@@shervintajik4245The Tiger 1 was prone to gear box failure, especially when on an incline. When this happened, crews would use another Tiger 1 to tow the failed tank breaking their own gearbox in the process. This happened so often that Hitler issued ‘the tiger order’ forbidding the practice. Field repairs ranged from difficult to impossible. Repairs to the suspension would require the removal of at least 5-6 of the interleaved wheels and a gearbox change could only be done in a repair shop with heavy lifting equipment. Only 1,347 Tiger 1s were built and only 490 Tiger 2s., as they were so expensive and time consuming to build. Contrast that with the Sherman. To fix a suspension unit you unbolt the old one and bolt on a new one. You don’t even have to remove the track. A Sherman multi bank engine could be swapped out in the field in 2 hours. Replacement of a Sherman gearbox was similarly quick and easy. Sherman’s we’re relatively cheap and easy to build and between 1942 and 1946, 49,324 were produced.
