- Well folks, it’s quite a time to be a Matt Groening fan, as Disenchantment Part 4 just released on Netflix, and if you HAVEN’T heard yet, Futurama was just announced to be revived for 20 episodes at Hulu. Wild times folks, wild times. But as usual, the new season of Disenchantment has some really fun little Futurama references sprinkled throughout! Now as you may know, I do one of these videos every year, but rather than just cover the new season I’m gonna recap every Futurama reference from parts 1 through 3 AS WELL, even though I covered them in my previous video. It’s just nice to have them ALL in one place, ya know? PLUS I’ll address some of the comments I got on the last video pointing out other references, and give you my take on them! So let’s get to it.

The big question I have: Will there be any Disenchantment references in the new season of Futurama? It would be fun to see the shows reference each other.
I'd like that
I really hope so 🙏🙏🙏
I'm hoping for a crossover
Yes please
@@rigby117 me too
Paradise pd crossver with brickelberry gave me hopes for a disenchantment and futurama crossover
The reference I saw in the very first episode and that has continued through the whole series is that the king's crown has that "antenna" at the front, reminiscent of Bender's antenna. I always considered it to be a nod that both characters were voiced by the same voice actor.
It's not just Zog's crown. Dreamland royalty in general have those antennas, and there's an in-universe explanation given in season 3
@@erimgard3128 yeah Maru surveillance
@@inkfae9916 No, Steamland surveillance.
If you're watching this, congrats! You're early :) Decided to stick it in the playlist even though I'm not pushing it public until tomorrow.
Haha I was so confused why it wasn't showing up in the uploads tab. Great video as always :)
How's your day?
I absolutely love your Disenchantment videos!! Keep it up!
In either chapter 6 or 7, when Elfo lies about having a girlfriend: Lucy mentions Leela when he says "one eyed woman with no parents". An other reference you could've added!
Huh, this didn't even occur to me.
nice catch!
Well, but Leela does have parents, it's revealed later in Futurama. While she did grow up an orphan, she later reconnects (and even relives her teenage years) with her parents
@@OliviaSNava which would further indicate when in her timeline Luci would have met her.
Icing on the cake. A lot of the characters are voiced by Futurama actors. Which I absolutely love. When Odval, and the Witch lady started talking for the first time I lit up and went: THATS MOM AND HER ELDEST SON!
Me too
One of the hillbillies/hicks that capture Zog and Derek and wanna feed him to the swamp monster one of them is the voice of Roberto (the crazy robot from futurama)
Also Kif! Every time Odval sighs sarcastically, I expect Zapp Brannigan to barge in lmao
I always love it when shows made by the same creator make references to that persons other respective shows! and the Futurama references in Disenchantment are definitely the best!
I thought there was a moment in season 4 where Zog says "I'm back baby" like Bender
He says it when he and Bean return home.
Zog’s mental breakdown also sounds like Bender when he becomes the evil car in the episode of Futurama The Honking
I think it was a reference in the new season of Disenchantment which u dindnt mention. In the episode where Elfo meets his mother, she gives him anchovys and mustard sauce. And Elfo says "OMG only my therapist, Pizza Delivery boy or my mother would know that". And i think thats a reference because Fry loves anchovys on pizza and was a pizza delivery boy! Dont know if it is a reference but could be! :D
definitely definitely a reference.
Good catch! Yeah i caught that too
I can't think of any other media that has mentioned anchovies like futurama/disenchantment. It's gotta be connected lol
Agreed!!
Also "my mother" could be a reference to mom. Who in that episode wanted to get her greasy mitts on those damned anchovies
I absolutely loved season 4. Just perfect, no complaints
In the first episode of the first season queen Oona tells Bean “ just leave your eggs on the nightstand and get out of there” which is very similar to what the mermaid says to fry in the episode where they visit underwater Atlanta
I think that's just a joke about amphibian/fish biology, rather than a reference.
I keep waiting for them to put a reference of Bender in the show when he went back in time so many different times and waited for the future. Just have him buried in a cave or something. It would be cool. Of course it would also confirm them being the same universe
In the final episode of season 4 Zøg says “why you little…” while mad at Derek, a nod to The Simpsons
I'm so glad Dimago changed his mind. The Futurama revival would have been incomplete without him.
Maybe Disenchamtment will set up some references for the Futurama revival
unpopular opinion: Disenchantment is my favorite Matt Groening series
same.
futurama and simpsons have gone on too long.
