"From the Vault" - 1958 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop

- Finally, Goldtop day, and today's 1958 Gibson Les Paul is an incredible instrument with a really cool history! Not only is this one of the best sounding and best playing guitars we've had from the era, but it came to us from Paul Reed Smith himself! This is an early PAF model, just before Gibson started up the sunburst models that are so highly regarded. This one has also been on tour with legend Eric Johnson, and you'll understand why when Aaron Hiebert dives in headfirst with a Matchless King Cobra amp!

Music: The Hollers "Zeb" (Instrumental) - Hudba
This is the best LP standard i have heard. The clarity at volume and pushed is superb and when played sweet it is sweet.
Man i wanna get a freaking goldtop so freaking bad, i like them better than bursts
me too
Goldtop till the day i die
Yea, I know - I feel guilty, too - like I'm supposed to like bursts more. But goldtops just look great, what with the crisp contrast with the white binding and then the natural backs...mwah! They just look good.
Call the Chinese, the made me a gold top for 200 bucks and it is on par with any Gibson I or my friends own.
@@TempoDrift1480 Nah man I respect the brand too much to get a cheap copy, I'd rather wait 'til I can afford a proper one.
Thanks for sharing that great guitar and all the others with us. Great demo, great video
Ive never watched one of your videos but the production quality is just top notch. Oh yeah and stunning guitar!
Damn that amp has got some bite & spank to it.
Indeed, but most of that is the old paf in the gold top.
I had the honor of playing this beauty a few years back when it was in a shop here in Michigan! ⚡⚡
Dude the matchless amp is insane. Every guitar you guys run through it sounds unbelievable
I really wish I could afford a Matchless head and cab.
@@robertemerson1087 same bruh
Killer demo, iconic to say the least.....
Some of the best playing I've heard from Aaron yet! Phenomenal demo of a truly sweet '58!
Loving the Magnum PI look Jay! 😎👍
That sounds phenomenal
I love the PRS bit. Saw him visiting a local shop years ago.
Goldy.
Wow!!!!
Wonderful clarity! Not flubbery at all.
everything is just awesome
Wonderful sounding guitar! That player though 👌👍👏
Y’all should do some side by side sound comparisons with re-issues.
That matchless amp stole it for me , god daam that sounds good 👌
I love when they go green 💚
Those pickups GAWD DAMN
Sounds great on the iPad... my god, it must be sensational in the room! Can’t wait until this virus ‘just disappears’ so we can travel again and I can check out some bucket list stores and players in the states.
Nothing like playing a great guitar hearing the sounds and feeling all the vibrations from a big ass, clean amp.
That thing sounds epic 😳
Damn, that is a next-level Les Paul..
Wow, I'm pretty I sure Eric play this guitar on the Ah Via Musicom reunion tour. Sounds amazing
MAYBE THE BEST EXAMPLE OF ANY VINTAGE LES PAUL IVE EVER HEARD....SHES SPECIAL!
Love the guitar but DAMN that amp sounds GREAT !!!
That was wild
If I played guitar I'd definitely want one !!!
What is it about these 57/58 Goldtops?
Theres something in the tone, and it distinguishes them from later 59/60 bursts.. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's there all the same, and it's unique to Goldtops..
Damn sounds great. Whats the first riff he plays ?
6:36 B.C. - Man discovers Rhiannon
Around 5:15 what song is that again ? Now it's driving me crazy I can't remember where it's from
He starts off straight with a Joe Bonamassa tune, awesome!
I was very surprised to see the serial number is one off of mine. I own 8 3310. My Les Paul is not a gold top though, it is a burst with an off center seam. I don’t know if it was refinished to a burst, but it is what it is. The original receipt was in the case and it was purchased in Chicago in Aug 1959. It does have all original hardware, but one tone and one volume pot do not work anymore. I just can’t bring myself to replace them. I bought it from a relative of Chet Atkins, who thought it was a 60’s model.
Isn’t it accepted wisdom that all off-centre bursts are refinishes? Whatever - you have a unique and no doubt wonderful guitar! Congratulations.
Yeah it's an old gold top.
✔️
All the faults in this guitar are forgivable except one: I don't own it.
His left hand makes the "money" motion every time he speaks about the value. You can tell he's a guitar nerd but also, a very wealthy business man.
fleetwood mac on 6:00 ish, anyone?? damn that combo sings....
The amp really didn't do it for me, I'd love to hear through a '63 Deluxe or old Vox, it sounded very modern and constrained to my eras.
To each their own…. I really love it…
I find these from the vault demos so pornographic!! Such beauties, and through those Matchless... man! In the room that sound must be an out of body experience ha
Aaron must have quite the prescription for anti-depressants .... after playing these gems then going home and plugging his Squier affinity into a stage 15 amp :/
Do the poles in the pickups ever demagnetize in old guitars?
