to get another vehicle thats just as reliable or loved. Hopefully my sister or brother can use it for their growing car too. No doubt rolling around in a Mercedes which I know is guaranteed to be safe, will be incentive for them to learn to drive.
No way in hell am I giving up my Mercury, I love that thing. Its been my dream car and I finally got it so I adore it. But I hate the idea of putting so many miles on it or dealing with the problems that come with a V8. V8s usually are time tested, especially the 4.6. But they eat gas and fight you with accessories at times. I want something small thats no fuss, people tell me to get a Benz, I dont know just yet. But this video helps me make my decision. When I buy a car, its forever, even if I am stuck driving a Merc and a Benz, so be it! The vehicle will definitely be well loved for sure.
Where are you located? Go with Classic Mercedes. But remember that your Mercury and Classic Benz are totally different cars. Classic Mercedes aren't for everybody. At this time these cars are for fans and real enthusiasts who will take care of them. They need love and care but considering how long their parts last is amazing. Some of these Classic Benzes are 40 years old and have parts that are original from 70s and 80s! I drive a 1981 300SD W126 with almost 500k miles. The car is in a poor shape but I am slowly restoring it. I drove it across USA last year! Check out my channel for videos. Nobody will ever make great cars like that. That's why tons of people around the world love these cars a lot. Mercedes W123 300D and W126 300SD are super reliable and amazing machines. Mercedes W123 240D are great too. Look into getting one of these cars. They're all diesel

@@VITOSGARAGE I have a Nissan Rogue that my mother owns that I use on and off for weekends. I would most likely rotate cars depending on what I need to do. A drive to work? Maybe the secondary. Replacing a car door on a coworkers car? Mercury it is. Though I most likely will see how I feel about the car first before making the final decision

@@VITOSGARAGE Hello, I also got a w210 1996. I don't have a garage and I know that this cars tend to rust. Can you please tell me how did you mentain your car? I recently applied antiphon below the car and fixed every rust problem, even under the carpets inside. But at door corners it tend to appear again, even after i fixed last year. Is this normal or i have to repaint the whole car at that profesional level with a zinc based paint ? Thank you for the time you'll answer my quiestion! I really love w210 model. Can you talk about this in your video ? And some tips and tricks for the doors, fenders?
@@sergiuioan6180 Yes sir. I love W210s too. My W210 is awaiting the surgery because it's quite rusty. It's been driven on salty roads in Central US for 20 years... Other than that, the my W210 is bulletproof mechanically and electrically.
The car is currently sitting at my friends house in a different state. But I am planning to come home in the summer and film some videos for sure. In the mean time I'll be filming videos about other old school Mercedes such as W123 and W126 and others.
As far as rust on W210, you have to always watch it and whenever you see it appearing, grind it off or clean it and treat it. The reason why the rust is coming back on your doors is because you didn't clean all the rust or you didn't treat it right. If the surface is very pitted, it's hard to remove the rust in those pores (holes). In that case, people usually sandblast those spots or apply zinc and then body filler, sand it, then primer, and finally paint.
Once you do that, I also recommend smearing some bearing grease on the bottom of the doors so it'll never rust again!
When front fenders get rusty, the best thing is to replace them with new ones. Paint new ones and apply grease on the backside of the fenders and all the edges too, Especially where the fender meets the bumper. Grease is like the best undercoating. It's like oil that prevents rust!
Also, make sure to wash the car very often and avoid salty roads and winters.

It depends how well you take care of the car. If you take care of the Benz, it’ll take care of you. You can’t just drive these cars and not give them love. They’re not for everybody