Yeah me too, but my god why is it taking so long to where been actually using her power
Yes it is good when series do not last too long
@@darklight6921 I don't know what kind of Crack or heroin you're smoking because this show is not better than futurama.
@@darklight6921simpsons: yes
Futurama: no
I loved the trip to the moon reference in Futurama, and I like how they brought it back in Disenchantment. Definitely a reference from lovers of film history, for lovers of film history
In Futurama S6 E19 the robot devil says he and Fry traded hands once, and it took forever to get the smell of candy corn out. In Disenchantment Part 4 Odval tell Sorcerio to clean his lab and that it smells like candy corn and Sorcerio comments that its hard to get rid of the smell. Thought that was a funny small little reference to Billy West's main characters in each show
In episode 4 of season 4, when Zog and Bean escape the dungeon and hug, Zog says I’m back baby! Obviously referencing one of benders catch phrases! Well done with the other spots tho i wouldn’t of noticed them!
In S4E2, when Elfo's mother gave him anchovies, Elfo proceeded to say that the only people who knew he loves anchovies (with mustard sauce) are his therapist, his mother or his *pizza delivery boy*, which is in my opinion clearly a reference to Fry's love towards anchovies and him being a former pizza delivery boy.
I feel you missed one in episode 2, For Whom the Pig Oinks when Bean overfills the beaker with pigs bool, Zog makes a comment, "looks like I picked the wrong day to wear sandles". I believe this is connected to the Futurama episode in season 7 The Mutants Are Revolting, when Bender bends the pipeline to bring the sewage to the surface, Sal makes almost the same comment he says, "Yucks, looks like I picked the wrong day to wear my new Crocses."
Futurama getting revived the last few times, used to get me so excited. Futurama is one of my favorites.
I hope this new season isn’t remembered as “the bad one”. Most soft reboots or continuations have lost the original spirit. This whole John DiMaggio drama is not a good sign.
he's coming back!
Did anyone notice the poster outside the freakshow in Season 4 episode 10? It says "Mystic Fortune Teller Edith" there is a sticker saying Escaped covering the face but the red box looks similar to the fortune teller in Futurama.
This one was super small, but one of the episode titles was “Faster, Princess! Kill kill!” And I think it’s a little to close to Zoidberg’s line in The Thief of Baghead where he said “Faster professer, kill kill!!” to just be considered a coincidence.
Don't know if it's a reference, but Chaz or Chazzzzz is also a character in Futurama.
He's the mayor's aide and goes out with Leela in one episode.
Soon, you will have to make a video about Disenchantment references in the Futurama Hulu revival season, since there is NO WAY they will go through the entire season without make at least ONE reference to it.
Great video Johnny, but I think you missed one! In the episode"The Goo-bye girl" there's another reference in the comic library. I'll post the answer below if you want to find it for yourself.
One of the comics on the table has Horrible Gelatinous blob on the cover. Cheers!
Never seen your previous videos and am a HUGE fan of futurama, clicked this video instantly when I seen it on my recommended, great video ! 👍
Well I've got LOTS of Futurama vids for ya to check out haha
Jerry "aiming where they're going to be" reminds me of one from an episode we watched yesterday - where he throws a rock at Cloyd as they run away from the castle.
I thought it was a reference to GOT lol
@@beni2076 😂
In the second episode of season 4 Elfo's orc mother gave him his favorite food anchovies with mustard and Elfo says "only my therapist, my pizza delivery boy and my mother know that". This could be a reference to the fact that Fry is a pizza delivery boy and his favorite pizza topping is anchovies
2:11 could Jerry trying to smash the bugs with a hammer actually be a *Game of Thrones* reference (to cousin Orson smashing the beetles)?
So not really a reference but I think it's pretty cool how zogg and his older brother have the same hair colour as fry and his older brother and have similar placements In there family
Definetly got fry and yancy vibes
Loved this video love futurama and disenchanted is a great series love to see the little connections
Literally just finished watching your review of part 4
Great video! Love both shows ❤
pendergast's head is actually brought back to life near the finally and it was an amazing hilarious reference! 😂
I LOVE how they threw in Futurama Refences in Disenchantment LOVED Both Shows
So i just realized that even tho ive seen most of this channels videos I wasnt not subscribed my bad. Love the content. Love the commentary. Love this channel.
