    I don't like the AMG One, but it didn't break down or crash. That mid lap thing was it stopping, going into Strat 2 mode (race mode) in front of everyone and then carrying on. It ran all weekend without incident, it just wasn't impressive at any point.

Aston Martin did something they'd never done and no one had ever thought possible, they accepted possible failure and very nearly did fail, but they pulled it off and built something beyond imagination. Did they set high expectations yes, but they also met if not surpassed them. Also, and once again no offence, but if anything the Aston is gonna be a special track car.

    Hypercar/GTP Cars can be LMDh's (which are built on a LMP2-spec chassis from Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic or Oreca), so those cars will be cheaper to build (and buy for private teams). The Porsche 963 is a LMDh's which uses a Multimatic chassis, and they'll have a factory team called Porsche-Penske Motorsport, and privateer teams such as JOTA. Cars such as the Peugeot 9X8, Ferrari Hypercar or Toyota are LMH's and are completely build by themselves. If I made a mistake, please correct me, but as a huge WEC/Sportscar fan, I can't wait for this new era of racing!

    I am working on the carbon reduction programme for a FTSE 100 company and have been driving an EV for 6 1/2 years, so I’m very personally invested in reducing carbon and combatting climate change.
    However whilst I believe EV’s (or at least moving away from fossil fuels) are part of the answer, the fact is that vehicles contribute a small percentage of emissions. There are far higher priorities, in particular green construction techniques, that would have a far bigger impact. I’m confused about why EV’s have so much of the government focus compared to construction techniques, manufacturing techniques etc.

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun Před 2 lety

      Because it's a doable far bigger functional societal benefit with impacts beyond just carbon emissions. Most simple one being Air Quality in your local area. It seems lots of people on both side here are wrongly fixated on CO2 GHG as the only reason for BEVs.

    Just as a reference point for the goodwood times:
    Häkkinen in Monaco in 98 got pole in 1.19.8
    Leclerc in Monaco in 21 got pole in 1.10.3
    So there's a good chance that a modern F1 car would beat the record if they drove it flat out. You would probably want the RB from the end of last year for the fastest but it should win.
    You can't compare the silverstone times as the layout has changed between 98 and 21 but from 2013 to 2021 the gap in pace from Chilton to Hamilton (pole in 21) was also very large. Not really the best comparison though as silverstone tests very different things to a hill climb.

    Love the podcast but you 2 don’t half bash electric cars. £1300 for the Tesla is stupid and not realistic. It’s the most expensive you’ve heard so your telling people about it. I’ve got the same car and it costs me around £800 all in per month. That’s for 25k miles a year.

This included Formula One cars right the way down to classic Alfa Romeo‘s, light weight E-type jags and so on. They are now based in Petersfield in Hampshire which is only a stones throw away from Goodwood.

    I think Tony forgot the main reason the industry is trying to move away from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It's not because the ICE is broken, it's because oil is not infinite and because ICE are one of the biggest contributors to climate change. Creating synthetic fuel might address the oil shortage, but not the burnt by-product (ie. exhaust pollutant) from it.

    • @africanotomotiv
      @africanotomotiv Před 2 lety

      Statistically speaking, ICE are not "one of the biggest contributors to climate change".
      Not by some measure.
      It's roughly 10% (globally) or there about.
      The reasons are political more than anything else (personal opinion).

    I don’t think in terms of charging speeds and range EVs will advance that much now. I think batteries will get smaller and lighter but there is no need to target a 300 mile range as this will work for almost everyone. The work that needs to be done is on infrastructure, not the vehicles. (I think this is shown by Tesla where as you said, the main attraction over other brands is the Supercharger network.)
    I also think think that EVs will work for the vast majority of people the vast majority of the time. If you think about all the ‘A to B’ cars that are on the roads like Jukes, RAV4s, Corsas etc then these vehicles typically are not going to be travelling long distances so would have no issue being electrified.
    However, I think trying to make *everything* electric is wrong. I completely agree that eFuel is where we should be looking for long distance travel and high performance vehicles. Whilst electric supercars and hypercars are impressive, they’re missing so much in comparison to their ICE equivalents, therefore developing sustainable fuels for these is definitely the route we should be taking.
    In the end I’d like to see us reach a point where the vast majority of cars are electric because this works for most people, then we have some PHEVs for the likes of Tony doing long distance every day, then we have ‘drivers’ cars which are still ICE. This, to me, is much more achievable than making everything electric and much more exciting than an EV-only future, whilst still being far more sustainable than the situation we’re in now.

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun Před 2 lety

      "EV-only future" is not possible anytime soon, soo stop fear mongering that. It's going take a few decades just to get a majority of utilitarian vehicles to be BEVs. This false concept that BEVs are going to replace everything soon is just silly add on top the supply chain problems. I think BEVs will naturally become the vast majority of transportation appliances and still alot left over due to supply limitations.

    • @DannyJ1999
      @DannyJ1999 Před 2 lety

      @@Neojhun Didn’t think I was fear-mongering anything, we’re actually in agreement that the future is not 100% electric. However, as far as I know the UK legislation that was referenced applies to passenger vehicles, not ‘utilitarian’ vehicles. Also, the supply chain limitations you reference concern all vehicles, not just BEVs, it’s just that demand for BEVs is understandably outstripping supply.

    Guys, just give up, Electric is coming and there is not going to be a reversal, even with synthetic fuels. Off course they are trying to extend the combustion engine, imagine how much they have invested in this ... the infra issues will be solved over time, but the fight has been fought eventually electric will be the standard in 25 years and our combustion cars and bikes will be our hobby and passion projects for the weekend. I love cars, I love bikes and I love electric cars, ... try to be positive, try more electric cars and think of solutions in stead of finding problems everywhere.
    The grid can handle a lot, it is adaptable but requires changes and optimisation ....

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun Před 2 lety

      Not realy a case of Infra being solved soon. People do not understand how slow this process of Limit Manufacturing Supply actually is. It will take 3 Decades just build adequate amount of BEVs and charging infrastructure. During that time the Electric Grid will adapt slow. It's like the people who dislike BEVs also think it will all be replaced over night.

    Red Bull Powertrains department is already working on their 2026 engine, with many personal they poached around the F1 industry. Porsche is likely only going to badge that engine, pay for it's development while Red Bull Powertrains is building it. At the most, they will co-develop that engine. Audi however wants to do a full works engine program, there is no way VAG is going to pay for two works programs. Honda is currently building Red Bulls & Alpha Tauri's engines under the HRC banner until the end of 2025. Though Honda has signaled they are looking to get back officially into F1, so there isn't anything solid in stone yet with any of these plans.

      At this point, why as Porsche would you get involved at all? Put your badge on an engine you didn't even build, just to get your name into F1? As one of the most capable car manufacturers in the world? Isn't that below the brand? What if the engine sucks, it will have their name on it.