The magnets can weaken, or degauss. Known to happen in some 70s T Tops.
@@lowqualityguitarvideosCheers.
Does being owned by PRS means they opened up this thing, even unwound the pickups too see n replicate them??
not likely, cuz if he did ,his stuff would ve sounded better🤔(jk
Jerry Ye 👍🤣
Goldtop till the day i die
How much did this sell for?
What's the red jag in the back I want that one
It's a jazzmaster :)
@@theyoutubegeek7493 thanks for the corection.the goldtop is amazing also .don y I don't mention that in my coment.probly cause I know it unubtanable.one day I'd love to have a guitar with mojo.i adore guitars that are best up or so called reliced. I'm hoping to get lucky someday
Only 150 grand? I'm assuming free shipping, right?
Umm actually probably not, guitars like this get hired by a professional courier company, not UPS lmao. Ive seen $5000 shipping on guitars and amps in this price range.
Wow this guitar stands out among 50s standards.. im shocked Paul let it go!!
How much for the les paul
This one sound so good like smooth talking lady
For the price of 1 Beverly Hills home, you can too own this beautiful guitar.
I’ll take the home and a used reissue any time of day
150k would buy you a closet in Beverly Hills lmao.
Come to Lukas baby
came here to say vintage guitars have more room reverb to it, but no... it actually also has less low end
Now that's the real holy grail lp. Just take that pickguard off.
keep the guard on with a goldtop.
Still cant sell that amp huh?
It's a really great amp and I'd love to have it, maybe not for nearly 4K. But I like them picking this same amp for this series of Les Paul's, I don't think it's to particularly move this amp asap.
@@nilsx3020 I own vintage amps. Marshalls, Fenders and some obscure ones. A vintage Vox AC10 would be perfect for these guitars.
@@electricgypsyblues4761 I'd say a vintage Bluesbreaker or Vox would sound great, for sure. A grainy old tweed Deluxe as well...
I wonder if these are old videos. The price tag in the video shows 135K, the website 150K....
@@nilsx3020 your def right about those amps and you may be on to something
Man I always wanted to like Matchless.. but every time it sounds strangely thin in the midrange, at least would be too bright with a tele. That LP would sing with an old tweed fender or vox
Gimme a Goldy Any day !
Nothing wrong with that eh!
me la regala porfa
How much is it? $$$$$$$
everybody should buy a new gibson or fender on the day they're born, and only touch it to sell it when they're 65.
The ONLY thing that would make this guitar cooler would be if it was all gold
Just now seeing this. Is the guitar still available?
Oh, okay $135,000USD...
Old mate drove it like he stole it.
only person that can buy it iz someone that already has about 7 or 800 guitars.
I have 7 electrics and I can't buy it. Sigh... 😂😩
@@nilsx3020 i have 4 less than you and i cant make cents of them price's
Surprised Joe B. Hasn't bought it,yet.
Man that guitar sings like a bird.everyday I get older I can desern good tone more and more.geting old
Rick Nielsen owned all of these, I thought.
The amplifier has too muchhhhhhhh to say.... If you like the sound then you like the amplifier... More than the Lp
To bad these guitars aren't even an option for most musicians. I would buy used instead of giving Gibson my money.
If God plays guitar I imagine that itll sound just like that!!!🤘😎🤙🇺🇸
Needs more cowbell.jst wanted to say it
Ok so my birthday is coming up in January if anyone is trying to figure out what to get me 🥂
I’ll give ya $20
Jim Carrey's cooler older brother
Those prices are just ridiculous... People wants to relive the old days and thinks that guitar gonna bring them back there or makes them play better.... Just buy a good guitar and play that what your idols used to do at that time, they didn't spend fortune on gear but they knew for sure how to make a guitar sing...
Great point. People (usually novice players) try to play the same guitar that their heroes played. Like that's going to instantly give your their skill. oH buT jImMy pAgE pLayEd a lES pA-." Just because Page played a LP, don't you gonna be as good as Page.
No one knows how to control treble
Sounds like my Bare Knuckle Epiphone! Sorry but it does!
Lol, stop trying to compare your Epiphone to this guitar based on a highly compressed CZcams video. If you’re ever lucky enough to play one of these in person you’ll understand why I say that.
@@robertemerson1087 Seriously, people always say this shit. I've played 4 bursts, 2 high quality replicas, and a bunch of Japanese LP's (Tokai, Greco, etc) - and obviously countless Epiphones, modern Gibsons, and boutique knockoffs. The only thing that comes even close to the real thing or the super high-end replicas (which are also 5 figures now) is the early MIJ stuff.
@@TheBarroomHero321 People who say this shit don't know what good is.
PRS guitars are too perfect imo people are not so neither should guitars be
Sounds harsh to me and a very average sounding Les Paul.
Sounds a bit harsh.
It sounds mean.