Thanks for finally taking the plunge :)
love this so much i love both shows
Love this show, great work on the video
I think both Hulu and DiMaggio himself understand that there is no Futurama without Bender, and there is no Bender without DiMaggio. Simply put, either he's going to be in it, or Hulu wont make the series (and if they do, it'll probably fail really hard--the fan loyalty for the show doesn't extend that far, most people will basically boycott it)
he's going to be in it
@@One-ur7wn lmao i know, this was over a month ago
@@quinnmarchese6313 just telling you :/
Worth it for the news. Have an awesome day 😀
Wow, I didn’t even notice the airship in the first episode. Imma go rewatch it and see if I can spot it.
The puppet saying "ta daaaa" before expecting parasites
Wow people really be detached from "A Trip To The Moon" despite it's importance in film. It was the first feature film in colour and it was done by his wife and him painting every single frame by hand with water colours. Though a feature length movie then was 14 minutes, still was way ahead of it's time for 1902. Not to mention the special effects and everything. It's wild that film today was built off that yet now references to it are seen as references to other things referencing it lol
One that you might have missed was season 5 episode 11 when they get a tax rebate and Amy get the talking devil tattoo. Same devil who Bean was supposed to marry?? Let me know what you think
Oh wow they are VERY similar! Good call!
I'm glad I watched this. I never noticed those references in part4
Im so glad others would look out for these as well, I’d watch the season twice to find all I could cause I thought it was funny or cool
7:29 A sign says "Replace your child" which reminds me of "Sleep, little dumpling. I have replaced your mother."
Futurama’s new season just shared the Easter egg by doing a single frame of Disenchantment while some characters were going through time in the Time Machine.
Perhaps when futurama comes back it will have disenchantment references lol
I kinda wish we get to see medieval expies of the planet express crew like how amphibia had frog counterparts to grunkle stan and soos show up for one episode.
8:42 in this shot directly to the left of the table is a bookshelf where a book can be seen with Benders arm sticking out. This videos resolution makes it nearly impossible to see but it’s there.
I wonder if there will be corresponding references to Disenchantment in the new Futurama reboot
In the final episodes, when Bean is having nightmares about the Trogs, Elves, and Seatrogs, I noticed in the crowd of swimming elves and seatrogs there was one with a striking resemblance to Prof. Farnsworth! If someone could find me that scene I could point it out! :D
I feel like I found a secret >:)
In either the first or second episode of part 4, one of the people on the clouds in heaven suspiciously looks like Enos Fry
I noticed the same thing, definitely was him
I might be wrong about what episode it's in but i think its in part 4 episode 3 that king zog said I'm back baby.
There's also a "We're back, baby!" from Zog to Bean in one of the episodes. Don't remember which one though... I think when they get back to Dreamland right before sharing the throne. ;-)
Kinda miss Futurama. That show was great
It’s coming back next year
Good News everyone we're back
disenchantment. now there is something to get excited about.
King zog is my favorite character simply because he's voiced by the man who voices bender.
We noticed a few in the newest season! One of the decapitated heads on the bridge as Bean and crew return to Dreamland appears to be Fry. His hair is a little messed up, but the face is perfect. The other is in heaven, where Fry's "grandpa" Enis floats by on one of the clouds.
Think you may have missed the owl reference in the toy shop with the Bender doll and Pazuzu doll. All the best.
Mate, I'm pretty sure Desenchantment is in an even further future from Futurama. It makes so much sense
It has absolutely no bearing on the story and doesn't make sense from a world standpoint
this is so cool
Based off the "remnants" of futurama being in the show, particularly the giraffe king that took place after futurama but is deceased in disenchantment (whether the same giraffe or not, giraffe kings didn't happen til long after futurama, but to be mounted on the wall would have been defeated by the time disenchantment came) what if disenchantment is part of the future future. If they had planned disenchantment when they did the episode with the crew traveling through time and then restarting and traveling through again, would they have put references in the far future scenes? Or maybe disenchantment didn't happen in the first run through of time, but in the second run (when they restarted from the big bang and went back to their point in time) what if disenchantment's plot happens on that second go through time? If that makes any sense
2:33 I don't know if this was on purpose, but that timing for the "little nod" was impeccable. If that was intentional, that's a nice little editing joke.
I miss Disenchantment. I don't have Netflix anymore. I know I saw 2 seasons... It doesn't stop me from watching "spoilers".
I'm so excited about more Futurama.
✌🏻😎
While probably not a reference, something about the crown also gives me a futurama vibe with the antennae piece
I think it's a cool idea of these three shows being in the same universe 😎
I just realized in the Futurama revival they can include references to Disenchantment
there was another cameo of the disenchantment in the latest Futurama season which could further reprove the connection
Check my latest video ;)
this show was great. very funny. i saw all the things mentioned. i remember saying same thing when bean opened the drawer, hey its full of different lengths of wire. :D
such great shows
Great video! Is there any chance you'll ever cover Moral Orel? The third season is among the most well written tv I've ever seen.
