    as a INDIAN am feeling so proud, how much our food is being loved by others also seeing her eat masala dosa that too with hands showed how much she respects our culture.....dosa is literally my everyday breakfast tho....there are so many kinds of dosa and so many side dishes to go with it. I hope she gets to taste more of them and more of other Indian foods. btw the white sauce is coconut chutney, next time try with idili and try more South Indian Thali...I highly recommend it. its all in one plate of food

      As a Filipino, Masala Dosa is one of the best Indian breakfast ever invented. The chutney. The sambar. Then finish it off with Chai Karak. That's heaven. 🤤

    I lived in Singapore and still come back to visit 3-4x a year. This country is the true definition of a melting pot. Their culture (and food!) is truly unique and basically an amalgamation of Asia in one spot. You definitely have to come back and explore, Tina! So glad that you and the crew love Singapore 💕

    The white sauce you ate with the masala dosa was either peanut chutney or coconut chutney sometimes a mix of both. The puri is basically made from wheat flour or all purpose flour and is turned into a dough that you separate into portions and press or roll the dough into a thin sheet of dough that you place in burning hot oil.

    as an overseas singaporean, i watched this while eating my lunch at my desk haha. so many memories of eating at maxwell before and after a night out for supper. one thing - you referred to indo a few times, the people and food. but malay, not indo-malay, and it is nyonya food that you ate. the laksa you find in singapore is very different to that in indonesia. :) glad you enjoyed, im living my homesickness through this!

    That white sauce is made of coconut/coconut milk. Also, Chai means tea, it came from the word Cha which also means Tea. So, when people say Chai Tea, they are actually saying Tea Tea 😁

    Tina, Kuih/Kueh is a snack or dessert in Malay. That peanut pancake you ate is called Apam Balik. In Singapore, you get mainly the Chinese ethnicity making these in their version and they call them something else. In Malaysia where I believe Apam Balik originated from, it's a little bit different. The original apam balik has nuts butter and creamy sweet corn filling inside.
    Also Otah is also a chinese version of the original Malay Otak Otak.
    The wonderful thing about Singapore is that since it's a melting pot of the 3 main ethnic groups, you will find each group adapting each other's yummy foods and flavours to make their own unique version and that is so cool. 😊

    a little fun fact, there's actually no dish in India just called as "curry"! the British just keep that as a cohesive name for Indian dishes because they didn't bother learning the actual names for them :) every dish has a different name, all across india, and while a small number of them do have the word 'curry' in them, they're all very different!

    The serving sizes and the prices are insane compared to here in Sydney, particularly as our currency is almost on parity with SGD. That $4 mee goreng looked so delicious and I would pay $17 for that in Sydney and it wouldn’t be as good 😫. I will definitely visit Singapore ❤

    I tried my first butter coffee over there and I was surprised. It was surprisingly good! Butter enrich the coffee with this dairy flavour which was amazing! This combi is an old one, not many ppl know, only the older generation knows (I’m not old😂). So glad you tried it!

      singapore is the other way round as compared to Japan where Naan is more common ( from what i have seen travelling there ) we have more Briyani mutton or chicken. also we have Roti Prata which i guess is similar to naan that is way more common

    🔼The white sauce you ate with dosa is actually a coconut chutney . Made by grinding coconut ,green chilli , salt (sometimes peanut too)etc, later tempered with mustard in coconut oil . Just a mature coconut flush you have eaten got grinded and made into that flavour ful sauce 💖.
    🔼The lendil dal curry is called "sambaar "

    26:19 - I don't think he served you what you would call "Chai Tea". He served you "Teh hot" which has a very specific meaning in Singaporean and Malaysian food lingo. Its regular Tea with Condensed milk.

      No ???? As a person born and raised in India, that is very much Chai .
      And a very authentic one I have to say, Even the cup resembles the cup we commonly see in Indian households.
      That Chai resembles the Chai I drink at home.

      @@sonakshiawasthi as a born and bred Malaysian with incredibly close ties to hawker culture in Singapore. I can tell you that "Teh bing/hot" has a distinct meaning in our cultural sphere and is nothing alike your Indian Chai which I believe has ginger and other spices in it, which is not Teh Bing/hot.

      We say that to foreigners coz most of us don't believe they know the meaning of Chai. Chai means tea, so he's just asking her will she like some hot tea....and that looks exactly like Chai....even the froth.
      It's authentic just trust me.
      And there are many variations of Chai, not every Chai is supposed to have spices, "adarak chai" has ginger, "Masala Chai" has spices, "Elaichi chai" has cardamom, this is a regular everyday kind of Chai so it's just water, milk, tea leaves, sugar, boiled and juggled really nicely to give it that classic froth.

    Hi, Tina! This was a really superb Singapore hawker center video. I am an American living in Hawaii, and Singapore happens to be one of my two favorite foreign countries, the other being Taiwan, where I lived for 12 years and into which I married. You managed to cover two of my favorites that are also daily household items in Taiwan - century egg congee and peanut butter kuei. You have fantastic taste! I will travel to Singapore within the next year and will certain visit some of the stalls you introduced in this video, esp. the congee stall and the mee goreng stall. Excellent production, and I look forward to viewing some of your other videos!

    Wow this was so cool to watch as a singaporean and the foods u ate were really authentic!! Great job following the locals hehe and its always so interesting to see peoples perspective on singapore and it was kinda funny when tina said that sg was kinda like east meets west but the places she went to were literally the LEAST western places in singapore 🤭 im glad you enjoyed and gave such positive and genuine comments on the food hope you come again doobie❤
    Also a little pronunciation tip:
    Masala isnt pronounced as mursalar, its pronounced as "mah-sah-lah"
    Tekka isnt pronounced as "teck-kah" is more pronounced as "tehhh-ka" like drag out the ehhh a little
    Kueh isnt pronounced as 2 syllables like "koo-eh", its pronounced as 1 syllable like how u would think quay would be pronounced(but in singapore if you see quay its pronounced as "key" jjdjsjdks but thats another story for another day)
    And we pronounce lychee as "lai-chee" it always shocks me whenever i hear people pronounce it as "litchi"
    I hope this doesnt come across as a condescending way but just a way to let people who are unsure of how to pronounce them if they ever come to singapore ❤

    Hey regarding the dosa, the daal is called sambar, the white chutney is coconut chutney, and the red chutney is probably either tomato or peanut chutney. The potato mixture doesn’t have garam masala but it’s the South Indian mixture of spices. Garam masala is a mixture of North Indian spices. I’m glad you liked it! Indian food is so extremely diverse and you would have so much to try and content to share! Also, I love Singapore too!

    I visited Singapore in 2018, but I was with my elderly parents and we mainly did tours and walking and never made it to any of the food hawker centers. I would love to go back one day and really immerse myself in the food culture.

    This is hands down the best food review done by any one about Singapore. It helped that you actually understood the culture. Forget Mark Weins wtc etc. This one tops all the others out there trying to explain Singapore ( of Course Bourdain is an execption)
