In medieval combat there were 3 types of soldiers as well... Short spears, long spears, huge spears with horses. If you had to draw a sword or an axe is because you either lost your spear or it was captured by the enemy.

There are some instances of units using two handed swords and axes sure, but rain of arrows of a shield wall and spears is always more effective. Also easier to teach someone to use a spear and a shield than it is to teach to fight with a two handed axe or sword.

I hope the devs finish the game and not the playerbase using mods to be honest. I have the bad feeling changes in this game are going to take a very long time since it is one dev game.
Unfortunately you cant change the colours and signs to your family sign yet and the flag is only adjusted half to your prefered sign. But it will come :)

@daldan66 I'm at that point in my village. Militia can only equip mail armor, and only if they come from a level 3 burgage plot. They also have slots for a helmet, gambeson to wear underneath the mail, and of course their weapons. It does make sense that they can't equip plate armor, that's not something you could really afford to equip a large force with if they weren't already personally wealthy enough and it wasn't mandated that citizens have it.
It cost 25 personal wealth to equip retinue with plate but if you have plate available you can equip them with plate using 5 personal wealth and costing one plate armor material. @@daldan66

The game is amazing, i make a city like the on in kindome come deliverance, with the church inside and all the farms outside, several market places farms with barly and weed, sadly linen is bug so i cant make gamensons but heltmets and armor are good!

You choose to opt into society. It’s not something mandated by a government. And thus if a chunk of a city seek to separate from that society and form their own city they have the moral right to. The War of Independence in 1776 is the Precedent for this.

Plate armor CANNOT be used by militia. Also armor "level' bound. House lvl 2 can wear gambeson, house lvl 3 can wear chainmail.

You cant equip Miltia with plate armor only retinue, the retinue can go up to 24 not 12, and you can only build 1 garrison tower to add to it.