Man you are fast😅 I’m just surprised futurama is returning s as bd you’ve coved Disenchantment part 4 so fast…I can’t keep up
Haha sometimes stuff comes at ya fast! It made sense for me to try and do this video while the Futurama news was fresh.
5:16 freeze frame, just to the right of elfo, the bag for the doomsday device from when the scammers took the earth
I hope we get a part 5 omg. When I got to the end of part 4 I was so sad because of the cliffhanger..
What I like about Enchantment being a work by Groening is that there are technically SImpsons references in the show as well as Futurama ones. At the end of your video @ 9:30 there is a person piloting a bike copter that slightly resembles The Simpsons character, Troy Mclure, when he supposedly directed and starred in:
"The Contrabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel".
This was kinda a fun extra near the end of "A Fish Called Selma" the nineteenth episode of season 7.
Now of course this could just be mere quinkydiink since its Steam Punk/power land and...of course there would be SOMEBODY kinda looking like that operaitng SOME kinda contraption like they are...But it still tickles me funny.
I'm sure someone else has mentioned this but in the very first episode you can see an owl with three eyes, just like Blinky. I guess it's actually a Simpsons reference but still cool to see
Zog says “I’m back baby.” When he rescues Bean from the Dungeon of Dreamland.
In the episode “Goon Baby Goon”, Zøg used another bender reference when he said” I’m back, baby”
You got the one I found I showed it on my channel
Bite my shiny metal axe🤣🤣🤣 best line ever
I forget the chapter but I think someone tells Bean Farnsworth blvd is in the "transportation district" which sounds like another nod to Farnsworth owning a shipping company.
Futurama isn't a stranger to parallel universes, so you never know.
I’m probably over analyzing here but I think the antenna on zogs crown might be a reference to benders antenna, also the ship bean passes at 8:26 is the same ship her and Elfo used to escape steam land
I was thinking they were in the same universe. Like Disenchantment was the real past, before Fry. Now this has me wondering if this is a time between Fry's original time and the time of the future where he meets everyone. If that makes sense idk exact years.
The boot bean looses in the ocean is the same boot, or more so a weird coincidence to the boot Leala fishes out with her harpoon
I noticed a Futurama reference in goon baby goon when one of the dreamland prisoners says “that makes me think, and that makes me angry.” This could be a reference The devils hands are idle playthings when robot devil says “that makes me angry!”after literally saying how he doesn’t like when people just say how they feel
No mention of the OWLS? In the scene you clipped in about the spooky ventriloquist shop, it starts with an owl in the background. With the comic book scene there is OWL ORGY, suggesting the owl infestation of New New York. There are many more owls, but those are two of the best ones that jump out and hits you in the dark matter.
That’s true both shows do have a lot of owls, I guess owls just like, fit a medieval world kinda well so I didn’t think much of it haha
I need part 5!!!
Forgive me if this is already posted, ansni can't recall the episode. But there is one where they say 'I don't feel like bean' 'I don't feel like elfo' and they melt into Fry and Leela if I recall.
This is kind of unrelated, but does anyone else feel weird about how Mora kind of looks like Marge, but isn't at all lol
I could be mistaken but in the first episode of season 4 when the camera pans over some of the angels in heaven it looks like Fry’s supposed grandfather is on a cloud all by himself.
I took this as a simple case of the animation styles being the same but it might be! Will include next year
Can’t wait for the Freckles video!
Been doing a lot of rewatching and speculating for the video! But also working on another big video, hoping to have Freckles done this weekend
@@Johnny2Cellos that’s awesome! Disenchantment is by far my favorite show. Obviously Futurama is a classic and I always loved it more than the Simpsons, but Futurama is about the future, so it’s all mostly speculation whereas Disenchantment is a glimpse in to the past and since Matt Groening is known for his predictions in the Simpsons I always wonder if Disenchantment is giving clues in to the past! Haha I’m sorry, that was a rant, but you replied so quickly and I don’t have anyone to talk to about this stuff LOL
I'm waiting for S5 so much
hi did i just spot the lawyer rooster from futurama in at 5.56 in a frame on the wall?
the bender doll in the shop is also reference to the owl in the Clash Of Titans movie if you look close enuff to the feathers on it.
7:55 i knew It wasn't a case 😂
